Definitely a nice place and a step back in time. If you were missing Bubbe’s house minus the slipcovers you will love this place. Very spacious and nice layout. Lots of notes around the property. In addition there is a charcoal grill not mentioned in the amenities. Need to get a dish drainer even though there is a dishwasher. Overall pleasant experience.
It was so wonderful and the home is truly historic. I wish a few things were renewed, but on the other hand its just great and minor things don't really matter. Can't wait to stay again.
Check in was super easy and host was very responsive! The house still has much of its original furniture which gave it a cool historic feel. Lots of board games. Great location in Ellington, quiet and beautiful. Dryer was a little finicky but we figured it out!
Nice location but people drive very fast on street and it felt a little dangerous when exiting the driveway.
The house was built in the fifties and shows its age.
We loved our stay - the house is absolutely gorgeous, it's a beautifully preserved time capsule from a bygone era. The kitchen is well-equipped and we were very comfortable. One note: if you have a computer or something that needs a 3-pronged plug (grounded) to charge, make sure to bring a converter with you. We hope to stay in this house again soon, as it is close to friends and so very comfortable and clean.
This home is spacious and has all you need for a family to gather. It is a step back in time and while the furniture and decor is decades old, it harkens to a time when furniture was made to last generations. Instructions were clear and the host communicated promptly. There were several opportunities for maintenance that were communicated to the owner privately. We would happily stay there again
Everything about this home reminds you of the 50's. The small low furniture, décor, even the dishes and tea kettle are reminders of an era gone by.
The back yard is beautiful with lots of bushes in full bloom. Patio is great just wish there was a picnic table.
The house is huge with lots of space, beds are comfortable, twins are short for adults that are tall.
Needs some upgrading in some areas of this home but the location worked great for us.
Super clean home with plenty of space to spread out. Dated furniture was charming but functional. We had everything we needed for our stay. Did not use outside amenities as it was too chilly. Great quiet neighborhood. Would definitely stay again if we come back to the area.
We enjoyed our brief stay. Very large comfortable house. I felt like I was at my grandmother's house. My kids loved the feel of the house. Would stay again next time I visit family in Connecticut. Host was very friendly and accommodating.
This is a home preserved in a time bubble. It is vintage in almost all respects. Plenty of room to spread out. Furniture ranged from comfy to "oh don't want to sit on that!" It really is a beautiful home with a lovely backyard. BUT if you have members of your traveling party who want all the most modern conveniences, this is not the place for you. The TV gets limited channels. The wifi is adequate for most needs but reception upstairs was poor. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, which means there are no bars or restaurants or stores within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay and feel this home was good value for the money.
Staying at this house was such a unique experience. It was built in the 50’s and has been lovingly preserved. The kitchen was very well equipped with a stainless refrigerator/ freezer, double oven, dishwasher, cooktop, garbage disposal,
and a triple sink. Plenty of serving dishes
and cooking utensils. The appliances were older but in excellent condition. They were high end and built to last.
The Dining Room was furnished with a large oblong mahogany table and the room was bathed in the natural light streaming through the many windows. There were four huge Christmas Cacti in front of the windows , They were in full bloom what a glorious sight.
Rachel was great. She responded quickly
And addressed any concerns we had in a timely manner.
The house is a time capsule of a bygone era and a real tribute to Rachel’s family
(Whose photos are hanging on the walls)
I lived through this era being a child in the 50’s. It was nice to be back.
This property was perfect for our group of 9. It was dated, but exactly like the pictures showed. The kitchen was better equipped than other b&b's where we have stayed. The owner was very easy to work with. We would stay there again.
Perfect for our needs. Very elegant home with lots of character and history from host family heirlooms. Plenty of games for family entertainment. Beautiful grounds. Like home away from home.
The owner was extremely responsive to our needs and special requests.
We'll be back!
Unique and spacious, Eve's is a welcoming home away from home. Rachel was accommodating and easy to communicate with. The house far exceeded our expectations, it is the epitome of mid century style coziness.
Owner broke many VRBO rules and regulations to check into this property. She bullied me into accepting terms outside of VRBO in order to stay at the property. Owner is aggressive and threatening. Will never stay with her again.
This house was the perfect place for my sister, husband and I to stay while we were visiting family and friends in the area. We had all the conveniences of our own home (kitchen, living rooms, bedrooms, baths, lawn, patio and porch) in a beautiful country town filled with history friendly people and summer bounty. And to do so within at a modest price was a great find.

Very Cozy
We recently stayed at Eve's Country Retreat for the Thanksgiving Holiday. This is our second time staying at this home. Yes, it is an older home, but it is cozy and comfortable for my family of 6 and surely beats a hotel. We hosted dinner for 15 in the dining room which was very spacious. The kitchen is well equipped with the essentials too. Since our last stay in June 2012, there are new appliances (fridgerator, washer & dryer) which was great. Each of our children had their own bedrooms and space. One negative that I will comment on is that there were no living room curtains this time as it did have on our last stay. Being cold and 33 degrees outside, it would have been nice to shut the dark skies and cold out in the evening after the sun set. We are from Florida and not very fond of the colder temperatures. Maybe on our next stay the curtains will be there. The house did have heat which we used. I have to say that the communication with the owner, Rachel M., once again was excellent. She was always available to answers questions and wanted our stay to be a positive one (yes, it was). It's great customer service and warm hospitality that made us return to this home. Thank you Rachel again for a memorable stay and an awesome Thanksgiving holiday with my CT family in your home! Till the next time . . . Janice & Wayne Lehmann West Palm Beach, FL

Easter in Ellington
I knew the house was old and was prepared for that, however, it was not clean. Basically you are at the mercy of whomever stayed there prior to your visit. If they followed the rules and cleaned and vacuumed, you will find the house that way. I was up until well past 1:00 a.m. the night before our departure cleaning. Also, I was prepared for an older home, however, we we traveling with our Grandson and I was very thankful that he was not crawling yet because the carpets are so old that the nails from the track pins are all showing through around the perimeter of the rooms. Thankfully they are rusted through so you can see them and avoid them, however a child may not be that observant. The furniture is not only old but very uncomfortable in the spacious living room. The den area is far more comfortable. It was very convenient and the beds were also comfortable. There is one TV and it only got 3 stations (we were traveling with a teenager) and the wifi was horrible. I do feel however that the accommodations, for the size house and so on, were reflective of the price in most ways. The owner is pleasant and does not try to hide the fact that this place has stood still since the mid 1950's however, there are concerns if you are traveling with young children. There were 6 of us in our party and we had plenty of room. It was obviously a beautiful home at one point and whomever built it spared no expense. I read the reviews and value people taking the time to write them. I am trying to be fair and factual with mine. I tried to figure out how to give a 1/2 star but was unsuccessful. 2.5 would be my rating. I would probably not rent this home again which is unfortunate since we travel to CT a couple of times a year.

A wonderful place
We stayed here for over 2 months between selling our house and buying our new one. It is a wonderful property with tons of charm. The communication with Rachel, the owner, was fantastic. Any questions we had were answered quickly. She was extraordinarily accommodating and flexible as our closing date was changed multiple times.
Our family of 5 had plenty of room and everything we needed was there for us, it was just perfect. Rachel is a wonderful host, we made a friend through this process.

Quiet getaway in unique and beautiful home
My husband and I stayed at Eve's Country Retreat this past weekend and had a lovely time. It is clean, well-kept and very charming. There are beautiful details in the house that are unlike any other place I have seen, and it is very spacious. There is a charming fireplace and a lot of space for large groups. The owner was very easy to communicate with and was very accommodating. We would definitely stay again!
