Reviewer Comments:
Six of us (4 adults, 2 children) used this house as home base for visiting H2OBX and OBX during Labor Day weekend. The layout of the house was comfortable, everything was in excellent working order and the configuration met our needs nicely. The children (ages 12 and 7) loved the spiral staircase up to their beds in the loft. Overall, the house was like new and quite clean. Also, the realty company was very communicative and helpful. The reasons for the 4 star ratings are: 1) when the family went to enjoy the pool at 3pm on this very hot holiday weekend, it had closed at 2pm (not advertised in advance); 2) the kitchen was not "gourmet" as stated in the advertising video. Cooking was a bit of a challenge due to quality and low quantity of cooking accoutrement; 3) location could pose a long trip to beaches during high tourist season due to traffic if that's a priority, though it's very close to the water park; and 4) the deck backs up to an area of standing water and an uncleared wooded area, which was not evident in online photos of this cottage. In retrospect, if you zoom in to the picture of the deck, what appears to be grass is actually a sizeable, unattractive pool of water. This is also true for the cottages to the right and left. That said, it did not present a problem for our short stay. So would we recommend this particular cottage? If we had known about the water issue, we might have opted for one that backs onto the putting green simply for a nicer view. One thing not mentioned in the advertising but not to be missed is the rather hard to find but beautiful and expansive water view from the pier and shore at the rear of the Kilmarlic grounds, particularly at sunset.
