The town is also home to the church of St Michael with St Mary, which is on the site of a much earlier Anglo Saxon building, and is regarded as one of the finest Norman Parish Churches in the country. Swadlincote is also 8 miles north; there is much to enjoy in the town including a lovely relaxing walk, through rolling South Derbyshire countryside, starting from Melbourne’s medieval marketplace.
