Why visit Orosi? The Orosi Valley is a landscape of topical hues. The rainforest of Tapanti and the Alto Cedral Cloud Forest paint a background of various shades of green, teeming with wildlife. Every turn of the road provides a new diversity of colors and terrain. Located south of Cartago, the Orosi Valley is a true jewel. Famous for its beautiful views, colonial churches, coffee farms, white water rivers, hot springs and Lake Cachí, the Orosi Valley and surrounding towns are like a birthday present, waiting to be opened. The small quaint villages offer a unique location where you can relax and enjoy a real slice of Costa Rican life. During coffee picking season, September through January, the valley comes to life. The pickers can be heard singing and talking in the fields as they pick the worlds best coffee.
It is easy to book activities such as: guided local tours, mountain biking, horse back riding, hiking, water rafting, and other interesting activities to keep active during the day. For detailed information on local tours, visit our web site.
Orosi Valley Self Guided Tours
The Orosi Valley and surrounding areas have many different tours, which can take up to a week to see all of the local attractions. Of the top 20 things to do in Costa Rica, four are in or near the Orosi Valley, numbers six, seven, eight and nine.

Why Stephen and Nancy Riley chose Orosi
Nancy ripped out over 40,000 coffee trees to plant our gardens. The view, location, climate and Costa Rican people made this property our choice for our retirement home.

A lovely home. Gracious hosts. Comfy bed. Miles of amazing views. Garden trails to get lost in. Birds birds birds. Perfect weather year-round. This the place to get away from it all and relax. (Beach is not close). Can't go wrong.
Most relaxing perch to view the rainforest
I couldn’t get over the view from the patio or upstairs balcony. You look around the valley at green mountains in all directions. Some are cultivated in tiers of dark, green coffee plants, stepping down the steep slopes. Others are coverered with green of all shades. It can all look at little unreal like a movie backdrop, especially when mists creep into the valley.
The villa is plenty real though, and you can enjoy a lot of the flora and fauna within steps of bed because Nancy’s botanical garden surrounds the property and extends in all directions. A multitude of trails wind through lush brush with broad green leaves and exotic flowers mix. The fragrance of orange trees and other blossoms hangs in the air. If you like dogs, the Rileys’ 4 friendly Rottweilers will give you a tour.
The location was awesome, but that isn’t to say the amenities and hospitality was anything less. The beds were comfy, and the kitchen was well stocked with pans, plates etc. There is an induction burner but no oven. This wasn’t a big deal for us because we weren’t planning to bake, and we couldn’t find frozen pizzas in the stores anyway. They have a nice selection of movies and a jacuzzi for relaxing in the evenings. Some board games like Scrabble might be nice, but now I’m getting picky. There is Wi-Fi after all.
Steve and Nancy were excellent hosts. They provided loads of helpful advice, and they can help arrange day trips like rafting or mountain biking. They also helped us by converting your dollars for colones. Steve even baked us rolls and cookies!
They were gracious and inviting, but you won’t feel like they’re invading your space. If you want to do your own thing, you’ll feel like you have the whole property to yourselves. I highly recommend the villa for your stay in Costa Rica. It made our vacation extra special.
P.S. My only critique doesn’t have anything to do with the location. The issue (for us anyway) is that getting there can be tough. We got a little confused by the directions from the airport and got lost for a while. You can’t really use a GPS either because the address isn’t mapped. Thank goodness Steve guided us in once we called him (and could tell him where we were). That said, I wouldn’t underestimate the importance of scoping out the route on line before hand and maybe printing out some screen shots. This is something that maybe the Rileys can offer in the future. Once you’re there, you can always pin it on the GPS to find your way.
The scenery is beautiful, the house is perfect, but Steve and Nancy made it feel like home. They are wonderful hosts! Nancy is an amazing Gardner, their property is a botanical garden, we so enjoyed taking early morning walks through the garden. We love dogs so they were a plus, Stella was my favorite we bonded immediately, she came to see me regularly. The house was comfortable, very clean, and had everything you need to cook with. The views are beautiful we certainly did not want to leave. We also loved the town of Orosi it has a great pizza place, Lena’s, that Steve and Nancy recommended. On the day of our 25th anniversary Nancy surprised me with beautiful cut flowers in a vase, they looked like they came from a florist. With all that said and who could ask for more Steve called and made my husband a dentist appt. He had a filling come out and part of his tooth chipped off and was hurting. Steve drove us to the dentist office and stayed until they were done!!! The cost was only 200.00 and my husband said he was the best dentist he had ever been to. If you need dental work go to Dr. Danny! We are already planning our next trip back to see them, Steve and Nancy are as beautiful as the view!
Thanks for making our 25th so memorable!
piece of heaven

Great view, tranquil setting, relaxing porch tub. My wife enjoyed some peaceful work/relaxing time while my boys and I rafted the Picuare River.
We’re back home in Virginia, it’s cold, and all we can think about is the paradise we just left. We long to be sitting on the beautiful balcony overlooking the gorgeous Orosi Valley! Steve and Nancy...thanks again for an awesome stay. We love, love, loved every second of it!
Whitewater rafting trips are available in the Orosi Valley
