This detached cottage, once a Victorian stable is situated in the owner's garden in the beautiful South Downs National Park area. There is free parking with exterior security camera. Downstairs it has a compact fully equipped kitchen, an open plan sitting/dining room (4.9 x 4.7m) and a garden room/playroom (4.5 x 2.9 m) with a variety of books, toys, games and DVDs plus a pool table / table tennis table which converts to a second larger dining table if needed. Upstairs there is a spacious family room (5.5 x 4m) which sleeps up to 4 people (1 of the single bed slots under the other when not in use) with attractive vaulted ceiling and ensuite bathroom. If a family or group of 4 want to be in separate rooms then the downstairs sitting room has a comfy double sofa bed and there is a separate toilet and basin. Enjoy snuggling into the Sherpa rugs while watching films on a cold night; make use of the Indian brazier/BBQ on a cool evening outside (please ask owner as we keep it in the main house in winter). Note that the upstairs bedroom opens onto the stairs. The garden is shared with the owners who encourage guests to use it; there is a climbing frame and slide, a basket swing and a trampoline with safety net (all to be used at guests' own risk); look out for the creatures hidden in the garden and Tree Beard. The nearest good dog walking area is Durford woods which is a 5 minute walk from the house, but we are surrounded by lovely areas to walk and good family and dog friendly pubs. How about visiting Butser ancient farm and then going onto Butser Hill for some star gazing followed by a Hampshire pub meal. Try a day in Portsmouth exploring the Historic dockyards and amazing views from the Spinnaker Tower followed by a meal and cocktail at Gunwharf Quays. For R and R try a day or an evening spa session followed by a meal at Champneys Forest Mere Spa in Liphook (5 mins drive). For Jane Austen fans you can visit her house in Chawton where she lived for the last 8 years of her life. This is a fantastic location from which to explore Hampshire and the beautiful South Downs National Park, to walk part of the South Downs Way, visit Alice Holt Forest (great climbing/play equipment for children and Go Ape) and other places of interest such as Petersfield Heath and boating lake, Gilbert White's House and gardens in Selborne, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (HMS Victory, The Mary Rose , Action Stations and nearby Navy museums), The Watercress line, Goodwood racecourse events, Paulton's theme Park, Fishers' Farm park, Petworth and Uppark house and gardens (National Trust) and the beautiful historic city of Winchester.

About the host
Hosted by Lucy Edgar
I spent many years working as a health professional in the NHS. When my children were young I retrained and worked at a primary school with special needs children for a couple of years before setting up my short term lets business in our annexe. I love meeting people from all cultures and backgrounds. I live in the countryside with my family and I love animals and nature.
Why they chose this property
We love living in the South Downs national park area where there is a good balance of interesting and historic towns and attractions within easy driving distance and beautiful woodland and countryside a few minutes walk from our house. We've been busy renovating our Victorian property over the last few years and making it more sustainable l; our annexe, Old Stable Cottage was once the stable and carriage house for our Victorian house.
What makes this property unique
It was once the stable and carriage house for our Victorian house and has an attractive vaulted ceiling. It is positioned on the old A3 between London and Portsmouth which has been a route since Roman times and was a crucial link in Victorian times between London and Portsmouth naval base. It also served as a major route for trade and commerce in Victorian times, hence the need for inns en route, including the Jolly Drover pub opposite our house.
