Near Mývatn, Aldeyjarfoss, Goðafoss and the Icelandic highlands. AN HOUR AWAY from Húsavík and Akureyri, we are in a rural area about 30km inland from waterfall Goðafoss, on road 843. It's quiet, quaint and isolated. Part of an active farm, the house has a big yard and a wide open space and amazing view over the highlands. Ideal for couples, friends, families with children and adventurers. The house has 3 floors, but only the middle floor is for rent. The owner has access to the basement and the attic is closed.
The space
The house was built in the early 1900's. The floor for rent has three bedrooms, a living room, a large kitchen and a bathroom. The third bedroom is located in a room off the livingroom. There are two double beds, a large single bed and a smaller single bed and a fold-out couch for two. The interior is from the 60's and the furniture is a mixture of antiques and new pieces.
Guest access
The middle floor of the house is for rent. The attic is a storage space and the owner has access to the basement through another entrance. Unfortunately there is no wheel chair access at this moment.
Other things to note
We offer our guests a tour the farmhouses if they wish where they can get up close to the animals and see how an Icelandic farm is run. We have sheep, hens and ducks. May is our lambing season which means that our sheep will all be giving birth to their lambs. The owners will be very busy during the lambing season but would be happy to let the guests observe, learn and perhaps even participate in the lambing if there is interest. We do strive to give our guests an experience that is a bit different from the usual tourist version of Iceland, which closer to nature and the essence of the old Icelandic community spirit. During the winter months there can be spectacular aurora borealis if the weather is clear so be sure to check out both the weather forecast and the northern light forecast.
