About Ray McFolling

We are a professional couple living south of Tampa in Apollo Beach, FL. Ray is a financial planner with 27 years experience and Sally is a real estate broker managing two Keller Williams offices.

Ray McFolling purchased this house in 2006

Why Ray McFolling chose Hiawassee

We have friends who had a cabin in Barefoot Hills, and Sally is originally from Georgia and was familiar with this area.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the seclusion and relaxed feeling you will experience while rocking in a chair on deck listening to the wind blowing through the trees.

Or watching the sun set over the mountain peaks

What a beautiful home! It's in a great and private location with a fantastic view of the mountains. A great home for 2-3 couples or for family with children, everthing is there for fun, just bring your clothing and food! We enjoyed the pool table, home theater system and wireless internet, all the comforts of home! Very reasonably priced. We can't wait to return to Bear Ridge! Thanks for allowing us into your wonderful home in the mountains!

Great property, great location

  • 5 of 5

The property is located near Helen, GA(35 minute drive) and other cities in North GA. Highlands N.C. is only an hour away. But for us being able to sit on the deck without traffic noise was the best. We normally go to pigeon forge or gatlinburg, but this was the best cabin we’ve stayed in and we like the little towns around here better. We will be coming back to this cabin and this area.

Beautiful Home and surroundings with some serious concerns.

  • 2 of 5

For a remote location with no human interruptions, this is the spot. Be sure to bring what you need. The up and down from the mountain is very steep. While 2-3000 ft elevation may not sound like much, the getting there is not for the faint hearted. The house is very cozy. The fire pit is great for roasting smores and things to cook over a wood fire. Beds are very comfortable. Hiking is not nearby and the terrain is rugged. Though there is supposed to be satellite TV, we could not get it to work. We were able to hook up the DVD. It was not wired when we arrived. We were also able to access Net Flicks later in the week. The dishes are well stocked. Beware of microwaving a coffee in the cups provided, they get overly hot, very quickly. The pool table was a big hit for our kids. Beware if you are a serious player, the table is not level and the balls curve to the pockets. The ladies mostly enjoyed the hot tub until about four days later. Four days after the one time I went in the hot tub, same problem. All the family hiked to Tallulah Falls. I thought we had a nasty case of chiggers or something more ferocious. In sending pictures to my brother-in-law, a Dermitologist, he said it was Hot Tub Rash. Three of us wound up going to our Dr. and confirming my Brother-in -laws assessment.10 days of Cephex, still on going, we are recovering. The third day of our stay, I was awakened by critters in the ceiling. Not the roof, rather scratching on the dry wall, as they scurried from the outside window across the bed area, to above the sink in the bathroom. My guess, squirrels who found an opening, looking for a place to nest. Not what I wanted to wake up to at 5am. As far as bugs, not too many wasps. A couple of Carpenter ants and one silver dollar size brown spider on our last day near the fireplace. The biggest issue was millipedes in the lower floor bathroom. They showed up a couple of days after we arrived and kept coming out, though we sprayed bug killer all over the spot, several times. Make sure the trash is closed and locked. The garbage guy left it open on Thursday and in the middle of that night, though there was no garbage, something pounded on the cans and woke everyone at 1am. It wasn't 'til daylight that I found the cans unlocked and uncovered. The skin rash, Doctors visits & medications, due to a unclean Hot Tub, put a damper over the whole family and trip. Good maintenance could have changed that.
