About this property
Beautiful cottage seconds from the famous picturesque harbour at Mevagissey
Harbour Retreat is a beautifully presented Grade 2 listed cottage, with all the home comforts to make your stay an absolute pleasure and just a few feet away from the picturesque working harbour. Situated right in the heart of Mevagissey, yet a peaceful haven at the end of a busy day spent exploring all the surrounding area has to offer. Should you choose to eat in, the fully fitted kitchen has everything you need to rustle up a family meal, with plenty of dining space. Relax afterwards in the lounge area with plenty to occupy the family. Smart TV, DVD, board games, or maybe a stroll around the harbour and watch the fishermen return home with their wares or try to land your own catch off the outer harbour whilst watching the sun go down. The stunning village of Mevagissey will transport you back in time and immerse you in the wonder of true Cornish tradition. It is the 2nd largest working fishing harbour in Cornwall with around 30 boats licenced to trade out of the harbour. Take to the sea yourself and join fellow guests on a large choice of fishing trips; Visit the aquarium and museum and learn about the local history of land and sea or for thrill seekers, enjoy a speedboat trip around the bays. Amid the cobble streets you will discover boutique shops, restaurants and bars and with plenty of seating around the harbour, a must is fish and chips whilst watching the world go by. You may be planning to experience one of the many annual festivals that Mevagissey proudly hosts, such as Feast Week, Sea Shanty or Toshers Race but whenever you come, our village will fill your heart with joy and make returning time and time again a must.
Mevagissey has great public transport links and is ideally situated for exploring all that Cornwall has to offer. The Eden Project is 21 mins by car (9 miles) and further along the coast is the beautiful town of Fowey 30 mins by car (13 miles). Alternatively why not take the Ferry to Fowey from Mevagissey harbour! and hopefully spot the odd dolphin or two! Local sandy beaches and coves are abundant, the nearest being Portmellon, a few minutes drive away. Pentewan Sands is a similar distance with great watersport facilities/restaurant/bar. Discover the North Coast and the magnificent Fistral Beach at Newquay is just a 45 minute drive (22 miles). We live locally and can impart some little gems for you to explore.

About the host
Hosted by jackie young

When my children were little I used to rent a cottage in Mevagissey every year and just fell in love with the area. During the pandemic, I was working in London as a midwife travelling up and down the M25 and visiting mums to be in their own homes. This is when I realised Mevagissey was calling me. I sold up and made the move. I started working for Penrice Birth Centre, just 10 minutes from Mevagissey and within my first month, I found myself on the Fowey Ferry at 8am, crossing over to Bodinnick to attend a homebirth. It was like a scene from Doc Martin - a million miles away from queing on the M25. I am so lucky to be able to host my home and give other families the experience that changed my life.
Why they chose this property
Mevagissey holds so many amazing memories for me and millions of other people. It puts an instant smile on your face as it welcomes you to its unique charm and history. Being a working harbour, you cannot help but immerse yourself in the culture and put the stesses of everyday life away for another day. I watch people from all corners of the earth wander by, soaking up the atmosphere. I see children with their buckets trying to catch crabs, fish and chip lovers on the benches, people boarding boat trips, queues for ice creams, walkers passing by with their back packs and sticks and others just marvelling at the incredible views.
What makes this property unique
Harbour retreat must have an incredible history within its 200 year old walls. It is seconds away from the hustle and bustle, yet peaceful inside. You may go exploring the many gorgeous beaches, places of interest during the day, however, you come back to a vibrant piece of history right on your doorstep to end a magical day.
