Peaceful country stay with fresh chicken eggs and kitty snuggles!
Come visit Walnut Springs and enjoy some peace and quiet in our small town retreat, with an amazing great room upstairs and a beautiful wraparound porch and back deck. Watch a Bosque county sunset on the back porch swings, and a hammock stand to enjoy your favorite book. Perfect for watching sunsets and seeing the wildlife stroll across the back 10 acres. Plan to have a bonfire in the 8 foot fire pit while you play a horseshoe tournament on our Horseshoe pits. Glen Rose is only 15 minutes away, so it's close enough to get in the mix, but far enough to enjoy the serenity of the country life. There are several delicious new and old restaurants, a few small grocery stores, a liquor store, gas station a half mile up the road in town, so you can get your creature comforts! We enjoy old stuff, vintage cars, and motorcycles, and we hope you can pick out the vintage touches throughout the house!! The bedrooms have been custom designed, and include the Americana room, and the Studio room. The kitchen table is an old motorcycle topped with a glass table top, and the kitchen island was constructed from bona-fide barn tin off of an old barn on the Chisholm Trail in Fort Worth, Texas! We hope you enjoy the little details as much as we enjoyed designing it! There are also 2 vintage campers on-site for an additional fee! Each of them sleeps 2 comfortably, and one of them has a pull-out futon for a 3rd person. If you've got a larger group you'd like to host, reach out and let's put your retreat together! There is an apartment built into a shipping container behind the pavilion in the back pasture where we live, and we are available for anything our renters may need, but we will not be in or around the house while it is rented. It is your space while you are here.

Absolutely gorgeous! The pictures don’t even come close to showing how huge and beautiful this property is, attention to every detail, cleanliness, organization, peacefulness, uniqueness, kindness of the hosts, etc. I could go on and on, but just trust me, this is an absolute gem! We will definitely be back!
The hosts were very accommodating! Fresh bread, butter, and a dozen eggs were waiting for us when we arrived. The decor is adorably eclectic and spectacularly quirky! My kids loved the swings and games. The commute to Dinosaur SP was perfect. We will be back!
We had a great time!!We really enjoyed the property!!Everything was down to the fresh smelling linens! Julia and Lisa are wonderful! We will always recommend! Looking forward to another stay!

The house and space were absolutely amazing! The house is decorated in the cutest way. The whole house is stocked extremely well and there was nothing we felt was missing.
We stayed at Tailgate Ranch while we explored the area around Glen Rose. The accommodations were fabulous and I would totally stay here again. It is in the perfect location. The sunsets on the back porch were breathtakingly beautiful.
We really enjoyed this property. It's a fun place with a great, quiet location but close to activities. Communication with the owner was fantastic! Highly recommend!
Took a short trip with my boyfriend for his birthday and all he asked for was a relaxing get away… and this was it! We enjoyed the peace and quiet and had everything we needed and more. Would definitely come back!
We had a great time this week. The grandkids had plenty of room to run around and they enjoyed the wide open space. The house was charming. You can tell that the owner really wants people to feel welcome. Plus fresh eggs! What more can you ask for. I completely recommend this property.
The ranch supplied a ton of activities to keep us occupied such as board games and music players. The massive property gave us a ton of space to let our dog run around. The top deck was very nice to enjoy the sunset with dinner. Julia was very prompt with replies and communication with us. I would certainly stay again!
My girls, ages 6 and 7 had such a wonderful getaway. House was so cute, with so many eclectic touches. We loved the huge property, bonfires, and nothing but the sound of crickets each night. Super close to Glen Rose, so we spent our days exploring parks, museums and the surrounding areas, and our evenings relaxing and watching the beautiful sunsets. Property owners were lovely, and incredibly kind to my children, allowing them to play with their dogs and to see their chicken coup. We loved everything about this vacation and hope to be back again next year!
The property was great to stay at for a weekend trip. Sadly it was raining so we didnt get to use the hammock, the fire pit, or the horseshoe game outside. But with the number of board games Julia has it is easy to keep busy inside too. The house is super cute with lots of vintage touches. She has directions and labels and has thought of all the questions you could ask. Very thoughtful. The only issue we had was orginally the posting stated there was a hot tub which there is not. It was a big reason we booked but turned out we had a great time without it. The fresh eggs were a cute touch, thanks!
There were 3 of us in our party: myself, my mom, and teenage son. We were in the area for a family reunion. While we were not at the place for very long, it was enjoyable while we were there. The host has a funky but classy decor going throughout the home. I enjoyed looking at everything. It is obvious that she has recently remodeled the house since it has all the modern conveniences. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. I felt safe where the home was located and it was easy to find. There are only 2 bedrooms with Queen beds which were great for my mom and myself. My son slept on the couch in the living room. That was not the best situation based on the type of furniture that is in there. He would have been more comfortable if I had brought an air mattress for him. The way the house is laid out, the bedrooms are downstairs and the kitchen/living room is upstairs. There is a full bath downstairs that is located between both rooms (which I loved!). There is, also, another full bath upstairs. Both bathrooms are walk-in showers only which worked fine for us. Overall, great stay and I would definitely stay here again if back in the area.

Nice and peaceful in the Country, Loving the outdoors and Nature
Loved being out in the country for the weekend, If you and your family want to leave the city life for a few days and enjoy the country life and enjoy beautiful drives threw the top of the Hill Country then this is the place for you. Driving through these small towns of Walnut Springs, Glen Rose and Meridian has such a beautiful landscape. Sitting out on the porch watching the sunset with no obstructions just relaxes the mind and soul. Waiting for the sunrise in the morning and being greeted by the Mocking bird, well you know your in Texas. Viv and I loved the wrap a round porch and sitting out and just relaxing as the wind blows and sitting upstairs on the large balcony and the view is as far as the eyes can see. Breathtaking views relax the soul and renewed out batteries. Large kitchen for those that want to cook but we wanted to check the eats in the small town and so we stopped by Blackie's Bait Shop and had pizza and pie and the service was Great. Our little fur baby Lucy enjoyed going up and down the stairs and listening to the sounds of the country. If your wanting to escape the city for a day or a few days then you need to check this place out. Julia one of the owners of The Tailgate Ranch will not steer you wrong. Great communications and so eager to please with no haskel. 5 Stars Glen and Vivian Seago & Lucy

Tailgate Ranch has an ideal location for traveling the northwest Texas area around Walnut Springs. We traveled to Glen Rose (less than 15 miles), over to Stephenville, up to Mineral Wells, and back to Walnut Springs. We found several state parks in which to hike and explore as well as parks within Glen Rose and Miineral Wells where we could enjoy a walk with the dogs. The house and area of Tailgate Ranch itself was perfect for us to be able to enjoy the country but have all the comfort of a lovely and well decorated home with what I would call a "biker/country/patriot" kind of vibe. We got to catch one sunset but had to deal with lots of rain (May is Texas rainiest month). However, that is what contributed to the beauty of the wildflowers everywhere (Indian Blanket galore!) and the green of trees and fields! It was gorgeous. We could not have asked for a more well stocked kitchen for cooking, large fridge, dishwasher etc. It is all there. Having the living room upstairs was a bit different for us. The view was very worth the climb. Loved the motorcycle dining table! There is a wonderful outdoor balcony, but the rain kept us inside mostly. The living area with large screen TV kept us entertained when we were not out exploring. A nice cozy couch to cuddle up on is there as well. We really enjoyed the cool breezes out on the wrap around porch and it gave a nice spot to sit even with the rain. Julia was excellent in her communication and a gracious host.
Het huis van Julia is heerlijk om er een paar dagen door te brengen. Is van alle gemakken voorzien. De inrichting is verbluffend.
Wwl grote teleurstelling over onze hostJulia. Zij reageert niet op mijn bericht en komt, zonder dat wij aanwezig waren, in het door ons gehuurde huis. Ook

I am sorry you were disappointed in my communication. I sent 4 messages in a row with no response, and the only message I received from Jeanne was responding to my asking if everything was going well (she said everything was fine). I'd assume Jeanne didn't have service and was attempting to send messages through the app, that may not have gone through? I always respond to messages from my guests.
I'm in Montana, so it's impossible that I would've been at the house when they weren't there. I've also checked the cameras, and nobody was in the home when Jeanne was not there. If she had a concern or a question, she definitely could've reached out and I would've let her know this.
We had a great time at this great venu!! The house was very clean with all the little details checked. We definitely plan to return when we will have more time at the house to enjoy all it has to offer!! Thank you Julia for the great stay!
Welcome! I'm Julia, and the Tailgate Ranch is my passion project and dream come true! I love vintage everything, and refuse to be ordinary. I love hosting people who love the country and the Tailgate Ranch for all it's glory!
Why they chose this property
We share a passion for old vintage and rusty stuff – from cars to fixtures to furniture, and we’ve had a BLAST incorporating that love into our ranch. We want you to find something you didn’t notice before on every visit to the Tailgate! We’ve fallen in love with the Chalk Mountain Loop, Walnut Springs’ sweet community vibe, and the SUNSETS! We hope you will too!
What makes this property unique
The Tailgate provides a location that is perfect for a getaway from DFW, without the long haul required by most secluded retreats! It's quiet at night, and you can explore the area as much as you'd like during the day! We are only 15-30 minutes from The Greenwood Saloon, Horny Toads, and Loco Coyote, and about a minute from Blackie's Bait Shop (awesome little bar/restaurant with good people!), the Rattlesnake Roadhouse, and Texas Tavern. Enjoy!
