$975.00/week, sec. deposit required, plus Maine tax, and one time cleaning fee of $150.00, no pets allowed and non-smokers preferred.

The cottage on Westport Island is a 1913 Victorian Cottage which we have owned since 1970. The house is old and quirky, but very comfortable, and it has been lovingly maintained by head carpenter, Paul, over the years.

Many members of my family have poured their love and sweat into this property.

The cottage has four bedrooms, two large screened porches, two bathrooms, washing machine, dryer, standard simple kitchen, and high ceilings on the first floor. New mattresses in two bedrooms.

The house is NOT wheel chair accessible.

There are antiques in the pieces that we treasure., Warning: there is a small t-v in the house to watch DVD's, but no cable or satellite, so come prepared to listen to the radio, and play cards, games, and badminton. In 2011, we did add Wi-Fi, so you can get E-mail. The owner has discontinued the use of moth balls. We now use dryer sheets instead.

We own frontage on the Sheepscot River, and belong to an association which owns a STEEP path to the water where there is a boathouse and small mussel-covered beach. The river is tidal, and the saltwater is COLD, so it is a great river for boating.

Children under 10 years of age must wear a PFD when near the water, a new safety rule to keep kids safe. There are wonderful lake and ocean swimming beaches within a half hour drive. Renovation of the downstairs bathroom is complete and we now have a washer and a dryer in the new mudroom.

We have a gas grill on a cement pad outdoors, and we cook most of our meals out there.

We have a lovely view of the Sheepscot River (saltwater) and we see lots of wildlife on the island, especially osprey, fox, and deer.

About Deb Keiner

My husband and I bought this coast of Maine property in 1970, and our family has done all of the work to update and maintain the property. We have lived in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Oklahoma, and New Hampshire. We have three grown children and two grandchildren, and we all cherish this house! We enjoy reading, playing games, singing, and gardening. We love going to local restaurants, trips to the beach, golf, and other activities.

Why Deb Keiner chose Westport

Westport island is a quiet location, yet we are 10 minutes from Wiscasset, where there are many activities and restaurants. As a kid, I travelled to Maine many times and fell in love with the rugged and rocky coastline. We love the beaches (Reid, Popham, and Damariscotta), and we all love seafood! The house is comfortable and ideal for groups of eight people. It is also close to Brunswick, Maine, and makes it an ideal rental for Bowdoin College families.

I host an annual weekend for quilters in the house, and 8 of us set up machines and sew to our heart's delight!

What makes this house unique

We do have Wi-fi in the house so we can keep up with the news. We eat all of our meals on a large screened porch where we can view the Sheepscot, and see osprey, deer, turkeys and other wildlife. We also have cocktails on this porch in the evening, and totally enjoy the ambience of our surroundings. The house is child-proofed with locks and gates where necessary. I have watched my own children play games in the yard, and allowed them to play in the woods near by. They love the house, and have never complained about no t-v. We go to the library, and do lots of reading and singing.

Great getaway!

We had a comfortable and enjoyable stay in this Victorian cottage! Great view of the Sheepscot River from the house and from the large screened porch. Comfortable beds and lots of room. Great for families looking at Bowdoin College and great for groups of quilters!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your delightful comments about our Victorian cottage on Westport Island. It is comfortable and relaxing with a lovely view of the Sheepscot River, which is saltwater and tidal. The house accommodates 8 people and is fun for one or two families together. Lots of good places to eat nearby. There are three golf courses that we recommend, and there are other activities in the area. The seafood at local restaurants is the best!

This is a lovely house in the woods to get away from it all. The rates are reasonable, comparable to a hotel stay. Get another couple, as we did, and it’s cheaper still. Big enough that we were not bumping into each other and had privacy when we wished. We took the bedroom downstairs and it basically has a private bathroom outside the room, and upstairs there is a shared bathroom with the other bedrooms, so they also had their own bathroom. Screened in porches upstairs and downstairs. Short walk to saltwater fishing in the Sheepscot River. Shopping in Freeport and the quaint town of Wiscasset are not too far away. Golf courses are anywhere from 10 minutes to half hour drive. The owners leave helpful suggestions of what is in the area and one night we took a short drive to Five Island Lobster Co. in Georgetown recommended by them. Fried seafood and lobster rolls were delicious and the view over the bay was stunning. Hiking areas are a simple walk out the door. There is no TV reception but there is a DVD player. There are games available to play and wi-fi is included and I got good reception. A selection of books and magazines to read, but for us the best part was the Adirondack chairs overlooking the Sheepscot to enjoy the morning cup of coffee or afternoon cup of wine in the midst of nature. Enjoy the many quilts the talented owner has throughout the house. Highly recommend this as a great, relaxing place to stay.

Owner's Response: This is a wonderful and accurate description of our property on Westport Island. Many people have enjoyed this relaxing and comfortable setting. The house was built in 1913, and we have tried to retain the charm of the Victorian era, while providing our guests with as many creature comforts as possible. We are located on a quiet island, but close enough to Wiscasset to enjoy everything the coast of Maine has to offer.

Our Victorian Cottage is located 10 minutes from Wiscasset, Maine, and here you will find restaurants, antique shops, and walking areas near the water. We are also 25 minutes from Boothbay, and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. This botanical garden is a great favorite of my whole family, and all of our guests. We are also within easy driving distance of golf at the Bath Country Club, Sheepscot Links, or Sebasco Estates. Just 5 miles from the house is the "Monkey See- Monkey Do", a climbing area for kids and adults.

We have many favorite restaurants: Montsweag Roadhouse, Five Islands Lobster, Estes Lobster, Le Garage, Sea Basket and Red's Eats.

The public boat landing is on the west side of the island - a 10 minute walk, and there is parking there for boat trailers.
