Historic Maple Street Dairy-Charm and Convenience in Stowe Village
Located in the heart of one of New England's most vibrant villages, the Maple Street Dairy exudes country charm while offering travelers a Vermont take on Alpine chic.
This well-preserved 1830's farmhouse, with wide plank flooring and beautiful winding staircase, is part of a compound which was the Maple Street Dairy, the first dairy in Stowe. It is within easy walking distance of numerous shops, restaurants, and recreational amenities. World class downhill skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort is just a 12 minute drive away, or if you don't want to drive to the slopes, you can hop on the ski shuttle which stops just down the street.
With three bedrooms and two full baths, the home comfortably sleeps 6 in the upstairs bedrooms. If you need more heads in beds, two more can sleep on the sectional sofa in the den downstairs. Two separate living and dining areas provide a spacious environment for apre-ski lounging for adults and kids. HDTV, DVD player, wireless internet access, and plenty of board games and puzzles are provided to keep you connected and entertained.
The property owners, who live on site behind the farmhouse in the renovated barn, are dog lovers and know many guests don't want to have to leave their dog behind when they go on vacation. One well-behaved dog is permitted and more are negotiable. Stowe's famed recreation path and off-leash Quiet Path are both great places to walk or ski with your dog nearby.
Come enjoy village life in Stowe!

Cozy place, walking distance to Stowe shops and restaurants. Host are friendly and very helpful. Had a great stay over Christmas and were lucky with a lot of snow. Definitely will recommend!
Karen and Dan are superb hosts! We truly loved staying in their historic 1855 farmhouse. The house was close enough to walk into the historic center of Stowe and enjoy all the amenities of Stowe without the hassle of finding parking. We highly recommend this beautiful property!
What a charming historic home with all the comforts of home. We loved every minute and especially enjoyed the short walk to town and the bike trail. The hosts were exceptionally kind and lovely to chat with. Highly recommend staying here!

Cosy Cottage
Quaint and cosy cottage a very short walk to the main street in Stowe. Our multi-generational family group had a wonderful stay at this cottage for a week of skiing. The location is fabulous and the house is pretty as a picture. Stacks of original details and the cottage is styled well. Loads of extra linens, towels and thoughtful comforting touches throughout the house. The only negative was the fridge and freezer wasn't working during our stay and given it was a holiday weekend the owners couldn't organize a replacement - however they did what they could and shouted us a meal at a local diner as compensation (thanks!). Karen was a very attentive owner and available to assist whenever we had a question. Some kitchen items were a little tired (pots, glasses etc) so if you are culinary focused bring your favorite utensils along and if you have a large group you may need to bring some extra forks/spoons etc. All in all a wonderful stay!

Wonderful house for a wonderful weekend
My four sisters and I planned a bucket list trip to Vermont for our mom's 60th birthday. We found the Maple Street Dairy and fell in love with it immediatly and know our mom would love it too.
After months of planning and waiting, it was finally time to throw 7 adults in a van and drive from Cleveland, OH to Stowe, VT.
As soon as we got to the house we knew we had made the right choice!! The exterior is beautiful and manicured perfectly and the porches and outdoor furniture are so welcoming.
The interior is spacious and beautiful. Even though we had so many adults we never felt like we were on top of each other.
The kitchen had everything we needed to feed a family of 7. Even when there ended being no dishwasher detergent the owner was a text away and brought more to us.
There's a master bedroom, 2 smaller bedrooms with 4 single beds and a pullout couch in the living room. All the bed rooms were well decorated and very pretty. The pullout couch was a joke if you need 2 adults to sleep on it. There isn't a bed that pulls out, the cushions unfold onto the floor. I didn't even use it and just slept on the regular couch.
The locations is AMAZING!! It's a quarter mile walk(tops!!) to get to downtown and all the shops and restaurants Stowe has to offer!! We walked everywhere!!
All in all, this house helped make my mom's birthday picture perfect. If we ever get back to Vermont The Maple Street Dairy would be the only house we'd want to stay in!!

So happy you all had a great stay. Yes, the flip out sofa definitely not big enough for two adults but the kiddos love it. We are glad to be a part of a wonderful family weekend. Hope to see you all back someday!
We loved our stay at this gorgeous property- the home was wonderful and you couldn’t ask for a better location just a 5 minute walk to town. We had the most perfect fall stay!
What a wonderful historic property that is walkable to downtown Stowe Center. Plenty of space for a family; this property was neat, clean and the proprietors are responsive and conscientious. We would definitely rent this property again!
Wonderful home right in the Heart of Stowe Village
Great experience in Stowe home was very clean and exactly how the owners describe their property. Location in Stowe Village short 7 mile drive to the top of the mountain. Karen and Dan were very nice and made the whole weekend great for us. Thanks Again for sharing your wonderful home.
The "Maple Street Dairy" house is absolutely fantastic. The house is large, open, with plenty of space, and unusually, the beds and furnishings were first class. After a day of snowboarding (with the shuttle to the mountain only about a 5 minute walk), we loved that we could rest up at the house and then walk to Stowe village for restaurants and bars. We will return to this place.
Karen's house is wonderful - beautiful, just as described, and in a great location, walking distance from Stowe village. Karen was very helpful during our stay, the check-in process was easy and we would highly recommend this house.
This home is in a great location. Close to all the shops, trails and restaurants that Stowe has to offer. Easy walking to almost everything. There was a very minor mix up with keys but Karen fixed it immediately. And it gave her a chance to fill us in with the weekend events happening in Stowe. A win win! We are already planning our next girls weekend back.
We had a great stay; went up as 2 young families and had plenty of space and amenities in a charming antique farmhouse so close to the town center, shopping and bike path.

Great Family Vacation in a lovely home
The Maple Street Dairy was perfect for a magical stay in Stowe. Short walk into the village for easy access to shops and restaurants. The mountain shuttle was our transportation up to the mountain for great skiing and Tap 25 in the village was our Apres Ski spot. Karen and Dan were very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions we had. Our dogs adjusted well and loved the open space area not far from the home where dogs could be off leash. The home had more than enough room for our extended family. It's a must stay and we hope to return in the future.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Akins
The property owners are Karen and Dan Akins, who live on the compound behind the original farmhouse in the renovated barn. They moved to Vermont in 2002 from Austin, Texas via London, England to raise their kids, but are now empty nesters.
Dan is from St. Paul, Minnesota and Karen is from Oklahoma and Texas. They met while studying at the London School of Economics.
Why they chose this property
Being in Stowe village is great because you have easy access to nature along the recreation path but you can also walk to all the village amenities. Maple Street is one of the few areas of Stowe with a real neighborhood feel. In the winter, you can also access the snowmobile path right out the back door!
What makes this property unique
The Maple Street Dairy is located alongside other well-maintained historic residences in Stowe, within walking distance of all of the amenities of Stowe village. This is a perfect location for skiers and non-skiers alike, so that some in the group can take the ski shuttle to the mountain in the morning, while others have use of the car. Or if some drive up, the others are not stuck at a remote location, but can walk into the village to shop or eat.
