About this property

Calling all history buffs and ghost-hunters! Welcome to Ghost House, your home away from home. Our historic house has been fully updated with modern amenities to ensure your stay is both comfortable and memorable. Learn about the fascinating history of the house and the Phoebus community, including its past as the infamous 'Sinful Phoebus'. Discover the stories of the first family to live in the home and their connection to the local area. And who knows, you may even have a ghostly encounter during your stay - we can't promise there are ghosts, but we can't promise there aren't any either.

You'll find a large variety of chef-owned, unique restaurants, authentic shops, trendy bookstores, galleries, salons, and a theater a block away. There's a chain grocery store a block away in the other direction. We're two miles from Buckrow Beach and one mile from downtown Hampton and Hampton University. Consider visiting Bluebird Gap Farm only four miles away.

Ghost House is at the first exit off of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) heading from Norfolk. The zoo in Norfolk is only 10 miles away.

This is a welcoming space for visitors of all ethnicities, backgrounds, lifestyles, and beliefs. Feel free to ask for recommendations. Your hosts can share a great spot for semi-private walks on the beach or recommend a best place for brunch.

We're working to make the house more accessible as part of our long-term plans and welcome suggestions. For now, there is no ramp and there are about 6 steps at all entrances. It is a two-story home. If stairs are cumbersome, the sofa folds into a very comfortable queen-sized bed, but all bedrooms are upstairs, as was typical of the time period.

Two of the bedrooms have queen-sized beds, and one has twin-sized bunk beds. The fourth bedroom hosts an office space as well as a chair that expands into a twin-sized bed. The sofa folds out into a very comfortable queen-sized bed.

Comfort and cleanliness are our top priority. All mattresses and pillows are new and of high quality, and there are extra pillows and blankets in the closet.

Cute House, Great Location

The Ghost House on Hope Street is in a great location. It's a relatively easy walk to Hampton University, the VA, as well as different restaurants in the Phoebus neighborhood. The house provides ample space for individuals to spread out and be comfortable. The front porch is great for morning coffee or if you just want to get fresh air. Val is super responsive and a courteous host. I would stay here again.

Short but Comfy Stay

If I had to give it a one word review: Cozy. You hear the wind blowing outside, and feel all safe and warm in this refurbished old house. It feels both modern and STURDY in that "they don't make em like this anymore" way. I feel bad for parking in the driveway, after the host said to park on the street, but she was really patient and kind to us about it. Would love to stay again and get to know Phoebus better - all the local history literature in the house really got my imagination going!
