About this property

Ribble Cottage in The Ribble Valley, Whalley, Lancashire - Sleeps 4

Ribble Cottage is a luxury retreat adjoining Hodder Cottage that sleeps up to four guests across two bedrooms.

Inside, the warm and welcoming open plan layout is furnished with modern comforts including zone-controlled underfloor heating.

The two bedrooms – one twin and one double – are each equipped with en-suites – one with a half bath and overhead shower, and the other with a double shower. There is also a sofa bed in the living room to accommodate extra guests. A modern kitchen houses plenty of appliances, including a washer/dryer, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Keen cooks can take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen and the extendable dining table that comfortably seats six. A lounge area provides a place for relaxation, while the WiFi and flat screen TV fitted with Freeview, and DVD player will keep guests entertained. All the family can make themselves at home here.

Outside, Ribble overlooks Oakdean’s private gardens. Bi-folding doors open onto a peaceful patio with a view of the surrounding woodland. In summer months, the barbecue and outside dining area make this an idyllic spot for sunny afternoons and balmy evenings.

This cottage has been awarded 5* for Self Catering Accommodation by Visit England.

There’s something for everyone in the surrounding area. From horse riding on heather-clad hillsides, to wild winding climbs, and tempting trails for cyclists of all abilities - both on and off-road. Dean Clough reservoir and the beautiful nearby pine forests are practically on our doorstep. Pendle Hill, Stonyhurst, Marles Wood to Dinckley Bridge, Longridge Fell, Three Rivers, Dunsop Bridge and The Tolkien Trail are a just few of the many walks nearby.

For days out by car, The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the seaside are all less than an hour away.

We are perfectly situated for guests coming further afield as we’re close to Junction 31 of the M6 with very good transport links. Preston is a 30 min drive away where direct trains go to London (2 hrs), to Glasgow (2 hrs) and to Edinburgh (2 hrs 30 mins). Described as Lancashire and Yorkshire’s hub into and out of the North, Manchester and Leeds are approx 1 hr drive away and both cities have international airports.

Relaxing Break
We had a very relaxing break with my elderly parents-in-law. The bungalow was perfect for my father-in-law who has poor mobility. We really appreciated the little extra touches - fresh flowers, tea, coffee, biscuits, milk and fresh orange juice. Excellent quality throughout the property and we would absolutely recommend Oakdean Cottages as a base to explore the Pendle locality.

Perfect family break
This property worked brilliantly for us , taking a break with my elderly Mum. Immaculately clean and perfectly arranged for her and us! She loved the peaceful location with views of garden and trees and we had a lovely time exploring the beautiful countryside, pretty villages and excellent hostelries! Ian and Sue were brilliant hosts, nothing was too much trouble and they responded to all our extra requests for equipment etc., swiftly and with good cheer. All in all a lovely stay and I would certainly recommend Oakdean Cottages.

Why they chose this property

Ribble Cottage is situated in the small rural village of Langho, in serene countryside with stunning views of the Ribble Valley which is set in the official Forest of Bowland AONB. A setting that has inspired many - including J.R.R. Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

There are more than 40 idyllic villages surrounding Langho, the nearest of which is Whalley; just a 5 min drive or 30 min walk. Along with a beautiful Abbey, the Grade II listed Whalley Viaduct (the largest in Lancashire), shops, a deli, and a bakery, there are pubs, bars and restaurants to suit every appetite.

The charming market town of Clitheroe is only a 15 min drive away and offers a large choice of supermarkets, independent shops, places to eat, and a beautiful park and playground in the grounds of the iconic medieval Castle.

Whether you're exploring wild woodlands and ancient castles, or visiting some of the many award-winning restaurants nearby, Ribble Cottage is the perfect home from home.  This cottage has been awarded 5* for Self Catering Accommodation by Visit England.
