About this property
"The Cutty Shack" Lake House on Kissimmee River
"Cutty Shack" is the perfect fishing retreat. It is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath home built by our family in 1969. The Cutty Shack will sleep 6-7. This large stilt home (all living area is upstairs) is situated directly over the Kissimmee River and right next door to Camp Mack River Resort. You and your group can enjoy peaceful evenings in the house, or walk next door to grab a drink and watch a "weigh-in". Life on the Kissimmee River is very peaceful. On some weekends and holidays, Camp Mack may have concerts and fishing tournaments, making the scene more lively. Lake Kissimmee State Park is less than one mile away and is a great place for picnics or hikes. If you have a large group, the Cutty Shack is so close to Camp Mack that additional members of your party can stay there and still be within walking distance. Additional information: Parking for pick-up trucks and trailers is available on the property. Camp Mack amenities include Boat ramp ($6), camp store, ATM, fishing licenses, bait, and tackle. There is even a food truck if you don't catch enough fish for dinner. Airboat rides provided by local guides are available through Alligator Cove Airboat Nature Tours. The Cutty Shack is a stilt house over 50 years old in the middle of Florida. It was built by our family for our family. At any time of year, we may have lots of bugs, gators, sandhill cranes, etc. If you are looking for a place to stay while you fish or hunt, this is it. Evening activities include playing cards, games, watching movies or sitting by the fire at Camp Mack. It is rural and rustic. If you are looking for new, modern and fancy, you may want to look closer to Orlando or check out the Hampton Inn in Lake Wales. Our house maybe just 20 minutes from downtown Lake Wales, but it's a world away. Bring your bass boat! We have a boat slip under the house that is included in the rental. Five generations of our family have enjoyed this little slice of Florida paradise, and we hope you will too!

Perfect house to get away and enjoy old Florida. House was great and host was so easy to get ahold of and communicate with. We will definitely be back.
We come every year and accommodations and location are great! Always well informed by Kristin of every detail for our stay. We are already planning our trip for next year.
This is the second year we stayed at the Cutty Shack. It is perfect for our family and love being on the water. Looking forward to next year!

One of the best experiences ever!
Amazing location from where we usually stay. We walked into the house and was in awe. Spacious, clean, beautiful, everything you could ever need! The best place I’ve ever stayed at in Lake Wales!

Thank you. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! It is our favorite place to unplug and spend time with family.
Me and a buddy of mine started bringing our dads who were lifelong friends fishing at Camp Mack since the late 90’s. This is by far the most accommodating place we have stayed. We reserved for our next trip next year before we left.
Staying here made our whole Thanksgiving Weekend so special! Waking up on the water, docking the airboats underneath safe and sound! Our favorite place to stay every time we head to the Lake! Kristin is so good with communication before during AND after our stay! Thank you guys so much and was awesome meeting Eddie this trip, the man who built it! Awesome history!

Thank you Melissa! We love sharing the history with our guests. Thanks for appreciating our little piece of old Florida.
We have used the Cutty for years and always have to say the stay has never disappointed! Old age may catch up with but good Lord willing will be back again next year!
Chose this property for its proximity & boat slip to Camp Mack. It was adorable place. Roomy & Retro! Property Manager makes sure to accommodate special requests. Amenities are plenty & above expectations. Thank you for offering a tranquil water retreat!

Thank you Charity! So glad you enjoyed your stay. I hope you come back to see us!
Everything was exceptional except the grass needed mowing! The grass was almost knee high and you would get ants on you when you walked through it. This in no left a negative impact on my group, we are looking for the days to book for next year already.
Over all good. Three things need to be better. Water is terrible. Better boat protection on boat slip. And WI-FI is needed.

Hi Michael,
Thank you for your feedback. We always want our guests to have the best possible experience! We will be getting wi-fi later this year. The water in that area does have a strong sulfur smell. We do have a service contract with Culligan to maintain our water standards. I will ask my husband to put some new dock bumpers on the slip. I really appreciate your feedback. Hope the fishing was good!
We come down here this time every year, but this was the first time staying at the Cutty Shack. We loved every moment of our stay and I am not lying when I say I had tears in my eyes when I locked the little shack up upon departure. :-( We have been traveling home for two days now and I still miss the slanty shack. We hope to be able to stay there again soon! Kristin was an excellent host and was amazing to work with! If you are looking for some awesome down home Florida fun, this is the place to go! Just please don’t book my dates!!! ;-) ;-) See you soon Cutty Shack!

Thanks Genny! It was such a pleasure hosting you and your family. It means so much to us when we have guests who appreciate "Old" Florida as much as we do! See you next time :)
Location, location location I wanted to stay as close to Camp Mack as I could and did not know this area. This was my first time visiting and did not realize until I got here that it was right next door to Camp Mack. This house is very nice and spacious; myself, two of my family members and two of my friends stayed here with plenty of room. We took two boats with us, there is plenty of room to park both of them underneath the house and yard plenty big enough for trailers. It was nice having a cleaning station to clean the fish. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here who wants to fish. This chain of lakes is wonderful. The house had basically everything you needed for your stay. The owner was very nice and responded quickly and was lovely to work with. Definitely will stay here again!
Stayed here many times, always great time. Host is fantastic to work with. Will be back next year.

About the host

Why they chose this property
Cutty Shack was built by our family in 1967. This part of Florida had been home to several generations of our family dating back to the Civil War. In the 1960's our grandparents and their siblings returned to the area to relax and fish on the weekends. We continue to follow in their footsteps and gather with our children and grandchildren. This is our favorite spot to slow down and spend time with family and friends.
What makes this property unique
If you've never boated or fished Lake Kissimmee or Lake Hatchineha, you may be surprised to find that it is possible to be on a lake not far from Disney World, and feel so surrounded by nature.
