Το αρχαίο πέτρινο νερόμυλος, που βρίσκεται σε ένα φυσικό παράδεισο των αγριολούλουδων, των ώριμων δασών, των ρυάκια, των νησιών και των καταρρακτών των 30 στρεμμάτων, έχει αποκατασταθεί αισθητά για να κάνει ένα όμορφα εξοπλισμένο οικογενειακό σπίτι και απομονωμένο καταφύγιο διακοπών. Φωτεινό, φιλόξενο και άνετο σε όλες τις εποχές, το Moulin de Parrot περιβάλλεται από ρομαντικές κήπους, με μια πληθώρα από αρωματικά τριαντάφυλλα, αγιοκλήματα, γιασεμιά και wisterias φτάνουν στο ρεύμα πέστροφα. Ένα μοναδικό κτίριο σε ένα μοναδικό περιβάλλον: Ο μύλος είναι ένα συναρπαστικό και μοναδικό τόπο, με πλούσια ιστορία και με τη δική του ξεχωριστή ατμόσφαιρα και ευχάριστο περιβάλλον. Στέκεται σε μια ηλιόλουστη, ανοιχτή κοιλάδα στο τέλος του 1 χιλιομέτρου λωρίδα, θα εντολές υπέροχη θέα των ρευμάτων, λιβάδια με αγριολούλουδα και τα αρχαία δάση από κάθε παράθυρο, με κανένα άλλο σημάδι της ανθρώπινης κατοίκησης. Για τους λάτρεις της φύσης και τους περιπατητές είναι ένας παρθένος παράδεισος, με πλούσια άγρια φύση. Το νερό είναι μια σταθερή και απαλή παρουσία, και πολλοί άνθρωποι έχουν εντοπίσει τη καταπραϋντικές, επουλωτικές και αναζωογονητική ατμόσφαιρα. Πολλές καλλιτέχνες και συγγραφείς έχουν βρει την έμπνευση εδώ.
Το ίδιο το κτίριο είναι αρχαία και γεμάτο χαρακτήρα. Η εξάρτηση από το μοναστήρι των Φραγκισκανών στο Ambialet, σε μια θεαματική μαίανδρος της Tarn στο δρόμο για Αλμπί (αξίζει μια επίσκεψη), ξέσπασε στην ιστορία και πάλι ως καταφύγιο Αντίστασης στον Β Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο. Ευαίσθητα αποκατάσταση έχει διατηρήσει όλα τα αυθεντικά χαρακτηριστικά του, μεταξύ των οποίων τη λειτουργία μύλου, το οποίο ελπίζουμε μια μέρα να αποκαταστήσει σε κατάσταση λειτουργίας.

Μια αυθεντική γαλλική γεύση: Αυτή η περιοχή παραμένει unselfconsciously παραδοσιακό χαρακτήρα, έτσι και εδώ μπορείτε πραγματικά να ζήσετε την αγροτική Γαλλία στην αυθεντική καλύτερες στιγμές της. Stay at the Moulin September 2024

We really enjoyed our stay. The mill has plenty of amenity and is in a wonderful and secluded setting. There was plenty to occupy ourselves with in and around the mill. Whilst secluded it was also conveniently located for the shops and days out.

Two idyllic weeks

We have just spent two idyllic weeks in this beautifully restored mill house. It is set in its own valley where a river and many streams flow. So there is the wonderful sound of running water everywhere, as well as much bird song. On the floor of the valley are meadows of long grasses and wild flowers with many butterflies. On the sides of the valley and along the riverbanks there are lovely mature trees. Around the house there is an extensive garden with different characterful areas including a mill pond, an old ruined barn, a waterfall, an arbour and a swimming pool. The great glory when we were there were all the beautiful roses and their captivating scent. For us, it was the most idyllic of places.

A Fortnight in Paradise

This was a return to a dear old friend. We love Le Moulin and its wonderful setting. It is unique in affording such blissful absorption in the majesty of a quiet verdant valley with a river and streams. You have it all to yourself. The trees, plants and meadows are truly astounding. The wildlife is plentiful - hundreds of butterflies every day, frogs in the mill pond, kingfishers darting along the water surfaces and the sound of birdsong everywhere. On this occasion we were lucky enough to see a stag crossing the river just by the house very early in the morning. The property itself is a wonderfully restored old mill house. It evokes ages long past and yet it has all the comfort and beauty that anyone could want. Each room is perfectly and lovingly appointed. The views from the windows take your breath away. We cannot wait to return again next year.

Stunning. Magical. Paradise.

We've just returned from what we all agree is our best holiday ever. The Moulin is stunning, and can only be rivalled by it's incredibly beautiful setting. The river, millpond, meadows and woods provide endless beauty and activities. At times we grabbed a sturdy stick and set off along the river to seek adventures. If in a more sedate mood, a seat by the kitchen window counting crayfish below might be in order (I think our record was 7 in view at the same time, but we weren't really trying you know!). Plenty of previous reviews detail the important stuff so just a brief reiteration: The moulin is both practical and beautiful, and achieves that balance wonderfully. We cooked a lot of meals there, and every pot, pan, whisk, jug, grater, peeler etc you might need is immediately to hand. The rooms are all picture postcard perfect and radiate the 100s of years worth of history they've absorbed. Barbara and Gavin, supported by the lovely Jocelyn and Jean-Louis were fantastic to deal without from booking to departure. When I enquired on our second day to ask if there might be a long extension lead handy, Jocelyn and Jean-Louis popped one round within hours (Barbara and Gavin: my "portable cinema worked perfectly, and we enjoyed several films under the stars. Thanks for again for accommodating). So again - simply the best holiday ever. We would love to return if the Moulin will have us - and the Moulin is the star of the show!

Un coin de paradis

Endroit magique, d’un charme si authentique, l’impression d’être dans une maison de famille emplie d’histoires. Un jardin laissant libre cours à la nature, de l’eau omniprésente autour de nous, libellules et papillons à volonté : nous partons vraiment à regrets, émus de cette semaine en famille dans un tel lieu.

An idyllic getaway

We had the most marvellous week at le moulin de parrot. The mill has everything you need, from a well stocked kitchen to kids games in cupboards. We were 4 adults and 4 young children. The pool and river were fantastic - although the pool is just out of sight of the main house there is a safety gate at the top of the stairs and even a pool alarm so it always felt very safe. Our children adored the interesting books and playthings they discovered. A highlight for everyone was catching crayfish in the river! As the house was so great we didn’t venture too far afield but enjoyed exploring the villages on the river Tarn and had a great lunch at the Restarant Selvoir 10 minutes north of the mill. Everyone we encountered without exception was friendly and helpful and very forgiving of our terrible attempts at French . Barbara was a wonderful host and very prompt with questions and attention to detail and Josephine who helped us there also very welcoming. Thank you! You can sense the love and care that has gone into transforming this incredible building into a family home, and it felt very special to feel part of it for a week. We’ll be back.

Le paradis sur terre

Le moulin de Parrot est un lieu d'exception ! Ces 2 semaines sont passées à une allure folle tellement le cadre est enchanteur. Au milieu d'une superbe région, toute la famille (parents et 3 ados entre 12 et 17 ans) ont été conquis par la magie du site. Bien sûr, la piscine et la rivière ont été très précieuses avec les fortes températures. Heel mooie en rustige omgeving

Zeer vriendelijke en flexibele gastvrouw. Mooie en rustige omgeving. Aanrader voor juli en augustus. September misschien iets te weinig acticiteiten in de directe omgeving, maar dat is persoonlijk. Qua huis heel goed voorzien, enkel jammer dat er niet voor alle ramen gordijntjes zijn, maar vroege vogels zullen dat niet erg vinden.

Droom vakantie

Wij zijn een week naar de Moulin geweest. Het is het meest prachtige huis waar wij ooit hebben verbleven. Het huis is enorm authentiek. Van binnen ziet het huis er erg gezellig uit. Buiten kun je verdwalen in de enorme, mooie tuin. Het zwembad is heerlijk verkoelend. Er zijn in de buurt genoeg dingen om te doen, zoals kanoën, vissen, fietsen, wandelen, zwemmen. Barbara kan hier goede tips over geven. De communicatie met Barbara verliep heel soepel en snel, wat heel fijn was. Wij hadden een probleem met de vaatwasser, Barbara heeft meteen een loodgieter langs gestuurd. Wat een top service! Barbara, heel erg bedankt voor deze fantastische vakantie. Wij komen zeker terug!

Heerlijke plek in een natuurlijke omgeving

Deze oude watermolen is een aanrader om naar toe te gaan, zeker met kinderen. Het heeft niet alleen een heerlijk zwembad, maar in de rivier kun je ook dammen bouwen, kreeftjes en visjes vangen en op zoek gaan naar de ijsvogel. Rond het huis en het zwembad wemelt het van de vlinders en libellen en als je rond loopt ruik je de munt en lavendel. We zagen rond het huis twee herten, een marter, waarschijnlijk een vos en een compleet ongevaarlijke esculaapslang. De molen is charmant, karakteristiek en comfortabel. Ook leuk, er liggen mappen vol informatie over de geschiedenis ervan.

Nature et repos

Nous avons séjourné dans cette merveilleuse propriété du 13 au 27 juillet 2019. Le moulin est "dans son jus" coté déco, fidèle aux photos. Il est très très spacieux, bien équipé. Rien ne nous a manqué. La propriété est exceptionnelle : la nature est fortement présente, le passage du GIFFOU est très reposant, la verdure omniprésente. L'espace piscine est formidable (grande piscine, très bien exposée). Très rapidement on a un sentiment d'une forte quiétude. Le calme est très reposant. On a le sentiment d'être seul au monde !!! L'emplacement est également très stratégique : la localisation centrale du lieu permet de découvrir très facilement l'ensemble des points touristiques sans faire trop de route. De la préparation du séjour à son déroulement, Barbara est à l'écoute de ses hôtes et est très réactive en cas de besoin. Merci encore. Nous avons retrouvé cette même gentillesse avec l’ensemble des personnes rencontrées aux moulins ou lors de nos visites.

A beautiful watermill

We have a wonderful stay at Barbara's watermill. It was everything we dreamed about. The mill was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The swimming pool was rather chilly but that did not stop us using it. It was peaceful in the middle of the woods with no traffic noise. Barbara was very helpful when we needed her. I would definitely recommend that you stay here. We loved it and will go back again.

Très bon séjour de 2 semaines dans ce charmant moulin où toute la famille (2 couples et 4 enfants) a pris ses marques. La piscine a été fort appréciée pendant cette période caniculaire, la rivière pour la pêche, le calme des vacances au vert bien ressourçantes. Nombreuses visites, randonnées aux alentours, de Millau à Albi, en passant par des villages plus beaux les uns que les autres : très jolie région près du Tarn. A recommander sans hésitation

A special place

My family and I enjoyed a lovely stay at the mill. I couldn't fail to forget about the troubles of work etc. and my daughters loved mucking about in the pool. Surrounded by beautiful trees, the sound of the stream, and in complete privacy, this is a real sanctuary.

An idyllic and perfectly placed house for an energetic family. Space for us all, a delightful escape

I cannot express how much we enjoyed our stay at the Moulin. The environment creates an idyllic atmosphere which we originally experienced over 20 years ago. We returned this year simply because we have never had a subsequent holiday in France which has met the expectations created as a result of that first stay. This time we returned with a young and energetic family who were well entertained with the wildlife, the space and the pool. As a family we relaxed, re grouped and reminded ourselves why holidays are so very important. The house is more than well equipped and I left with kitchen bowl envy! The rooms are spacious and the opportunity to eat outside for almost every meal was such a treat! In fact, the BBQ area was so nice that we felt no need to venture out for supper at all! Memories of the break keep bouncing back, despite the rain back home and such reveries will keep us all going until the next, inevitable trip.

A beautiful haven

We returned recently from our second wonderful visit to the Moulin. Le Moulin de Parrot is truly a magical place that is like no other we have been to. The children, now 12,10 and 7, and both my husband and I were so excited to be returning. There are so many things that make the moulin and it's gardens so special, and this year we truly made the most of them. There are many beautiful historic villages and castles to explore in the area but we all wanted to spend more time this year at the moulin itself. We discovered more of the hills and walks around the house, we explored further down the river and found beautiful picnic spots along its banks. The children built dams, explored the wildlife, made homes in the trees along the river , painted, set up treasure hunts, swam in the river , climbed a waterfall and just had the time to play as children should do! This year we also brought our own inflatable kayak and found wonderful spots along the Tarn to try it out. The moulin itself has a real charm and sense of history and you cannot help but fall in love with it the moment you arrive! We very much hope to return soon.

An idyllic piece of living history

Le Moulin de Parrot is the most idyllic holiday house that my wife and I and our two friends have rented in many years. The photos don’t do it justice. We had mixed weather on our late-June fortnight (35 degrees in the first week, exhilarating thunderstorms and chilly in the second), but the flowers, frogs, deer (one glimpse), birdsong, river, and ambiance were always delightful. Buried in deep countryside and surrounded by thick woods and small meadows, the completely isolated mill is approached by a private kilometer-long unmade-up road through the trees. It is the most sensitively restored place we know. The owners’ absolute respect for the past is apparent in the use of old roof-tiles and ancient timber where possible, in the peasant-antique furniture and in the carefully preserved detailing of staircases, walls and millpond. We felt part of a living history. The house is totally comfortable - good beds, fully equipped and efficient kitchen, cosy living room and sofas, marvellous barn-door dining table. The pool was smallish but ideal for us, all in our seventies. The peace of the place was complete. Its location does mean that one has to drive quite a way to see the local sights (Conques, Cordes, Albi, the Millau viaduct, etc.), but Brousse le Chateau is 25 minutes away and is spectacular and the restaurant very good. The small but uninteresting town of Requista and its huge supermarket you can get to in ten minutes. Barbara the English owner and her French friend Jocelyn who lives nearby couldn’t have been more helpful, even if in the latter case our miserable grasp of French was painfully exposed. The house was clean and well-maintained. Though we have never met, Barbara’s attention to our queries was immediate and full, and she now feels like a personal friend. Our recommendation would be 10-star if that were permitted, and I for one would love to return.

A wonderful and wild retreat in the heart of France

We are a family of 4 including 2 teenagers and we had a wonderful week in the watermill in July 2016. It is a very unusual and special place - we've never stayed anywhere quite like it before. It's extremely peaceful with no neighbours close by although it is only a very short drive to local amenities. The sound of water everywhere is very soothing and relaxing and the tremendous variety of butterflies which provide an escort from the mill to the swimming pool is really breathtaking. If you're looking for granite kitchen worktops and 21st century power showers then this isn't the place for you. However, if you're looking for a very special getaway in rural France, this is the perfect spot. We had everything we needed for a relaxing and peaceful holiday. The kichen is very well equipped and it's double aspect windows mean that cooking in it is a joy. The wonderful roll top bath under the huge velux window provided a first class opportunity to wallow in a warm bath with a chilled glass of wine and gaze up at the amazing stars. We will definitely be recommending this place to like minded souls.

I am a literary translator from French of books on the arts, architecture, gardens and history, with a special penchant for the French Resistance. I first fell in love with this part of France in 1975, when I was a student in Toulouse. Gavin is a technical director in theatre who has a long history of restoring classic cars (Citroën DSs a speciality) and historic houses. When we first saw the mill in 1989 it was love at first sight. Long abandoned and dilapidated though it was, it had clearly been an important and well-loved building, and the site was simply magical. In the early months we lived there without electricity or running water, while slowly re-roofing the house, installing services (with the help of the very supportive local mayor, who was related to the family of the last millers there) and turning it into a family home. Aided by stalwart friends and volunteers, we did all the work ourselves. Determined to respect the authentic and historic character of the building and mill workings, we sought out the few remaining survivors of the last generation of millers from other local mills, and consulted regional experts on mill history and technology. We met some amazing characters and it was all absolutely fascinating. Outside, we slowly began to clear decades of undergrowth to reveal the weir, millpond, stream and overflow waterfalls. Meanwhile two babies had arrived, and in due course our children attended the local village school. By then we felt we were really accepted as part of the local community, a huge privilege.

The thirty years or so that we have devoted to the mill are just the blink of an eye in its 700-year history. A descendant of the Imbert family of millers, whose name is carved above the door, has traced its story back to 1292, when it was established by the Duke of Rodez (copies of the fascinating documents M. Imbert has unearthed can be seen at the mill). For centuries the mill played a pivotal role in the local community, first as the property of the local lord and then – until the Revolution – as a fiefdom of the priory at Ambialet on the Tarn, in its spectacular position that can still be visited today. Local people would bring grain and dried chestnuts to be milled into flour, fresh chestnuts to be crushed for oil, apples to be crushed for cider, and hessian and linen to be fulled and washed. While all this went on, clients would gather in the main room of the mill to chat by the fire, or fish for trout which the miller's wife would cook over the open fire, keeping other dishes warm in a pot-warmer beside the front door. Water was drawn from the spring beside the present site of the swimming pool, a source that was so pure it reputedly attracted people from miles around. Cider doubtless flowed freely, and all the latest gossip would be shared in the local patois. The miller also kept pigs and hens in the building that now houses the barbecue, and cows in a barn that was later demolished, leaving one of its doors as our dining table. When we first went to see the mill, our first impression of the big communal room was of the scent of woodsmoke and the feeling of conviviality that seemed to have soaked into the walls.
Thirty years later, 2019 was a landmark year for the mill, as we managed to secure a departmental decree recognising the historic nature of the site and granting it protection in perpetuity.
