Following the restoration, the residence now includes distinct drawing, sitting, and dining rooms. Featuring 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, this manor can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests, ensuring that each individual can indulge in unparalleled elegance during their stay.
The Manor
The Hewletts is an exquisite Georgian country house, boasting a Grade II listing due to its architectural significance and once part of the Southam estate owned by the De La Bere family of Herefordshire. This remarkable property was primarily built in the mid-18th century, although it has earlier roots, and is situated in a commanding location atop Aggs Hill.
As you enter the estate through the sweeping drive, guests enjoy this breath-taking panoramic views over its own beautiful parkland grounds, of Cheltenham to the Malvern Hills and the Black Mountains of Wales.
The Georgian architecture of this house is known for its inviting and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal entertaining space. It offers a wide range of comfortable living spaces that are perfectly balanced for both family stays and entertaining. Unlike many other country houses in the Cotswolds, The Hewletts stands out with its large sash windows that fill the rooms with natural light and provide enchanting views for its guests.
Stone steps ascend to the entrance of the house, leading to a reception hall adorned with a magnificent 18th-century staircase. On either side of the staircase, you will find the drawing room and dining room, both exuding elegance and the high ceilings filled with natural light.
The billiard room and family room, although smaller, offer a more intimate atmosphere. The drawing room is a marvellously elegant space, illuminated by its south-facing sash windows and a French window that opens onto the terrace and gardens to the south.
Adjacent to the reception hall, the study/library is a cosy room of more intimate dimensions. It offers a fireplace and fitted bookshelves, providing a tranquil space for reading and study.
The kitchen and breakfast room is meticulously designed, featuring a bespoke fitted kitchen, a large-slab flagstone floor, a 4-oven electric AGA, and a well-stocked larder. From the kitchen, glazed doors lead to a central courtyard seating area, offering a sheltered space at the rear of the house.
Steps from this area provide access to the walled garden and garden stores. At the opposite end of the kitchen, you will find a splendid orangery with doors that open onto the lawns on the southern side of the house.
Situated centrally within the house, just off the kitchen, is a family room with a fireplace and a log-burning stove. This room also grants access to the rear hall. The rear hall leads to the north wing, where you will discover an excellent games room and bar, perfect for entertaining family and friends in style.
Completing the ground floor accommodation, there is a cloakroom, boot room, and a well-appointed laundry room.
Cheltenham
Cheltenham offers a haven for those seeking the finer things in life, with its array of Michelin-starred restaurants, trendy shops, and elegant salons. Art and history enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the newly renovated museum and art gallery, The Wilson. The town's cultural scene is vibrant, boasting two concert halls, three theatres, and a jam-packed annual festival season, including the renowned Wychwood Festival and the literature, science, food and drink, and jazz festivals. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the year is the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the prestigious event that concludes the national hunt calendar and attracts visitors from far and wide.
In close proximity to the town centre, you'll discover the remarkable Grade II listed Lido, an open-air heated swimming pool, as well as tennis courts in Montpellier Gardens, which require prior planning due to their immense popularity. Moreover, the house's convenient location allows for easy exploration of the breath-taking Cotswold countryside, making it an ideal base for those wishing to delve into this truly unique part of the world.
Junction 11 of the M5 motorway, a mere 5 miles away, provides convenient access to Bristol, the southwest, Birmingham, and the North. The nearby A40 offers a direct route to Oxford and the M40, while there are frequent train services from Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington.
The Sleeping Spaces
This magnificent property features 6 spacious and sunlit bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. The main bedroom suite is a remarkable space with stunning views to the south and west, overlooking the gardens and parkland. Additionally, one can enjoy captivating vistas of Cheltenham, the Malvern Hills, and the Black Mountains in Wales. The ensuite shower/bathrooms have been recently renovated to a superior standard.
On the first floor, there are three more charming bedrooms and a bath/shower room. Equally impressive are the two ensuite bedrooms on the second/attic floor, featuring fireplaces and sash windows that fill the rooms with natural light and offer breath-taking views to the west.
Gardens and Grounds
Switch off and embrace in the privacy of The Hewletts. Surrounded by 50 acres of gardens, grounds, and parkland, this is your chance to truly connect with family and friends. The grounds are adorned with several magnificent trees, and the parkland features additional mature specimen trees. The gardens, which can be enjoyed from all the main rooms in the house, have a formal feel with well-stocked borders surrounding the property.
At the rear of the house, there is a beautifully presented walled garden consisting of three terraces. This garden includes a comprehensive kitchen garden and various herbaceous borders, as well as two ornamental ponds.
A stone paved terrace, accessible from the orangery, provides an ideal space for al fresco dining. It leads to the main lawn, located to the south of the house, which offers views across the parkland and beyond. This expansive lawn has been thoroughly enjoyed by guests for entertaining and kids sporting tournaments!
The Hewletts encompasses approximately 50 acres in total, with a picturesque land holding of parkland grazing and agricultural pasture. The land surrounds the house, creating a wonderfully secluded setting that offers a diverse range of scenery, including undulating features, mature parkland trees, and woodland.
