This charming holiday home is situated five minutes walk from the picturesque village of Glandore. It is set among a small group of just 12 houses. Tastefully decorated, homely and very comfortable, it is well equipped with all mod cons and a wood burning stove to relax by in the evening. Featuring three spacious bedrooms perfect for family or group of friends looking for a rural Irish getaway. There is one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and the third bedroom has bunk beds. Please note that this house does offer wifi free of charge. Glandore is one of the prettiest villages in West Cork nestling in a natural habour and bordered inlet with safe, sheltered beach and pier. Glandore has wonderful traditional pubs and restaurants serving delicious sea foods - Caseys bar in Glandore has been in the same family for nearly two hundred years and has retained its wonderful charm. Across the harbour is Union Hall where sea angling, boat and deep sea fishing trips can be arranged.
THE LOCATION Glandore is a tiny village located in the heart of West Cork, just an hour’s drive from Cork International Airport (approximately a 5 hour drive from Dublin). It is acclaimed as one of the prettiest villages in Ireland. The literal translation of Glandore is Harbour of Oaks. Due to its location right on the water and overlooking Glandore Harbour, the village is a very popular spot during the summer months for water sports enthusiasts. The Gulf Stream passes close to Glandore ensuring a mild climate all year round along with some very interesting and unusual plants and flowers. It is unusual that Glandore Village does not have a shop (the closest is Centra in Union Hall) however it does offer some excellent restaurants and bars. The busy fishing port of Union Hall is just 1.5km across the water from Glandore and is linked by a fascinating bridge. The bustling town of Skibbereen is just 5 miles away.
LOCAL ACTIVITIES & ATTRACTIONS There are many small beaches in Glandore and its surrounding areas however the largest sandy beach is at Rosscarbery. There is also a Pitch and Putt Course beside the beach for some competitive family fun. Two miles east of Glandore is the Drombeg Stone Circle, one of the finest recumbant stone circles in the country. An afternoon walk through the magnificent scenery to visit this ancient historic site is on of the most relaxing ways to wile away a sunny day while on holiday in Glandore. There are also plenty of water sports available in the locality. Sailing is popular in Glandore itself while in neighbouring towns there are water sport centres which cater for everything from scuba diving to kite surfing. For children there are three playgrounds within easy driving distance – one in Union Hall, one in Skibbereen and the other in Clonakilty. Clonakilty is also well known for its model railway which appeals to children of all ages. The closest indoor swimming pool is at the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery.
