About Mary Spencer

Being a huge outdoor enthusiast, I have been visiting the North Georgia Mountains for years. The hiking is incredible, with marked and unmarked trails everywhere. The lakes are beautiful and so serene, plus the fishing is great. The towns of Ellijay and Blue Ridge are adorable and both have tons of great shops and restaurants. Makes it easy to enjoy all that nature has to offer and then be able to sit down at a nice "Mom and Pop" restaurant for some local trout and veggies. I bought my first little log cabin in 2000, which I thoroughly enjoyed with family and friends, so much so that I decided to buy my second one a few years later. Both of my girls grew up playing in the dirt, riding 4 -wheeler, picking blackberries and fishing in the creek. I now bring my 4 year old grand-daughter to the "cabin" so she can also have an opportunity to enjoy this amazing place and make some great memories.

I currently own 4 cabins ( all are listed on Homeaway/VRBO) and opened a company in 2010 called Morning Breeze Cabin Rentals, which manages a total of 60 log cabins throughout the Blue Ridge and Ellijay area. I would love for each and every one of you to come on up and experience all that the mountains of Blue Ridge have to offer. A lot has changed since the year 2000, we now have wineries, ziplines, fishing and hiking guides plus fine dining to add to the list of things to do and enjoy while visiting the beautiful mountains of North Georgia.

Why Mary Spencer chose Ellijay

I picked the Sunset Ridge for the incredible view and of course the fact that you could relax on the back deck and watch it set over the mountains. I also liked how roomie it was for my extra family and friends who liked to come visit. I added onto the already large outdoor deck with the outdoor fireplace so we could spend even more of our time outside. Even in the cooler weather the fireplace is a perfect spot to cozy up in front of with a warm cup of tea.

What makes this cabin unique

Very quiet since it's end of the road. I liked that it was only about 15 minutes from either town yet I felt like I was a million miles away from everything :)

Cozy, peaceful and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a long weekend with some family in from out of town, and it was perfect. We loved having our dogs with us too, and the enclosed deck was great to have for them. We were comfortable, cooked a lot and enjoyed the fireplace and the foosball table. It was a beautiful view from the deck; we loved watching the sunsets. Would certainly recommend!

A few things missing

  • 4 of 5

I would suggest that the coffee pot be larger. We had eight adults drinking coffee, and a four cup pot did not cut it. Yes there was a Kurig, but we were not aware and didn't bring pods, which are expensive, plus we would like to have coffee at the same time. Another suggestion is that there be chairs available to add to the table. Sleeping 8 but seating 6 is not good for meals together and game playing. We brought in outdoor chairs but a little low. The only other issue was lack of kitchen towels and pot scruber

WE did have a lovely time, and appreciataed the fire woods

Owner's Response: Terry, thank you for the feedback on the cabin. The Keurig was added 3 weeks ago so I guess I need to update that on the site. It was suggested last month by another big group of coffee drinkings :) i sure hope everyone had the chance to enjoy the huge outdoor deck with fire-place and soak in the hot tub while watching the Sun set over the mountains. Have a great day and hope to see you again next year ~ Mary

Gorgeous "top of the mountain" view, golden sunsets, woodland decor, fireplaces, hallmark memories

  • 5 of 5

We did something different than our family has ever done before ... we spent Christmas in the mountains and it was absolutely wonderful. The weather was freezing and the fire in the fireplace, both inside and out on the deck, added to the charm of this magnificent cabin. The "woodland" decor was such an addition to the quaint feel of the rustic beauty. The "hustle and bustle" of Christmas was not in our lives this year ... there was a rare 'peace of mind' ... much laughter, and memories treasured. The layout of the cabin offered privacy for all. Would definitely go again.

Beautiful cabin, beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

The size, location, and amenities of this cabin were perfect for us. The view was beautiful from the hot tub and outdoor fireplace. The beds were comfortable and the living room was beautiful. The balcony off of the private master is a great touch. Thank you!

Good experience overall

  • 4 of 5

Would’ve been a 5 but...... the rough roads to the cabin and no shower in the master bedroom. The view was very nice!

Owner's Response: Ashley, Thank you for letting me know about your recent stay at the Sunset Ridge. It sounds like you had a very nice time and you are correct, the road up is a bit bumpy but hopefully the amazing view at the top made it worth it. I hope you'll come stay with me again in the future - Mary

Hot, but beautiful

  • 3 of 5

Upon arrival at the cabin we noticed it was a beautiful view but a very warm inside. We read our note on the a/c unit asking guests to turn the unit back up to 80 when leaving in order to not be wasteful, and then turned it down thinking that must be the issue. Since it was so warm we decided to head out and run a few errands to give the house time to cool down because it was pretty unbearable at 3 in the afternoon to be inside. However, upon returning to the house we found that it was still 87 degrees inside with warm air blowing out of the vents! We placed a call to rental property emergency line only to be told that no one could get out to the house until the following morning, which was understandable since by this point it was around 7pm. We were very lucky that once the sun started going down there was a breeze outside and no rain, so we spent most of our evening outside enjoying the sunset and stargazing. Our air repair people did show up the next morning and got us all fixed up and the house finally started to cool down around 1:30 in the afternoon. It would have been nice to have been asked by the property manager if they could reimburse me at least some of the money paid given our inconvenience, but sadly you can't always get what you want. Besides all of that i would highly recommend this cabin to anyone, assuming that the air is fully functioning. The views from the whole space were exceptional!

Owner's Response: Caitlin, thank you for letting us know about your stay at the Sunset Ridge. Beside the A/C ( which is serviced 2X's/year) it sounds like you truly enjoyed your stay. The view is amazing and we agreed the cabin is warm and inviting. I hope readers can look past the poor review of 3 Stars at the gem of cabin this really is and not rank it according to a minor malfunction that is completely out of our control and handling in a timely fashion.

Sunset Ridge is located approximately 6 miles down Boardtown road, where you will turn onto Big Ben. Several miles up it dead ends into Gobbler Knob where you will experience a wonderful Sunset over the vast expansion of mountains from the extra large deck. It is located about 10 minutes from downtown Ellijay, where you will find plenty of antiques stores, shopping and restaurants. It is also 15 minutes from Blue Ridge, an upscale town with speciality boutiques and fine dining as well as the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad. You will be minutes from fishing, horseback riding and hiking can be done from the front door, with a moderate to intense terrain. There is tubing about 20 minutes away in both Ellijay and Blue Ridge, Lake Blue RIdge for boating, jet skies and fishing and whitewater rafting is less then an hour away at the Ocoee and a bit further North to the Nantulahala.
