This is a clean well managed boutique hotel that has an excellent restaurant. The grounds which are 10 minutes from the centre of Waterford are well manicured and leaves you with the feeling of a country home.

Room not ready, and restaurant terrible

The room was not ready at check in time, our beds were not the same height as each other's. There was a bus parked at our window all night. It was a terrible experience for us. We went to the restaurant and felt like we had been transported back to the early 90's. The food was edible and my drink was terrible. There were two big parties happening in the restaurant with us, that were loud. It was not a very nice place to eat. There was also a child playing notes on the piano that did not add to the atmosphere. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

Beautiful grounds

The Athenaeum is tucked away on beautiful grounds but minites from the centre of the town of Waterford. The staff was wonderful and the restaurant was good.

The hotel and staff were great.

The suite was lovely and very comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly knowledge about the area and what should not be missed down the coast. The restaurant was very nice and the food and service good

Smaller facility

We enjoyed the quieter atmosphere of this place, with beautiful yards and lovely dining area. It's a half hour walk to the downtown area which is something else we like -- being close but not always in the city centre. Staff was especially helpful in planning our trips around Waterford

Very nice hotel.

Very nice spacious suite. Nicely renovated bathroom. Just no airconditioning in the room. Food and service was excellent. Grounds were beautiful.

too far from town

Ok hotel but it was a taxi ride from train 8 and again into town. Not a good location without a car. Breakfast was continental only or pay 12 euro for fukk. comfy beds.

Needs some TLC

Location was great and in a quiet location. The housekeeping was very poor, floors not swept nor vacuumed when room was made up daily. Worn out beds, worn chairs and torn curtains need replacing. Linens are worn and stained. Breakfast service was adequate, staff was friendly and courteous.

Quiet retreat

Found the hotel more than adequate for our stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel is a little out of the way for folks visiting the area but as a "retreat", it's a perfect location.

Excellent stay and gorgeous surroundings

We enjoyed our stay at this historic hotel that had been spruced up. It is luxurious but homey at the same time. The staff were friendly and the grounds were beautiful. The room was pristine and well appointed. Thanks so much for such a great stay.

A quiet get away

We very much enjoyed our stay at Anthenaeum. The location was excellent to get into old Waterford or out of town. They had also placed signs on the main R711 to provide way finding which we appreciated. The room was spacious and clean and the staff we interacted with we're helpful and friendly. The dinner meals were excellent and the presentation of high quality. The coffee has been the best we've had thus far on our trip. We would certainly stay there again and we loved Waterford.

This was an absolutely beautiful property we stayed an extra night sadly it is closing at the end of the month to be turned into a nursing home I hope the guests that live there enjoy it it as much as we did
