About this property

The Mercantile Studio: Antique Transoms & Reserved Parking

The Space
Located on the ground floor of a 19th-century building, this suite retains its original architectural character, from the antique transom windows to the original cast iron radiators. We have meticulously preserved the 1901 soul of this former mercantile building to provide an authentic Jim Thorpe experience that blends historical integrity with modern standards.

The Historical Experience
Original Details: The space features 10-foot ceilings and original wood pillars that reflect the building's industrial roots. This is a genuine 125-year-old building with character and "soul," offering a unique alternative to a standard hotel room.

The East Side Advantage: We are located roughly 1 mile from the scenic train station. By staying on the quiet East Side, you avoid the Broadway noise and congestion. Your stay includes a guaranteed, private off-street parking spot.

Historic Charm, Modern Amenities
Premium Features: While we honor the past, we provide modern comforts, including a color-changing fireplace and our premium Sonos sound system(exclusive to this unit). This space offers a washer and dryer.

Outdoor Living: Enjoy your coffee on the deck and a BBQ grill, situated just 2.4 miles from the entrance to Lehigh Gorge State Park.

At our VRBO location, we have a personal connection to this town and its wonderful attributes. We share appreciation for the quiet atmoshere, stunning scenery, and the refreshing clean air that fills the area. It is a place that holds a special place in our hearts. For me, spending time in nature and taking walks in the woods is not just a pastime but a source of energy and relaxation. The natural beauty that surrounds this town is truly cativating, and we want our guests to experience the same sense of tranquility and rejuvenation. In a delightful twist of fate, I had the pleasure of meeting my husband, Mark, in this very town. During that time, Mark and his family owned and operated the Hotel Switzerland, which has now transformed into the renowned Molly Maquires Pub and Steakhouse. This connection adds an extra layer of significance to our VRBO location. We are delighted to share our love for this town with our guests and hope that you, too, will find solace in the quietude, breathtaking scenery, and the fresh air that this place has to offer. It is our sincere desire to provide you with a memorable and peaceful stay that reflects the essence of this remarkable town.

Why they chose this property

We chose this neighborhood for our VRBO location due to a personal and professional connection. My career in retail led me to discover the charm and potential of this mercantile building, which boasts a delightful storefront that instantly caught my attention. Driven by a passion for vintage revival and a desire to create a space that prioritizes occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and overall space optimization, we embarked on a renovation project for this building. Our vision was to transform it into a remarkable retreat that seamlessly combines history with modern amenities. In 2021, our dream became a reality as the entire building underwent a complete renovation. Every detail was carefully considered and crafted to offer an enhanced experience for our guests. From the preservation of the building's character to the incorporation of energy-efficient features, we have worked tirelessly to create a space that exceeds expectations. Choosing this neighborhood was a natural choice for us, as we believe in the potential of this area and wanted to contribute to its revitalization. The result is a VRBO rental that not only offers a unique and captivating experience but also reflects our commitment to sustainable and thoughtful design. We invite you to be a part of this journey and experience the transformation firsthand at our VRBO location. Immerse yourself in the charm of the neighborhood, enjoy the comfort and efficiency of the renovated space, and create lasting memories in this vintage revival gem.
