We rented both the Maine House and the Country House next door for our small wedding weekend! Our family and close friends all had space to stay. The rain held off for us to do our ceremony out on the lawn, and then we went inside for dinner and dancing in the big room. It was perfect. The house has its quirks and it’s definitely a big old summer camp that could use a little maintenance, but it turned out really cute and exactly what we needed.
Wonderful location for family reunion. We had 29 people from age 6-73. The best part was the outside lawn and beach. The water was perfect for all our kids. Lots of uneven/steps in the home for our older family members. But what would be expected for camp.
We had a group of 20 with another 6 joining us from the cottage. The scenic lakeside location with direct access from lawn to water was phenomenal. The lake water was exceptionally clean and the sound of loons peaceful. The extensive accommodations including numerous bedrooms and bed space as well as large, well-equipped kitchen, gave us good sleeping options and ease of cooking. The large number of bathrooms was a definite plus. Having the wrap-around porch with handsome dining tables overlooking the lake was a particularly nice feature. Outdoors, the grills and water equipment came in very handy. Communication with host before and during stay was prompt and effective.
This lake house won our hearts. We absolutely loved it for our large friends gathering. Having a large dining table with awesome lake view for all of us to eat meals was amazing!!! Host is very responsive and helped with any questions arises.
Property easily housed our family reunion of 30 people. House is bigger than the pictures indicate. The great room is spectacular. Thre ground are very large with room for our group to spread out with great, direct access to the water.
Overall a large space for a big group that worked well for us - had some small issues that the owner was able to deal with.Would recommend that if staying in winter, know that the downstairs sleeping space can be quite drafty (there were plenty of extra blankets available) - keeping all the interior doors open downstairs will help to keep the warm air in the sleeping space.
Our church spent Easter weekend here and we loved it! We were a large group (22 adults and 15 children) in this house but felt like we had enough room. Favorite feature was the wrap around porch with dining table and large windows over looking the lake. The kitchen is well stocked. The host was very responsive. I would highly recommend.
Just a note if you’re bringing children- there’s a nice amount of children’s books and a few games, but no toys. There is one high chair and 2 pack and plays.
We love staying here! We had been coming up since I was a baby and we are a very large family that has only grown more and this house has everything. The lake access is un-matched, tons of canoes and paddles and life vests for fun on the water. Huge fire pit is the center of most of our shindig. New picnic tables since the last time we came up, also some new furniture, bedding, and some other room updates, this post could use some updated pictures for accuracy, but in a positive way! So many bathrooms, perfect for a huge gathering of people and not something you find everywhere. The large living room with wrap around table area is great if you have a rainy day for everyone to be together inside but not on top of each other. Some things could use a little TLC, but it looks like they are doing that as they can and we're happy to see it! We love The Maine House!

Large space with heat issues
House was huge. Layout is a bit strange and things are generally dated. We had some major heating issues. The wraparound porch with dining tables was completely unusable - you can see your breath in there. The great room and kitchen were also frigid until we used the stove to boil water and oven on with doors open to heat it up. Owners provided 1 space heater on the first day and brought a 2nd one the next day but it was not enough to heat great room and kitchen. I'm sure this house is great in the summer with lakeside views. Host was always quick to respond though. However, heating solutions just was not up to par given the winter cold.
We just rented the Maine House with 25 family members. We had the most amazing week. The house was plenty big enough for us all and the wrap around porch was fantastic for family dinners and games and activities. On any evening we could have groups playing games, doing puzzles, and doing art activities. The property was right on the lake. You could swim and kayak from the property and plenty of room in the yard for lawn games. Lots of green space and plenty of sun and shade spots. The only negative heard all week was that the mattresses were older and not that comfortable. I would recommend you bring memory foam toppers. Also there is no tub for children so you should plan to bring a portable pool/tub for Baths. But the pros way outweighed the cons. I highly recommend this home. This property was loved by all and we will be back.!

The only thing I can figure is that this used to be a wonderful place which has since fallen in a state of disrepair and neglect. It was dirty with broken furniture and very worn bedding. Upon arrival the first thing we did was call back the cleaning service and re-wash (assuming they washed anything) all of the linens. Only two or three of the bedrooms felt inhabitable and the basement wasn't fit for anyone. The outside was nice - providing the public access area next to it wasn't in use. This property also shares the lakefront with two other houses but thankfully we were the only ones around. the kitchen was well equipped but showing signs of neglect. The eating area was nice too. Grass was long and needed cut which never was during the whole week. That didn't help the mosquito situation. We affectionately referred to it as "the frat house". We won't be back.

The extent of this review of The Maine House came as a surprise to me, since we immediately addressed the linen and cleaning issues within the first hour of their arrival.
I must say upfront that we had an unfortunate circumstance where my two local housekeepers, who had been with me for over 10 years, had suddenly suffered extreme health issues. One died and the other was hospitalized a couple weeks prior to this family’s arrival. That’s not a justification for some missed housekeeping issues but it is a fact. Admittedly, the new housekeeping staff were unfamiliar with the routine and did miss some things but, we took care of it immediately.
That said, after our initial prompt response, this unhappy posting 2 months later, was the first I’d heard of any additional complaints. Their problems with broken furniture, kitchen showing signs of neglect, uninhabited ground floor level bedrooms (which they used,) uncut grass and an unruly “mosquito” situation, seem to be rooted more in unfamiliar personal expectations than fact.
Any of these problems could have, and would have been addressed if I’d know about them…except for possibly the “mosquito” situation, which I have no control over but, would have provided insect repellent had they asked.
Of note: the next group that stayed at The Maine House the following week returned our feedback evaluation form after their stay, with 5 “excellents” and 2 “goods” and no other issues. And, they said “We had a great time! And have already recommended to several friends.”
In closing, if a guest calls during their stay with a problem or complaint, I try to solve it immediately - or come up with a mutually agreeable solution. I’ve been in the hospitality business for over 35 years and I understand the value of a happy guest. To make such a complaint two months later, without ever asking the owner, me, to address any of these issues while they were here, is questionable.
I take great pride in the way I run my business. I sincerely hope any new prospective guests will continue to trust us as the ten’s of 1000’s of people before them have.
Sincerely,
Timothy Salvesen,
We all loved the trip! The house was huge. The pictures did not do justice of just how big it is. The kids played hide and seek the first couple days in it. Beds were comfy no one in our group complained. The three refrigerators, three ovens and three dishwashers were amazing. We packed the fridges with our group of 16 easily haha. Plenty of seating in the great room for the one rainy night we had that we all plalyed games. That was so much fun! There was firewood and kindling already there in surplus so we had fires three nights in a row with plenty of seating for us around the fire. The pond is beautiful with a huge lawn area many picnic tables.
The only thing that we had a problem with was that the listing did not clearly explain that the Main House has the dock on the left all to itself but the dock on the right the house next door has access to use along with the shed full of life jackets, the canoes and kayaks. So on day two when we were all outside some strange man walked over to our fire pit area to introduce himself and said him and his hiking buddies were going to use the right dock and swim. I initially told him that I didnt think that was correct and perhaps he had use of the public dock (the third one down) as the dock on the right is only 30 feet from the fire pit so we would be hanging out with strangers when we thought that we had a private booking for five families all related that hadn't vacationed together in 30 years. I was very disappointed with that
I came to this house with a group of friends to take a break from Boston city life and to do some leaf peeping. We all had a wonderful stay! The house is expansive and has a breathtaking lake view. The host is very responsive and helpful. Many hiking options nearby.
This place was perfect for our large group of families. Truthfully we spent almost all of our time outside and why wouldn’t you, with two docks, a beautiful yard and just a ton of frontage to the pond. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend to any large group.
