Headline is completely wrong. The property is not in Duck...also outside of Kill Devil Hills on Colington Island. The listing should be accurate. It takes a good 8-10 minutes to get out to the highway. The neighborhood is gated - but not sure why. It does have some nicer homes and some that could definitely use some work. This home falls into the latter category. It could be nice...with help. First, make some minor repairs. The screened in porch had a huge hole in the screen, so no use of the porch. Mosquito heaven. Couldn't really take advantage of that. A good scrubbing to get rid of the mildew stains and some nice seating would be a welcomed addition to spruce it up and make it more comfortable. The two Adirondack chairs need a refresh, as well. There is a table strangely shoved into the side.
Inside the home: Now, first let me say, we saw the photos - we knew it was dated and kitschy - kind of like going to Grandma's cabin or the Brady Bunch's house. All we really cared about was getting a place that was CLEAN, COMFORTABLE, and had enough beds for everyone. It was clean-ish...yes, freshly vaccumed, floors swept, surfaces clean, BUT again...a deep clean is majorly needed. There were years worth of cobwebs on the ceiling, in the corners, and covering the fake flower/wheat (?) arrangements and and grimy dust around the air vents. Yuck. The cabinets had who knows what splashed on them and the blinds in the kitchen were caked with grease.
Comfort - not at all. Yes, you could sit on the couches/chairs, but none of us slept well all week because the beds were like Medieval torture devices. Horrible. The worst bed I have ever had the displeasure of not sleeping on. Not to mention the pillows that were flat as floppy pancakes.
Perhaps, too, we should have cared a bit more about the fact that it was not updated because the stove was so old that it was difficult to read the dials. We had that same stove in my house growing up in the 80s...I kid you not.
Lastly, we’ll probably go elsewhere for our rental needs; never again with Stan White. The linen rental was an absolute joke. $140 for 1 set of towels each, & bed sheets with 1 pillowcase. Even if we wanted to pile up additional pillows to create a stack of floppy flat pancakes to perhaps equate one normal pillow, we could not. We will go elsewhere where what is needed is provided and they try to go the extra mile to impress. Not even salt & pepper in the house? 1 roll of TP? No hand soap? Come on
