I took a risk booking a property with no reviews, and unfortunately, this stay was very stressful. Before our trip, I informed the host about extra guests and specifically asked whether there would be additional fees and was told there was “no problem.” I was also told our dates were confirmed after requesting to shorten the stay by one night. Upon arrival, I was told there would be a 600 additional guest fee and that the fifth night would not be refunded. When I questioned this, the host threatened to involve the police if I didn’t pay immediately. I understand that miscommunications happen, but the unclear communication around fees and the way the host handled the dispute added immense stress to our entire party (two families with little kids) as well as over 900 in unexpected costs. The house is nice and looks as shown in the pictures, with some practical issues: the kitchen was poorly stocked (no bowls) and one water heater was broken for roughly half our stay, leaving 12 people sharing one hot shower. I want to note that the host’s parents, who own the property, were kind and pleasant people, and the house itself has many positive qualities. However, their son, who handled communication and payments, has a lot to learn about clear, transparent, and reasonable communication with guests. Because of that, although I would like to recommend the property itself, I cannot recommend the hosting experience.
