Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Town: The Caithness settlement of Lybster sits on a broad harbour with views across the North Sea and down to the Moray Coast and is steeped in clan history. Hotels, shops, and a golf course are just a few of the attractions available in Lybster. The combination of old history and breath-taking surroundings, as well as a story of steady progress and the ability to change with the times, will entice you to Lybster. An exhibition on the area's history and natural resources demonstrates how the community has persevered over time. The Grey Cairns of Campster, five miles inland on the Watten Road, provide tourists the opportunity to journey back in time by crawling inside the 5,000-year-old cairn or exploring the Achavanich Standing Stones, which stand sentry beside Stempster Hill.

The cabin is at the end of the host’s house driveway. The house is a B&B so there are people coming and going. There is, unlike the photos show, no privacy. The internet is spotty but generally ok. There are no serrated knives in the kitchen so if you want to slice bread, bring your own. There was one flimsy garbage bag for a 5 day stay. The host relented on the third day and gave us a proper garbage bag. No soap or shampoo was provided. Excellent shower though. Very tacky interior overall. Lots of cows and sheep around the property along with one horse on the front lawn. That was charming, especially if you like mooing.
