About this property

Atmospheric 16th Century Merchants House

The Meeting House is one of those gorgeous places that makes you want to peek in through the window, the sort of place you dream of being able to live in. It’s big enough to sleep 10 people in five lovely spacious bedrooms with the Master Bedroom featuring a unique glass floor which overlooks the sitting room, which can be covered by a rug for privacy.

The Meeting House is aptly named because the house is very sociable. The house is perfect all year round. In the winter, grab a book, snuggle down and toast your toes by one of the wood-burning stoves and soak up the atmosphere of the historic rooms. In the summer, pour yourself a glass of something special and enjoy the sunshine in the stunning courtyard, complete with all the furniture you need to dine al fresco in style. The Meeting House won’t disappoint. You’ll fall in love with its charms and its situation – all the right ingredients for the perfect homestay.

Everything is on your doorstep from groceries (Ela’s artisan bakery; Dartmoor butchers; The Fish Deli; The Arc with organic foods. Entertain yourself at the Arts Centre in the evening after a lovely vegetarian/vegan supper in the foyer cooked by Rafiki’s restaurant. Or during the day take a picnic to the fabulous outdoor heated swimming pool and sunbathe on the generous lawns followed by a Creamo’s Craft ice cream just round the corner. In the summer St Lawrence’s chapel, a 600-year-old chantry is open to the public. Look out for the concerts and recitals which regularly take place. If you wish to relax and treat yourself have a beauty treatment; there are at least 3 beauty clinics/salons to choose from. Alternatively try out some yoga or take a picturesque walk in the local countryside.

Wonderful family break with friends
We stayed with friends and 3 young children between us. Adrian and Jenna were such kind and generous hosts. The house was perfect for our families - lots of space and so convenient for all the amenities Ashburton has to offer, as well as local excursions. We had a great stay!

Lovely home and great hosts!
We really enjoyed the accommodation. There were plenty of rooms for entertaining and lots of pots/pans/cutlery/utensils in the kitchen for cooking which many self-catered properties don't have. The bubble bath was lovely and the bath salts from Poland provided were a nice touch. The hosts (Adrian and Jenna) were very helpful and allowed us to check-in early which we appreciated with our 10-month old twins. The only thing we found to be a bit of a pain was the lack of parking outside the accommodation - we had to park in a long-stay car park which was a 5min walk away. This probably isn't a problem for about 95% of guests staying at the accommodation but when unpacking/packing for our twins and one dog it was a bit challenging, and we didn't realise this would be the case until check-in. Other than that, it was a really good stay!

Very special place
This is a beautiful property fitting with high quality antiques, finishes and equipment. A little quirky so you will find yourself doing lots of steps and occasionally a little lost until you get used to it. Weather wasnt great for our weekend reuntion of Uni friends but as the house is so big and well equiped it it the ideal spot to find a corner to sit in to read etc. Adrian was very attentive to us and is a very welcoming and kind host.
