Azalea Cottage is a classic downtown Durham bungalow - 2 airy corner bedrooms, a spacious living room and roomy galley kitchen on a quiet street in Old North Durham. You're surrounded by a lush garden, while being just 2 blocks from the bustling DIY District, and 5 more blocks to the center of downtown.
This highly walkable location also has off-street parking for 2 cars - but you won't need them!
Enjoy exploring the Bull City from this rare, fully appointed home!
This is a quiet and friendly neighborhood, where neighbors keep an eye out for each other. So don't be afraid to wave from the porch. (it's a southern thing, y'all!)
You're also pretty close to the action of downtown, so you may hear concerts at Motorco, fireworks from the Bulls, or even Batala Durham practicing in Central Park. You know - the sounds of a city!
Kids and families are welcome, but we do not have extra or special provisions for families - no crib, pack-n-play, outlet guards, etc - at this time.
We also welcome well-behaved dogs and cats! There is a per pet, per 2 week fee of $30. We do provide pet blankets and towels - please help us keep our furniture less furry by using them!
For our longer-term guests, there are basic cleaning products under the kitchen sink, a broom and swiffer in the utility room, and a vacuum in the hall closet. Feel free to make use of them to make your stay more comfortable!
We are always looking for ways to ease our guests stays, so don't hesitate to give us suggestions, or tell us what your favorite part of Azalea Cottage is!
Durham has instituted an indoor mask mandate for everyone, vaccinated or not. With several universities and major hospitals in the area, we tend not to mess around with this stuff! While the majority of Durham is vaccinated, you'll see most folks being quite cautious and respectful of other's health and space. We ask our guests to do the same!
I'm taking advantage of being a remote worker, and trying out living at the beach! My friend, Emily, who lives just a few blocks away, will be your primary host and contact during your visit.

Neighbors are friendly - so don't hesitate to say hello!

Rooms are spacious and thoughtfully appointed, with décor highlighting the honey-colored original wood floors. Natural light infuses the space - both bedrooms, the kitchen and living room are all corner rooms with plenty of windows! You'll feel right at home in this cozy space.
Start your day with coffee or tea (provided) on the front porch swing, before you take a stroll through the neighborhood or get on with your day. Working from home? You have 2 choices for your set up: the Rose Room desk overlooking the back yard, or the dining nook connecting the kitchen and living room, which does double duty as a second work space. High speed internet is consistent throughout the house.
The fully appointed and stocked kitchen is at your disposal to cook up a storm. Aside from coffee & tea, we provide some cooking basics like oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. And the refrigerator is plenty big for left overs, if you just want to order from Durham's LONG list of excellent restaurants.
Cap your evening by curling up with a book, or to binge your favorite series (Roku TV) on the cozy living room couch in the evening, before drifting off in your comfy queen beds.
The bedrooms have generous storage - and if that's not enough there's a large hall closet available for your use. The utility room is also at your disposal, as are the washer and drying rack.
Bringing your fur baby? The back yard is plenty big for running around (though it is NOT fully fenced), and there 2 dog parks and a trail within a half mile.
