About the host
Your host
I am an international civil servant by trade, an intrepid traveller and an arts appreciator with a passion for the great outdoors. I have lived, worked and studied across four continents, but northern Europe will always be home.
Why they chose this property
Growing up in the north east of England, Norway was always on the radar as our neighbour on the other side of the great North Sea. However, it took over four decades to discover the exquisite beauty of the country during an epic road trip through the western fjord region.
You could call it love at first sight because, after that, all roads led to Norway. After many months of exploration, I finally settled on Hardanger as the region I wanted to make my home from home. Acquiring our heritage property in Øystese, a former guesthouse on the banks of Hardangerfjord, was a dream fulfilled - a much yearned for retreat following years of urban living.
What makes this property unique
Having travelled extensively, both for work and pleasure, I feel I can say with some authority that there is no place quite like Norway, and the western fjords in particular. Staying in our Hardanger hideaway, nestled in a quaint fjord-side village, framed by snow-capped mountains with views of Folgefonna glacier to the south and the great Hardangerfjord all around, is a uniquely Norwegian experience.
Having found here a deep and enveloping inner peace, rarely encountered in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I am now on a mission to share it with others.
