About the host
Hosted by The Grove Cottages
Hi I’m Mark
After travelling the world, I decided to settle down in Suffolk twenty years ago and started my own little business with a beautiful old derelict farm complex, which I converted into six lovely little cottages for people to escape from city life and enjoy the wonderfully rural experience that this area amazingly has, despite its close proximity to London.
I love what I do and am ‘Hands On’ with welcoming guests to my own six cottages, as well as looking after my Cottage Agency 'The Grove Cottages' that soon developed as other owners came asking me to take on their cottages and give them the same level of personal customer care, attention, and promotion that we are known and appreciated for.
I don’t want to be a huge company, I’m very happy to have a small agency where personal involvement is always the priority and where I can pick only places which I love and know inside out to join us.
I am always available to answer any questions and above all else I want you to be in a cottage that suits you, so you will become our ambassador.
Please do ask me a question about this cottage and I will give you a very honest answer.
Best Wishes

Why they chose this property
This is a gorgeous historic cottage in the centre of the picturesque Medieval town of Saffron Walden, just steps away from artisan bakers, delis, famous Pubs and Restaurants and a myriad of interesting shops and historic buildings.
We can accept up to 2 well behaved doggies in this cottage, the price is £20 per pet – this payment can be taken after booking.
Please note we only provide one travel cot for infants, please bring bedding, and we can only accept a maximum of two infants.
The cottage was built at a time when the famous Saffron fields were creating the wealth for this beautiful Market Town 500 years ago.
Downstairs the area is almost split in two by beams to provide a lovely dining area which extends into an impressively designed and well-equipped modern kitchen. To the right is a cosy sitting area with a wood burner to relax in front of and French doors leading out to the garden.
Upstairs is a 'small double' bedroom and a master bedroom with a 'double' bed , in between is a lovely bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower.
Situated in a quiet dead-end lane there is no noise from passing traffic and unrestricted parking.
The short lane leads to parkland.
The garden is completely enclosed and lit up at night for a you to enjoy a drink before venturing out to explore the foodie delights close by.

What makes this property unique
Miller Cottage is in a quiet cul-de-sac very close to the centre of Saffron Walden, it is steps away from excellent artisan bakers and lovely tea rooms, cafes, interesting pubs and good restaurants. Saffron Walden is a picturesque Medieval Town particularly rich in historic buildings and has had a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays since 1141 with a wide range of stalls from fruit and vegetables to olives, bread, whole foods, fish, flowers, antiques and collectables, clothing, jewellery and more, winning awards for being ‘The best small market’ in the Great British Market Awards. Jamie Oliver lives nearby and is an enthusiastic shopper at the market.
Some of the outstanding features of the town are the beautiful St Mary’s Church, the Old Sun Inn, the Eight Bells pub, the Cross Keys pub, Saffron Walden Museum (with everything from Mammoth tusks to Mummies), The Castle Keep ruins and the stunning Bridge End Garden with its immaculate Victorian Gardens and huge Maze. There is also The Fry Art Gallery and the attractive Common with its mile long turf labyrinth, there are even local Vineyards that can be visited.
The town is host to many Arts and crafts activities such as the Saffron Screen, a hugely successful Cinema, a state-of-the-Art Concert Hall, literary, music and maze festivals, Theatrical groups and organisations, many musical organisations and choirs.
There is a famous Street Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays
Close by is the wonderful Audley End House and Gardens which are a great day out with so much to do and see.
The countryside and tiny, picturesque villages around Saffron Walden are a joy to explore (we provide bikes for free).
The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is just a 20-minute drive away and a really amazing experience, and Cambridge, which next to it, is a lovely day’s outing.
