About this property
Charming Antique Cape
Featured in a recent Cape Codder as "a quintessential Cape Cod homestead," this well maintained c. 1790 home is one of the few original three-quarter Capes remaining in Truro. The house is a three minute walk from quaint downtown Truro; the Cape Cod Bay and the Atlantic Ocean are both about a mile away.
The house is on a large lot with a barn and has a view of the Pamet River across the road. A private stone patio (with furniture and grill) is situated behind the house off the family room. Outside the back kitchen door is a large enclosed outdoor shower for easy beach rinsing.
The downstairs is airy with white woodwork, lots of windows, and wood floors. The large living room has a wood burning fireplace and the dining room has the original rafters exposed. The family room at the back of the house has a TV, and the kitchen is equipped with all modern amenities. Completing the downstairs is a bathroom with a tub/shower and the master bedroom with a queen-sized bed.
The upstairs is typical "old Cape" with steep eaves and wide-planked wooden floors. One upstairs bedroom contains three twin beds while the other upstairs bedroom has one twin bed. The upstairs bathroom has a bath but no shower.

About the host
Hosted by Elizabeth Honea Buckles
This charming three-quarter Cape was built in 1790, and is a classic example of the Cape Cod architectural style. The house has been renovated through the years, resulting in a combination of modern conveniences and graceful antique ambience. A kitchen, family room, and bathroom addition remain faithful to the old Cape architecture in featuring exposed original beams, and the kitchen counters and cabinets are made from wood taken from the walls that were removed during the construction of the addition.
My parents bought the house in 1963, and except for one year when we lived there full-time, my three siblings and I grew up spending summers in this house. Now, my husband and our four children come in the summer when we can, and rent it out when we are not using it.

Why they chose this property
My parents chose Truro in 1963 because of its proximity to bay and ocean, its natural beauty, and its seclusion. They chose this house because of its charm as an 'old Cape'.
What makes this property unique
The unique benefits of this house are the lovely view of the Pamet River, the proximity to Truro center, the cozy feel of a Cape-style home, and the sense of history that comes from living in a house built more than 200 years ago. I also enjoy the kitchen; my mother designed it as a 'galley kitchen', meaning everything is within reach.
