Externally is where the fun starts. The cottage itself has two outside areas for relaxation. To the front, a lovely paved area is perfect to sit in the sunshine in the Adirondack steamer chairs facing out towards the horses in the paddock. It’s not unusual to catch a glimpse of a passing peacock wandering the grounds. Use of a barbecue means that you can step straight out onto the patio and rustle up your food al fresco. To the side of the property is a private, raised, terrace garden, again complete with garden furniture for your relaxation.
Available on request and on-site at the farm is the most amazing entertainment space which the owner fondly calls the barbecue shed! Shed it certainly isn’t, as step inside and you will find that it caters for your every party need! In the summertime the external shutters on this ranch style building drop down to bring the outside in. A large bar area with stools sits in the corner, a huge table takes centre place, a purpose built barbecue and pizza oven, and dartboard for your enjoyment. On the green area outside, the owners provide a wide selection of games, perfect to keep everyone entertained.
For the walking and cycling enthusiasts, you are simply on the cusp of the Yorkshire Dales with all its amazing walks and ever popular cycle routes. Beautiful meadowland leads down from the cottage to Bedale Beck, a perfect picnic spot on a fine summer’s day. In order to reach the beck you must first cross the railway line, and it is from here that you can experience the fabulous sight of the Wensleydale Railway, with their beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages as they make their way through some of Yorkshire’s finest countryside.
Stabling facilities and a paddock are available on request within the farm grounds, with bridleways to ride out on literally from the doorstep. It is just a 10-minute walk to the historic market town of Bedale with with its selection of shops, pubs, restaurants and Wensleydale railway station. All in all, this stylish little conversion has an extremely big heart and offers the opportunity for a most wonderful and memorable stay. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Beautiful accommodation in excellent location
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Bren's Barn. Arriving on a cold, wet Friday evening in February, we walked into a bright, warm, immaculately clean and beautifully presented barn conversion. It has been tastefully furnished with comfortable sofas and even an electric reclining armchair and we found the mattress on the double bed extremely comfy too - something we're very fussy about! The kitchen was probably the best equipped we've come across in many years of renting holiday cottages, and the owners clearly take note of the comments left by visiting guests to continually improve an already excellent home from home. We enjoyed making use of the Amazon device for background music to the meals we cooked and ate at home. The barn itself is perfectly located, next to the owners' home, within their small farm but just a short walk from the charming town of Bedale where there are good local shops including baker, greengrocer and butchers and also a decent sized Co-op. We also found a couple of lovely eateries in the Sprouted Kitchen and Tom and Nellie's, and there were a number of pubs which looked nice but we didn't try on this occasion. The owners were friendly and available for help if we needed it but didn't intrude on any way. Nick kindly offered to set the "party barn" up for us if we wanted it one evening, with the fire going etc and although we didn't make use of that I'm sure it would have been very enjoyable. We loved seeing their collection of animals each day - chickens, peacocks and kittens all wanted to inspect the barn for themselves and the sheep and goats kept an eye on us from their field just beyond the barn windows! Further afield, the barn is perfectly located for all kinds of activities in North Yorkshire. The East coast is near enough for a day trip, fascinating Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal are not far away and Harrogate for the Turkish Baths, Betty's and RHS Harlow Carr is also near enough for a thoroughly relaxing day out (or good shopping!) There was so much that we didn't manage to do on this holiday - brewery tours and a gin distillery in Masham, fell walks in the Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors, for instance, that we'll just have to go back, and would be delighted to!

Had a really lovely stay at Brens Barn.
Had a really lovely stay at Brens Barn. The cottage was in a perfect and quiet location situated with easy access to the local amenities in Beadale and not far from the A1 for days out. The cottage was beautifully appointed and well equipped, full of homely touches. We definitely recommend a stay at Brenns Barn and would love to return sometime soon.
