Construction of the palace began in the late 1400s. It is a typical example of a country manor house in the “Pianura Padana” region, featuring a massive cubic structure and perimeter walls that end in a “scarp.” Located 10 km from the wonderful city of Mantua, about 50 km from Verona, Lake Garda, Modena, and Parma, it offers ideal conditions for a stay dedicated to culture, fine dining, and relaxation in the Mantuan countryside.
The Palace is nestled in the Mantua countryside in a setting of great tranquility and is not far from places of great cultural significance (Mantua, Verona, Parma, Modena, Reggio Emilia), Lake Garda, and family-friendly attractions such as Gardaland, the Caneva Water Park, the Sigurtà Garden, or the Mantova Outlet District for shopping.
The construction of the Palazzo dates back to the late 1400s, and its current layout dates to the second decade of the 1700s, when Countess Afra Guerrini lowered the ceiling on the ground floor to save space, adding wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and creating a large open space below, illuminated by 15 elegant Baroque windows. What was previously referred to as the “Palazzetto da parone” (feudal manor) is therefore listed in the Teresian land registry as a “holiday home.” This classification is justified by the spatial organisation of the architectural elements and the garden with its orchard.
The floor plan is rectangular, with a central hallway leading to the four corner rooms—a typical layout of fine rural architecture—which is repeated on the upper floor, where there are four large bedrooms: two double and two single.
A fully equipped kitchen, a large porch with an adjacent barbecue, and the swimming pool during the summer season can all contribute to a pleasant stay marked by conviviality and tranquility. The place name Corte Pagliare “Desert” is in fact found in a Habsburg land registry: we like to think of the symbolism associated with the desert—a place of the spirit—where isolation, contemplation, and silence are prerequisites for personal renewal. We hope these conditions will make your stay a happy one.
