Choose your view from Gander's Down two porches of soft Prairie land pastures with cattle and horses grazing or watch the windmill turn as he sun sets while you sip your wine. Gander's Down cottage is an upscale, natural, romantic get-a-way experience.
Ganders Down amenities include a queen size bed with luxurious linens, DVD player with movie collection to watch classic and latest flicks on a large flat screen TV.

Gander's Cottage

The cottage is well kept, clean, comfortable for a couple and includes everything you could possibly need. The ranch property where it is located is quite nice and we enjoyed the visits from the various ranch pets each day. Kathryn is a wonderful host. We look forward to staying there again.

Beautiful cottage with lots of friendly animals!

The photos don't do this place justice. Kathryn was very accommodating and friendly and happy to chat about the ranch, but also gave me space and privacy. The scenery and animals were wonderful! The cottage itself is beautiful and comfortable and has everything you need. Would love to come back!

Perfect for a quick getaway from the city life.

This cottage was exactly what we were looking for. We had planned a quiet weekend to fish at Fayett County Reservoir. The Gander's Down Ranch Cottage was clean, quiet and nicely decorated. Plenty of coffee supplies for mornings on the front porch. We enjoyed fishing in thier stocked pond and watching all of the farm animals on the ranch. The owners were helpful with information about the town and places to dine. We throughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate thier hospitality. Would recommend this place for a nice relaxing stay.

Taste of the past

This was an idyllic stay for my husband and I. The cottage is built in the Victorian style of the 1900s but is reasonably new and very cute. We love the free feeling of being in acres of land weather it is flat or hilly. The animals were wonderful to engage with and be around as animals generally are. Kathryn was an ideal hostess. Very organized and informative and kind. We enjoyed our stay and are now continuing on in Flatonia with one of her other rentals. Flatonia is a hidden gem.

OurTexas weekend

We had a wonderful time. The cottage was a perfect secluded spot. It was great to see all of the animals and loved our first impression as we drove in the front gate and the beautiful bluebonnets streached out in front of us. It was warem and welcoming! Thank you for having a clean and well equipped cabin. We were gretted Tabby on Friday evening an Saturday morning had to chase off a coyote after him and a orange cat. Glad they are ok.

GREAT stay!

We've stayed at HomeAways out in the country several times and we accept that staying in the country sometimes means bugs, more "rudimentary" accommodations, brush and tall grass... but this place was beautiful! The ranch is amazingly manicured and decorated outdoors, the cottage is clean, maintained and CUTE. The bathroom and bed were plenty big enough, the temperature comfortable, the furnishings darling, not a speck of dust. And the animals were so entertaining for us - llamas, horses, cattle, geese, peacocks - all could be watched from the front porch. They sometimes came up to the fence for a visit (or looking for an apple!) :) The owner is a GREAT host - she also has a gorgeous hotel in town, which we felt welcome at too when we stopped by. She invited us to feed the birds and horses and to roam around the gorgeous ranch. Definitely will stay again and recommend you do to!

Neat little cottage on a beautiful ranch property!

We have driven through this area many times before, and we’ve always thought the scenery was lovely, so for our anniversary we decided to stay here. The ranch is really beautiful and secluded. Karen met us here and guided us to the cottage. The best things about this cottage are the porches and the bed. The porches offer a beautiful panaramic view both directions. You can watch the cattle, horses, and llamas graze in this beautiful pastoral setting. You can also walk freely around the ranch which has a gently rolling landscape and some huge old oak trees. The bed is exceedingly comfortable with its wonderful feather comforter. Our stay was at the end of December and it got really cold one night (we forgot to turn on the heater). But we stayed amazingly warm under the comforter. It was very comfortable and really conducive for relaxing. Karen gave us a great map showing us locations of places to eat and other local attractions. You don’t want to miss seeing the painted churches! They are amazing and the back road drives to get to them are beautiful. We were really impressed with Flatonia. It is really a charming little town and the people are very friendly. One thing you need to be aware of at the cottage is that there is no kitchenette or any way to prepare meals other than a small refrigerator and a microwave and a coffee maker. If you want breakfast here you will need to bring something that you can warm in a microwave. A toaster would be nice. But that’s a minor thing. Prepare yourself for a great relaxing time on this beautiful secluded property!

I am so happy you enjoyed your stay! Yes the setting is quite relaxing and feather comforter fun to snuggle under! I had years ago cooked breakfast for guests at the main farm house so when we built that little cottage we didn't see a need to add a kitchen. I do have a second cottage called Goslings Nest Cottage , also listed with VRBO about 1/4 mile down the dirt road but you cant see it from your cottage. That cottage does have a full kitchen and also an outside grill. I will buy a toaster for Ganders Down cottage and that's a great idea! I am thankful you had such a nice time and took time out to share with others. I hope to see you again ! Very Sincerely, Kathryn

Everything I could have wished for

The cottage was absolutely adorable and comfortable. My husband and I never left! It was great to get away, hang out, nap:), and of course enjoy time with all the animals!! It was fun watching the horses and cattle. One of the horses walked right up to me, she was super sweet. Kathryn was a terrific host and she made sure we were comfortable. We went out exploring and taking tons of pictures of the various birds they have. She gave me lettuce to feed them and they absolutely devoured it. There were turkeys, hens, rooster, geese, swans, peacocks, bunnies, doves, cats and a couple of dogs. I even used the wooden swing and pretended to be a kid for a little while. This was a much needed reprieve from the usual work routine; life has been so hectic. At night we saw the milky way and my husband enjoyed his astrophotography. We WILL return for a fall/winter trip!

Charming and perfect for what we needed

Adorable Bed and Breakfast

The Olle hotel is a real gem in the little town of Flatonia. The owner, Kathryn , went out of her way to accommodate us with an amazing price. It’s spotlessly clean with lovely decorated rooms. The breakfast was big and delicious. I highly recommend staying here.
