Located in the charming village of Withypool set at the heart of the Exmoor National Park, Valley Cottage is ideal for guests wanting to enjoy a rural escape. Every bit the classic image of a 'chocolate box' cottage, there is a generous garden at the front with wonderful views across the valley, and a higher lawn area at the rear of the cottage as well. Inside, there are original features galore and traditional decor offering a wonderfully homely feel.
Downstairs, there is a dining room in addition to the kitchen, and a separate living room, generously furnished with comfortable sofa and armchairs. Although not currently functional, the original fireplace makes a great focal point, and this room is great for cosy evenings together as a family.
The bedroom layout offers great flexibility for the whole family, with one of the five bedrooms being on the ground floor and having a double bed and its own ensuite bathroom. Upstairs to the first floor, there is another double bedroom, boasting beautiful views out across the valley. There is then a further twin room and two smaller single bedrooms, ideal for children. The main family bathroom is also upstairs, and has a bath with shower attachment. There is also an additional ground floor WC for convenience.
Outside, the garden has a patio table and chairs, so guests have the option of dining al fresco if desired. There is a private off-road parking area for 2 cars over the road from the cottage, and more on-street is available for no cost.
Locally, the village of Withypool has all the essentials on your doorstep, with a well-stocked village shop, popular tea rooms, and a pub all within walking distance. There are delightful walks across Exmoor straight from the village, and the coastal towns of Minehead and Porlock are within easy reach by car. Not to be missed is a visit to Dunster, a truly picturesque village with the famous Dunster Castle, now looked after by the National Trust.

Unbelievably beautiful house in a stunning location
Unbelievably beautiful house in a stunning location. The garden was absolutely gorgeous with views over Withypool bridge - there was a little shop and tearoom just down the road that were absolutely perfect. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and I truly wish we could have stayed there longer - one of the prettiest houses I've ever stayed in in the UK. I would definitely recommend!

Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for your kind words, we are pleased you found the accommodation lovely.
We will pass on to the owner about the television suggestion.

Valley Cottage is set in beautiful countryside in the village of Withypool. The property is in need of some updating but the kitchen is well equipped although dining table a little small for six adults. Local pub within walking distance as is tea room and local shop/post office.

Gorgeous place
The location is stunning . The cottage is homely , wood burning stove , cosy living room , well stocked kitchen and comfortable rooms . As you at night you can hear owls and at dusk the bats fly up and down near the river . Was delighted by the gift of a home made cake on arrival .
The stable door lock on the front door could be secured better .

Hi Annie,
Thank you for your review. I am so pleased to hear you had a wonderful stay that sounds extremely idyllic with the wood burning stove and the sound of owls at dusk. Almost like a fairy-tale brough to life. Thank you for your feedback regarding the door, I will share this with the team so we can look into this.

Had a great stay at Valley Cottage over New Year
The beds were comfortable and bedding and towels good quality and beautifully clean. Plenty of kitchen equipment, crockery and glasses. Thank you for the welcome pack, a nice touch and we especially enjoyed bubbly on NYE! Great location in the village with fabulous views. Very short walk to shop which seemed to stock everything you could need and very friendly. The local pub The Royal Oak is highly recommended welcoming, dog friendly, great ales and fantastic food. We did trips into South Molton and Tarr Steps, both within a 30 minute drive over the stunning moors. All in all a lovely cottage and we will be back! 😊

Lovely stay again
Good all round experience. All facilities on hand to make the stay a success. Just one issue and that is the tv hooked up to freeview. Very temperamental so needs updating. On occasions Had to use ipad to watch programmes. A small but important issue to resolve.

I booked valley cottage literally the night before departure after my holiday i had booked on anothe
I booked valley cottage literally the night before departure after my holiday i had booked on another site had been cancelled. The cottage was very old and charming and i was impressed with how clean it was. The garden and location really made the holiday as the weather was hot and you are only a couple minutes walk to the river. The only complaint i have is that when we went to use the bbq it hadnt been cleaned from what looked like last year. It had old meat on it and the whole thing was completely covered in mould. We really wanted to use it so spent a bit of time cleaning it. However the bbq was a surprise, i didnt know there was one so we were happy to find one even though we had to clean it. Other than that i am a holiday home cleaner and was impressed with the cleanliness but it was the garden and location that really made it for me as the weather was glorious! Thank you for such a lovely stay, i would highly reccomend!

March Trip
Having had holidays for 20+ years to Exmoor and this particular area, Valley Cottage is in a great location. Pub and village shop are within a couple of minutes away.
Cottage is 'quirky' and what you would expect of an old, quaint house. Kitchen is excellent and well equipped, bedrooms are all clean & tidy, lounge is huge with its own utility room. Seperate dining room is ideal, and the garden was well kept although the weather wasn't the best !
All in all the cottage acted as a great base for our 10day break away.
Property needs a shower, two baths with 'over' taps just doesn't work.
The spaniel from next door using the garden as its private loo !
A larger TV would be better, as my eyesight isn't the best, although we didn't watch it for long.

Lovely stay in a property full of character with great views.
We had a great few days at Valley Cottage. Kitchen has everything you could possibly need, central heating was great, beds were clean and comfortable. Tv could probably do with an upgrade. We would definitely go back.
