About this property
Water Front post and beam guest house "Thyme & Tide", on Muscongus Bay.
Located on four acres at the end of a private road and at the end of Dutch Neck peninsula, Thyme & Tide offers privacy and quiet without being remote. A deep-water dock and float provide water access for swimming, kayaking, or boating and the underwater light attracts fish and seals after dark. Seals, Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Cranes, Herons, and more are frequent visitors.
We recently updated the upstairs living area, changing out some of the furniture and revising the layout. Take a look at the new pics to see what's changed. We also removed the TV from the upstairs (there's still one downstairs) and now only do streaming. We now offer oysters fresh from the bay along with the lobsters.
Thyme & Tide is ideally suited for one or two couples or a small family with a King sized bed in the master, Queen in the ground floor Spa room, and two twins in the sleeping loft accessed by a ships ladder. This is a four season home with radiant heat on both floors and a Jotul gas fireplace in the second floor living room for added comfort. And on those few days in August when it gets really warm we've added a portable AC unit in the MBR, even though it only gets used 2-3 times a year.
The ground floor has 10' ceilings and cedar paneling complimenting the Douglas Fir Post and Beam frame. The 14'X36' family room runs the length of the house and has windows facing the water, seating area, and glass top dining table. The ground floor bedroom (aka the spa room) has a queen-sized bed and en-suite bath including a walk-in glass tile shower, cathedral ceiling, ceiling fan, screened in porch, and lots of windows. It even includes a wood fired sauna. See the photos for more details. There is also a bath with shower off the back entry hallway.
Upstairs are the living quarters with an open living/dining/kitchen area and 17' cathedral ceilings. The master bedroom and bath with shower are located at one end with the sleeping loft over. The bath has a Bosch washer and dryer in addition to the fully tiled oversized shower and large vanity. The upstairs also has a private (no ground access) wrap-around deck with a retractable sun awning on the east side to provide morning shade and 4 Adirondak chairs. The lower deck also has a few Adirondack chairs, a hanging swing, picnic table, and Weber gas grille.
The kitchen is well equipped with a Thermidor gas stove, under counter Sub-Zero refrigerators, Keurig/drip or K-cup combo coffee maker, microwave, and toaster oven. Fully stocked with linens, towels, silverware, dishes, glasses, PT, and utensils.
There is a TV downstairs in the family room with Apple TV and dedicated Internet service.
On the water we have a 60' pier with a 14'X24' float and a separate 8'X20' float for boat storage. We keep a pair of Adirondack chairs on the float for relaxing after a swim or just to sit and enjoy the views. We also keep a few camp chairs under the ramp in case more seating is needed. Lots of room for your kayak(s), paddle board, or small boat. There is a public boat ramp less than a mile away. The Solo stove firepit patio is located near the foot of the pier along the shoreline. Private with great views it's a must for s'mores making.
Our location is less than 15 minutes from Rte 1, 25 minutes from Damariscotta, 35 minutes from Pemaquid Pt. and 35 minutes from Rockland. We are very centrally located on the MidCoast, virtually in the middle between Wiscasset and Camden.
Property Owners will be resident in the Main house during your stay, available to provide any help needed including ordering up lobsters and/or oysters if you want. We have the lobsters delivered directly to our float by local fishermen (unless Jim has been lucky with his five recreational traps and has some to spare).

About the host
Hosted by Jim Russo

Originally from the Boston area Susie and Jim have enjoyed Butter Pt since 2000. Used mostly as a vacation get-away until Jim retired in 2017, we stayed in the guest house until 2015 when we finally finished the main house next door. We've lived and worked in Massachusetts, Texas, Michigan, Tennessee and overseas in The Netherlands, Portugal, France, and China. The guest house has several memento's from these travels.
Why they chose this property
It's our family retreat. Since we bought the property and built the guest house our two children have graduated college, married, and now have 6 kids between them. All of them look forward to their time in Maine be it in summer, at Christmas, or whenever they need time away from their busy lives. The location is special. Quintessential Maine with a focus on waterfront.
What makes this property unique
We describe our property as remote without being isolated and isolated without being remote. At the end of a private road (with only an island accessible by a low tide "bar" beyond us) we only have one neighbor. The opposite side of Butter Pt Rd is conservation land. Very quiet, private, and dark at night to enjoy the Milky Way and satellites passing overhead. But nearby is everything we need including shops and stores in Waldoboro, Damariscotta, Rockland, and Camden. There is an Audubon preserve one mile away on Dutch Neck Rd as well as a Land Trust hiking path to the local fresh water swimming hole, Peter's Pond. Lots to do, or just relax and do nothing at all but enjoy the quiet and watch the boats on the bay from the swing on the lower deck. Everyone that visits spends time in that swing.
