Exactly what we needed.

Everything was updated inside and beach was 30 meters away. Had some difficulty finding the apartment but was cleared up thanks to the quick communication with owner. Apartment was away from high traffic areas and close to a friendly local beach restaurant. Lots of rebuilding going on in the neighborhood but This apartment had everything we needed to include excellent views. Locals were friendly and welcoming. Would stay again. Thanks!

Ο Σταυρός βρίσκεται στην περιοχή Ακρωτήρι, περίπου 15 χμ ανατολικά της πόλης των Χανίων. Μπορείτε να φτάσετε ως εδώ με το αυτοκίνητό σας, αλλά και με κάποιο από τα καθημερινά δρομολόγια των ΚΤΕΛ που περνούν από το γραφικό λιμανάκι του Σταυρού. Το 1964 ο Anthony Quinn και η οσκαρική ταινία Zorbas the Greek ήρθαν να ταράξουν τα νερά σε αυτό το ήσυχο ψαροχώρι που χρησιμοποιήθηκε για τα γυρίσματα της ταινίας. Σήμερα ο Σταυρός θυμίζει ελάχιστα την τότε ερημική παραλία με μόνη ίσως εξαίρεση ένα βραχώδη όγκο που παραμένει ανέπαφος και υψώνεται για αρκετά μέτρα απέναντι από την ακτή. Αν επιχειρήσετε να ακολουθήσετε το μονοπάτι που οδηγεί στην κορυφή αυτού του βράχου, τότε θα ανακαλύψετε τη σπηλιά του χωριού και θα απολαύσετε μία μοναδική πανοραμική θέα.

Ο Σταυρός έχει δύο παραλίες οι οποίες είναι οργανωμένες με ομπρέλες, ξαπλώστρες και αναψυκτήρια. Τριγύρω θα βρείτε και αρκετά ταβερνάκια, καφέ και αρκετές μικρές ξενοδοχειακές μονάδες σε περίπτωση που θέλετε να διανυκτερεύσετε εδώ. Και οι δύο παραλίες έχουν πεντακάθαρα γαλαζοπράσινα νερά με την ανατολική να είναι ιδανική για παιδιά, καθώς διαθέτει ρηχά νερά και είναι καλά προστατευμένη από την κακοκαιρία. Η δυτική παραλία είναι ελαφρώς πιο ήσυχη και, όταν ο καιρός το επιτρέπει, αποτελεί μία εξαιρετική επιλογή. Μη φύγετε αν δεν κάνετε μία βόλτα στη μικρή χερσόνησο που χωρίζει τις δύο παραλίες, καθώς φιλοξενεί τα ερείπια του Ενετικού λατομείου από όπου εξορύχτηκε ο ασβεστόλιθος για την κατασκευή των τειχών της πόλης των Χανίων.
