We came for friends and family ski trip, some people chose to ski and some chose to shop. The house is a perfect location. The house leaves nothing to ask for.
We have been coming to Galena each December for nearly 30 years. This year we found the Row House and it is our new favorite place to stay. The house is spacious enough for a large group of people to stay comfortably. The furniture and décor are cozy and lovely. The beds were comfy and warm. Everything you could ever need for your stay has been thought of: Lots of towels, dishes, utensils, coffee makers and pods, and even umbrellas are available and handy. We could not have dreamed of a better place to spend our December weekend getaway! We will definitely be back!
Second time our family has stayed there. Great location can walk to everything. Mary is a great host. If you have a question or need help she gets back to you right away. Would definitely stay there again.
We stayed here when we were in town for a wedding. We loved the location. It’s right at the beginning of Main Street and close proximity to stairs to walk down to the Main Street. All the guests were raving about the place. It was perfect for a group. We would stay here again!!
Three of my brothers and I (with spouses) stayed at the delightful Bench Street rowhouse in Galena from three Wonder nights. We have a great reunion, with time spent walking the streets and heights of Galena as well as enjoying our 1845 Galena home. Well appointed and equipped, the rowhouse provided every comfort. We will be back.
It was wonderful we all had a good time, lots of stair therapy. it did us all good. Need to have at least 1 more day to see everything and do things. The house was gorgeous. Only thing, us old farts got our exercise with the stairs to the bedrooms. It did us good though! would definetley come back. Beautiful sitting on the patio at night. Even had two visistors a deer a kitty. Wonderful weekend.
Perfect Location and Renovated/Updated Beautiful Historic Home in downtown Galena! 5 Star!
Five of us gals (70 & 72 Mothers/3 Daughters had a fabulous time. The home has 5 bedrooms so we each had our own sleeping area with comfortable beds. Bedrooms were on floors 2 & 3 so you must be capable to handle steep steps.
All of us were very happy with the accommodations and will stay here next time we visit the area. Our hostess, Mary, was excellent at communicating with us.
The kitchen is well-equipped with a full-size refrig, gas range, coffee makers and dishwasher.
There is a bathroom on each floor. The home was spotless. There is a nice outside seating area with a huge gas grill.
The historic home, built in 1845, is located one block above the 1/2 mile shopping area so each could come and go as we pleased with easy walking to shop and eat.
We found many of the restaurants/Grant Home etc. were closed on Monday/Tuesdays after Labor Day.
The one-hour non-stop Trolley ride ($23) was worthwhile which departs on the hour starting at 10am. The Grant home ($5 donation recommended) contained many historic items and was enjoyed. The Galena Day Spa was top notch if you are looking for massages.
In Dubuque (20 minutes away) The American Lady sunset cruise ($25) was relaxing where we enjoyed a beautiful eve which included free beer, soda and big chicken tenders/sauces.
You will love this historic home! Reserve it today! Cindy
In town for a wedding for friends and the house worked perfectly for what we all needed over the weekend.

We really enjoyed staying here with our whole family for our daughter’s wedding in Galena. Great historic home, well appointed, great owners wonderful location easy access to everything. We had to manage a shower schedule but that was our only concern.
Thanks for a great stay Mary and Merle!
Our group had the best time in Galena! This home was perfect for us! If you appreciate beautiful old homes and are able to walk up and down stairs, this place is perfect. It has big bedrooms and very comfortable furniture. It’s an easy walk to shopping and has private as well as street parking. We loved it and would definitely come back.
My girls and I stayed here for 2 nights, there were 9 of us and we never felt crowded. The home was very convenient for getting down to the main strip and easy to find! I would definitely recommend this home to anyone but please be aware that there are a lot of stairs in the home as well as up/down to the main street area.
This absolutely beautiful home was exactly as advertised. The location was wonderful. We walked everywhere. The home was gorgeous and clean and so well appointed. Everything was so thoughtfully laid out for us. We loved the time in the home relaxing outside and in. We enjoyed listening to the records provided on the turntable. I read each morning in the sunroom. Enough space for a family of 5 to spread out and also we were able to spend time together in the living spaces. Our first two nights a deer even came to graze on the hill behind the house. The neighborhood was safe and friendly and I’m so glad that this gem of a home was saved and restored so we could enjoy it.
We have the most amazing time as a great away with my mom, sister, and son. It was our first time in Galena and it was absolutely the perfect spot! The home is lovely, very comfortable, and in an amazing location! All of the info that Mary has available to guests helped us pick some great restaurants and shops! We will be back!
We wanted to go to Galena for a long weekend with my adult children over spring break. The house is located one block north of Main Street and the three story house has great views of the city. We were able to walk to everything even the local magic show. The house is beautiful and even more importantly very comfortable. We all slept well in the bedrooms which were warm and super cosy. A good night sleep is so important after days of shopping and hiking. We were only a group of 4 but the house could comfortably accommodate many more people. I would highly recommend.
Eight women stayed for the weekend for our second time and we had a fabulous time at the house and in town!
This house has a lot of history and the owners have done a great job keeping it beautiful! With all the historic charm!
It has everything you need and then some. The linens are super nice and comfy!
Owner, Mary, is very friendly and answers emails quickly!
We raised five kids. They're all above average. Time for a nap.
Why they chose this property
3 floors of comfort in a great historical brick home and only minutes from downtown.
What makes this property unique
So close to downtown, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring this amazing place back to life. A continuing work in process, the history of the home is what makes it unique. We hope you enjoy your stay and look forward to hosting you!
