Kanuka Terrace - Luxury Strawbale House

Wake up with a Kanuka Terrace Breakfast Hamper to prepare yourself a delicious breakfast on your first morning. Located 10 km north from the Kaikoura township, this architecturally designed luxury house has been built in a peaceful rural environment, surrounded by native kanuka trees with impressive mountain views.

In less than 5 minutes driving, you can find yourself at the best surf spots in Kaikoura or bike ride to a well maintained track that follows the Hapuku river to the ocean (20 min) and continues to Mount Fyffe (1h) (there is a possibility to hire bikes directly with us - on request). In the heat of summer, if you feel like having a refreshing swim, take a 10 minute walk to the Hapuku river swimming hole.

Perfect for families, children, friends and functions, up to 7 guests can sleep comfortably. Let’s discover our two large bedrooms and a modern bathroom upstairs, as well as a master bedroom with en-suite downstairs. An additional single bedroom is perfect for a child. There is the possibility to add an extra single mattress to host 8 guests (on request). A calm and restful sleep is guaranteed in our comfortable beds with linen bedding.

Treat yourself during your stay and ask our experienced chef to set the table and cook an amazing dinner for you. (details on request and according to availability)
If you wish to make this experience truly unforgettable, enjoy a helicopter flight from our paddock to the top of Mount Fyffe in luxury with a homemade hamper for a romantic occasion.

Unbelievable beauty and comfort

This was an unbelievable property with beauty and comfort. We lovingly called it the farm, as fresh eggs were left for us, fire wood was available to burn in a heated fireplace, a beautiful kitchen, and great views.

Absolutely wonderful stay

A gorgeous property that made our holiday so special. It was more than enough room for our 2 families to come together, and enjoy hanging out in the sun drenched comfortable lounge and cool together in the well equipped and laid out kitchen, and dine together. The house is finished in high quality furnishings and so beautifully considered. The beds were a dream! The views from the house up over the mountains felt like a fairy tale. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

Excellent property

Set below the snow capped mountains, birds and sheep to watch with a cuppa, the warmth of the straw bale home, this home is a awesome base for a kaikoura stay. Be sure to ask Hamish to cook you a smoked lamb shank dinner and a fish curry…beautiful food. We hiked the headland and the beach with the seals, did a whale watch tour, drove to hamner springs, highly recommend this lovely stay, the double day bed is the best seat in the house. Thank you for sharing your house built with such passion Hamish.
