The house is overly large for us but we enjoy the extra space. It was nice and cool on the mountain even though the outlying areas were very hot. We did a lot of hiking with our new pup. She enjoyed watching the birds, turkeys, and ground hogs.

We've rented numerous times in Smoky Mountain Retreat, and this was by far the best stocked kitchen in regards to appliances and cookware. Great views and we all enjoyed visits from the hummingbirds. Gorgeous luxury Cabin

This mountain cabin was a dream come true. The property was exquisite in decor as well as comfortable and functional. Multi floor design offers privacy and open floor plan for living/dining and kitchen with fireplace offers fosters warmth for community time. 2 balconies overlook the mountain landscape and allow for outdoor time wirhout the interference of the lical bear population. We had a fantastic time here!

It was a pleasure to wake up each morning to the beautiful vista overlooking Maggie Valley, and the Bear Hug was a perfect place to relax, enjoy time with friends, and to cook and enjoy delicious meals. It is also conveniently located for enjoying activities in the Waynesville/Maggie Valley area, including enjoying some of the great local eateries, shopping and playing golf. We also took great advantage of the proximity to other locales and enjoyed visits to Asheville, Dollywood and Highlands. The Bear Hug Inn was perfect for us.

The management company always responds promptly and effectively. There were recent upgrades that are great and I can’t wait to come back again! When I post pictures on Facebook, all of my friends ask me where are you and how can I rent this house? Be sure and check out the buttered biscuit, Maggie Valley restaurant, Joey’s pancake House, and Waynesville. It’s all good and fall is spectacular, so is spring.

Home away from home

We love the house, the view, the town. it's so much easier to rent for a week than it is to own. The house is always in perfect shape, management is helpful if there is a problem. Well equipped cabin with breath taking views

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our family Christmas vacation 2019. With 4 adults and 3 children, there was more than enough room for everyone. I was very impressed by the well equipped kitchen; whatever kitchen gadget or appliance you could ever need...this one had it! The check-in/check-out process was very simple, and the location was great. Only 10 minutes to the main part of town where you could find your grocery shopping and many other amenities. Snow tubing for the kids was also a very short 10 minute drive. Both of our families really enjoyed our stay, and had a very memorable Christmas vacation.

Amazing Views

This is a well-kept home that has all the modern conveniences coupled with amazing views. Fireplaces (one wood and one gas) are on both levels to keep you warm and cozy. (They will even have wood delivered for you.) However, there is electric heat and air if you prefer. You can easily rock away all your cares on the porch swing and rockers located on spacious decks on both levels. The multiple levels work well for families who need a place to rest with a central living area for meals. However, accessing the central area could be difficult for someone who has difficulty climbing stairs. Bear Hug Inn is conveniently located between two towns, numerous restaurants, and activities.The spacious kitchen is great for cooking for large groups. Communication with the office was super easy when needing to make a change or addressing questions. The staff was awesome. We are alteady planning our next trip back! See you soon!

Bear Hug Inn is fantastic

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The view is spectacular here. Easy access, driveway pretty level. Rooms are great. However, the furniture in main level living room not comfortable. The two chairs are like those in a doctor's waiting room or office with wood arms and low back; should be recliners or easy chairs with ottoman. the new sofa is rather firm. We prefer to stay on main level near the kitchen and for the deck and view,so would like more comfort. Please replace those chairs! Also need 2 more rocking chairs on deck, high top chairs difficult for older folks. The kitchen is great. The staff is the best, very helpful and friendly and accommodating.

Beautiful views but lacking in some important ways

This property had some real pluses, the best being the view. We also enjoyed the gated community with close proximity to shopping and the Expressway. It was also very tastefully furnished and decorated. When we first arrived, we really thought it was going to be perfect. But after a week, the flaws started showing. The biggest flaw was the lack of blinds or drapes on the windows. Only 1 bedroom had blinds, meaning those in the master and bunk room had no hope of sleeping in as the sun poured in the windows. The second draw back is there is no bedroom in the main floor. We didn’t fully appreciate that this is a three story property with only kitchen, living and laundry on the main floor. If you have problems with stairs this isn’t the home for you. The third problem was how dusty the master bedroom was. It’s not obviously dusty, but my husband’s sinuses became very painful, with a runny nose and watery eyes, every time we went upstairs to bed. Overall we enjoyed this community and would love to come back to this area, but would pick a different home next time.

Cool Mountain Getaway

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The property was very well-maintained and clean. We enjoyed the comfort of the covered porch, hummingbird feeders, and the screened in porch nearly every day. The temperature was 8 to 10° cooler than at the base of the mountain so when you check the temperature for Maggie Valley -8 to 10° is what you can expect. We appreciated the fact that the kitchen was well stocked with great pots and pans glasses. Everything you could possibly need to serve a nice meal.. also, it was very enjoyable to have the pantry have some staples to start a month with. We only have a few suggestions 1. Please buy some new candles with a good lighter. The power went off 4×1 week for several hours each time.. The two candles we located, were at the end of their lives, and the lighters, although there were three only one working, barely. 2. Directions on how to use each TV would be appreciated since they’re all different. 3. The two rugs in the upstairs master bathroom could use a good cleaning. The maintenance department from Smoky Mountain retreat was most efficient and helpful with a few minor fixes we needed while we were there. We would definitely recommend BearHug to our friends that vacation in Maggie Valley.We played golf at Laura Ridge, Maggie Valley, Lake, Junaluska, and Springdale, all lovely and affordable courses. We took nearly daily walks around Lake, Juanaluska and used Renu Active to work out for free at Waynesville Rec center. That’s similar to silver sneakers.For restaurants, we enjoyed the chef’s table, a few times, Frankies, Italian restaurant, Maggies galley, Golden rod wine and plant boutique for a glass of wine and a charcuterie plate. However, our new favorite that opened in the spring, Cataloochee Ranch was delicious, and the view was amazing. I also enjoyed the large book selection and read five or six novels while I was there.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: During our multi-week stay in the mountains of North Carolina the Bear Hug Inn was our home away from home. It was a pleasure to wake up each morning to the beautiful vista overlooking Maggie Valley, and the Bear Hug was a perfect place to relax, enjoy time with friends, and to cook and enjoy delicious meals. It is also conveniently located for enjoying activities in the Waynesville/Maggie Valley area, including enjoying some of the great local eateries, shopping and playing golf. We also took great advantage of the proximity to other locales and enjoyed visits to Asheville, Dollywood and Highlands. The Bear Hug Inn was perfect for us.

Bear Hug Inn

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We have rented from others but this surpassed our expectations. The home was immaculate, the view was exceptional, and check-in was never easier. We are already checking our calendars for a time to return!

We had been eyeing this property for vacation for a few years and it did not disappoint. Beautiful and comfortable with gorgeous views across the valley. Just be sure your family members can climb stairs as there is no bedroom on the main floor. Request child gates if traveling with young children. Bonus - property management office employees are amazing to interact with. We will definitely return!
