This beautifully restored historic Venetian and center of Old Town Rethymno property is a true gem. The substantial tasteful modernization of this home is impressive and yet respects its historical style. Mr Paraskevas is a wonderful and welcoming host in addition to being a master baker. We arrived to find a case of water, milk, orange juice, eggs, cheese, coffee and expresso pods, and his own delicious baklava! Yes, you do have to roll/tote your luggage a few short blocks from parking, but the great location mitigates that small inconvenience. For convenience, we parked in pay parking at the Fortessa, but there is free parking a few more blocks away near the bus station if you can find a place. As we stayed 7 nights, we actually got to know some of the local restaurant and merchant folks. Very kind and fun as well. There are so many choices for dining just steps away that are excellent. In particular, we most liked Kamara and To Pigadi for lunch/dinner and Cul De Sac for breakfast. There are also numerous bakeries for coffee and pastries for breakfast. We were fortunate to attend a wedding event at Agreco Farm up in the hills of Rethymno-a special place and also a culture tour with Chania Wine Tours including tours of olive oil production, honey hives, sheep farming/cheese production culminating in a picnic feast of traditional Creten fare at tour guide Vasilis’s mountain farm. We highly recommend Domus Clodus and hope to return. Great property and host/Mr. Paraskevas.

We were so excited to stay at such a beautiful history-filled place right in the heart of Old Town. The restoration of the Venetian era home was expertly done and managed to keep the feel of the time while having all the conveniences of modern life. It was very comfortable - the beds slept great and the rainfall shower was so relaxing after long days! Domus Clodia was incredibly convenient to walk anywhere in Old Town with so many restaurants, shops, bakeries, ice cream stores, scenery, and sightseeing right outside the door. Everything was well appointed and clean - we even arrived to find the owner had left some delicious homemade baklava from his shop across the way! They also provided us with quite a bit of groceries, which we unfortunately didn’t have time to use but appreciated all the same!It was such a special experience to run into the owner at a coffee shop on our last day and have him buy our coffee - such a great example of the lauded Greek hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again some day!A few notes for those who are unfamiliar with Greek life and specifically Old Town Rethymno: the driving in that area is very limited as the roads are so narrow so be prepared to be dropped off/picked up a few blocks away and pull your luggage! Also there is no toilet paper flushing in Greece so I recommend bringing pet waste bags to use to keep down odors. Also try Bougatsa for breakfast - you’re welcome!!!
