We had a great stay over the 4th of July weekend. The "Mayflower House" is great, the pictures say it all, with plenty of space both inside and out. Mariellen showed us the house/property upon arrival and was responsive if/when needed.
Everything was very smooth, the house was very nice, quiet, and secluded. It is perfect for a nice relaxing getaway. There’s lots of space and tons of history in the house itself. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
I highly recommend this house! Great location too! Not too far from town. Everything was convenient and fun.

Beautiful week at Mayflower House
My family and two dogs had a wonderful July week. We spent mornings at low tide on the bay beach and afternoons at the National Seashore. The house is charming and includes everything you could need for a one week stay, very well stocked. Very peaceful location with great water views.
We loved our stay at The Mayflower. The place was well appointed and stocked, the beds were extremely comfortable, and the breeze in the yard kept us cool. The outdoor shower was a HUGE hit - super private and well-appointed. If you're looking for a classic Cape adventure, look no further. We plan to come back!
First of all, the location is incredible. The house itself is SO charming and comfortable. Beds are comfortable, everything was clean, the views are so nice!! We loved the front sunroom for our morning coffee and the outside area for our evening cocktails. Overall, our stay was a fantastic experience all around. We will definitely be back.
The house is roomy enough to lounge, and the breeze from the ocean is great. All amenities are good for cooking and BBQ. The property owner is very responsive and friendly. I wouldn't recommend it for someone disabled or who has problems walking because the stairs are steep.A cozy place to stay.
Mariellen is an absolutely wonderful host and her home is full of Cape Cod charm ❤️…..beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean!!
We felt right at home and could smell the ocean air from our windows…Our pup Littles was welcomed with open arms and we appreciated that so much!
We will definitely be back next year, thank you Mariellen!!
Lots of space to spread out and enjoy yourself on your own or with others. Outdoor shower is the best! Short walk across the street to bayside beach. We set up camp over there all week and just walked back to the house to resupply. Enjoyed an great cookout with friends on one night. The house is made to host! Enjoy!
Fantastic place with lots of room to spread out - big dining table and separate porch table. Chairs and tables outside with patio and grill. Outdoor shower with good heat. Easy walk down stairs across street down stone drive way to beach access. About a 3 minute walk. Fantastic.
We stayed for a week in August at Mariellen's lovely Mayflower cottage. The house is equipped with every item you could need, from serving platters, to washer/dryer, coffee maker, linens, to a book to suit every interest. While temps were high the week we were visiting, there was always a gentle breeze and shade to be enjoyed at Mariellen's beautiful outdoor seating space. The location is great: a 5 minutes walk to the beach, an easy bike ride into town, and you can wave down the shuttle bus right down the stairs on Commercial Street.
Mariellen was a great host, too! Met me on arrival to talk me through things and was available via text. When it came time to check out, I found I had a flat tire! Mariellen appeared to help out. When a stubborn lug nut prevented us from changing it ourselves, she directed us to a service center that could help.
Note to the wise: If you are driving up, consider your car's clearance. The driveway loops around from Commercial Street to the rear of the property and it's a little bumpy. My little volvo had to creep along. Additionally, the trees above the parking spots were letting out a little sap - nothing elbow grease couldn't get out, but you may want to check every few days to keep any droplets from hardening.

So,so.
The view from the porch is very nice but obstructed. The property is very natural. The owner ran a weed Wacker around the house at 9am Fri morning. The owner spent most of the time in the house next door. The outdoor space abuts that house (referred to as her studio), making it uncomfortable in terms of privacy. We used the outdoor space once. It was nice to have a large grill. However, the Adirondack style chairs, around the picnic table, made it impossible to eat outdoors. The stairs from the main floor are extremely narrow, making it difficult to maneuver luggage. The stairs from the house to the street are very steep, very long, and splintered. It's not as close to the beach as it appears and this particular beach is covered in seaweed and it smells. The positive is that it wasn't crowded. We packed up and traveled to and from Race Point, which was beautiful, but not what we wanted to do. Upstairs shower is very small. Bedrooms are tiny and extremely close together. Barely an inch between each door. Only two bedrooms have AC. The unit in one of the bedrooms is loud and only inches from your face. While the kitchen was well stocked, I would bring spices, etc. Only one bath towel per guest. I would not recommend bringing a pet. The house on the right side of the rental is even closer than the owners studio to the left. The renters in that home had dogs that would bark and cause ours to bark. We could also hear their baby crying (not a problem other than the crying also caused our dogs to bark) Although a couple of miles is certainly walkable, there are no sidewalks until you get very close to downtown. We caught the shuttle once. The second time we tried to catch it, we waited 45 minutes (supposed to run approx every 20) and finally loaded up the car and drove. The third and final time we attempted the shuttle, 6 people, with a baby stroller stood by the road and the shuttle flew by us. While the place is eclectic and has New England charm, based on the cost, for the week, along with the additional charges, it was not what we expected.

Jeffrey, it’s unfortunate that you and your family didn’t enjoy your visit at the Historic Mayflower House.
I believe my VRBO description is accurate.
The yard is private and quite large. The patio alone is 400 sq ft and the additional grassy area with the 6 Adirondack chairs and coffee table is another 300 sq ft. There is no mention of a picnic table but of course you are welcome to eat in the two sitting areas. Also, the house has a large dining room and a porch with a dining and sitting area.
There is more than 30 feet between the house and my artist studio. I can assure my guests that if I’m working in the studio I’m extremely considerate. Compared to most places in Provincetown this property, along with parking, is a well desired rental location.
There are three showers. The second floor shower is a stall shower and the first floor shower is a full tub with a shower. The most popular shower is the private outdoor shower which is 8x10 with hot and cold water.
There are three bedrooms and two of them have ac’s.
I supply a full set of linens. A beach, bath and hand towel plus a facecloth per guest. The house does not supply clean towels daily as it is not a hotel, that is why the house has a full laundry room.
Regarding additional charges. The Mayflower house allows one well behaved dog for a fee. Your family paid for one dog but brought two. That alone breaks the lease. Parking is included for two cars. You asked for a third space which I provided. I felt I was very accommodating on both accounts.
I understand you were disappointed with the beach due to the tide and seaweed, the overcrowding of the town shuttle and it’s schedule, neighbors with a crying baby and an occasional barking dog… all of which I have no control over.
The Mayflower House may not have been what you expected but it is an historic Provincetown beach house that is well loved and cared for. I take pride in the house and I always want to accommodate my guests so that they’re happy and comfortable. Being a VRBO Premier Host I constantly strive to be the best of the best. This is reflected in the many exceptional reviews that are posted.
Mayflower House has the feel of days gone by...It is a true gem and a most delightful place to have your vacation by the sea. My husband, sister, daughter and I enjoyed a week at the house, torn between just wanting to have lazy days relaxing on the porch or heading into town to enjoy carnival week. We managed to do both, as well as get trips to the beach across the street(easy walk), and Herring Cove, and Race Point beach where we were entertained by the seals swimming by close to shore. It was always nice coming back "home"and having plenty of showers and space to accommodate the family getting ready to go out for the evening. The beds were very comfortable and the ocean breeze lulled us to sleep. Mariellen was such a wonderful host and took good care of us. We definitely would return to Mayflower House. Thank you Mariellen for creating such a wonderful space...
We had a great stay. It was great having walking access to the beach and being close to town. We also enjoyed the outdoor areas, but I would recommend bringing bug spray for the evenings.
We stayed at the Mayflower for a week and couldn't have a had a better time. The house is charming and the location is perfect. There are books, games, puzzles to engross yourself in when not enjoying the grill, out door shower, and super close proximity to the beach. Mariellen was very accommodating to us and our dogs. We really loved being able to harvest our own clams at low tide, grill our freshly caught stripers, and walk the conveniently located path behind the houses. The Mayflower is situated in a cozy group of cedar shake homes at the top of a small hill. We could see the ocean, and loved the open air of the sea breeze that lulled us to sleep every night. There were only 2 of us but there was plenty of space for a bigger group to spread out and really enjoy the home itself and the close proximity to P-town, beaches, and restaurants. We really thought very highly of Mariellen, and her efforts to make this home a lot like being in your own retreat. Fully stocked kitchen for entertaining, and plenty of dishes to serve up our sea bounty. We can not wait to return. Thanks again Mariellen for opening your lovely home!

A perfect respite, as always.
This was our fourth year renting the Mayflower cottage from Mariellen, and it was a joy, as always. She is a wonderful and very responsive host, and each year we see new details incorporated into the house to make it even better than before. The Mayflower cottage has wonderful vibes, and being there with our group of friends is pure joy. The screen porch with its incredible view out towards Long Point is the perfect place to sit with a book by yourself, or with a glass of wine and conversation in the afternoon. Multiple sofas in the living room, and the open floor plan mean folks doing dinner prep in the kitchen can still hang out and watch the game or a screening of “Jaws”. The character of this authentic beach house can’t be beat; it doesn’t need any bells or whistles yet the WiFi is fantastic and Alexa will play whatever music you like. The bedrooms are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms spacious and clean. Outdoor seating options abound, in case you tire of the gorgeous view from the screen porch. Oh, and the huge outdoor shower tucked away on the side of the house is ideal after a long day at the beach. We are already counting the days until next year. Thank you, Mariellen!

Cute decor and great location
My husband and I had a great time at the Mayflower Cottage. It had a nice view of the bay that I was able to enjoy from the sunroom on the our last day. (It was a cold and rainy earlier in the week). The location was convenient to the main part of town, the National Beaches and the grocery store. It was fairly quiet the whole week until Saturday. I think the houses around book up a lot more on the weekend. We brought our 2 pups with us, a chihuahua and a miniature pinscher. They liked walking on the beach across the street from the cottage's deeded access point. Watch for low tide. It's a lot of fun to walk far out on the beach that would normally be under water. I found lots of great seashells. Just be careful to check for ticks! Lots of ticks in the woods near the parking of the cottage and in the beach grass across the street at the beach. Also, if you have multiple fur babies, make sure you contact Mariellen when you book. VRBO only allows you to choose yes or no for pets, not the number of pets, but she charges $200 PER pet. So you will still owe for additional pets you bring and will need to arrange payment with her. You will also need to vacuum before you leave in case of pet hair.
The cottage had all of the things we needed to stay for the week. Wifi signal was great. We made breakfast every day with all of the necessary kitchen tools. Mariellen gave us lots of information on places to go, things to do and places to eat. She was always a call or text away if we needed anything. She was a great host. Everything was super clean.
Other Provincetown info: We went whale watching and while I unfortunately got sea sick, we saw several whales including a mama and baby. Definitely worth the trip, just take dramamine just in case. The Truro winery was less than a 10 min drive. They have wine tastings for $10 where you get to try 5 wines and keep the wine glass. Favorite sweet treats were at the Purple Feather on Commercial St. Their gelato is amazing. Favorite restaurant was the Mews on Commercial. Make sure to make a reservation. Food, service and view were outstanding. Bayside Betsy's also had great food and a perfect window seat to the bay.

Old Cape Charm close to Provincetown
Mayflower was a perfect old Cape Cod retreat! The house was impeccably clean and well appointed with everything we needed for our stay. We loved the location which was close to Provincetown yet quiet and secluded with a lovely bay view. Maryellen, the host, was very friendly, very efficient and very hands off after we were settled in. We loved our Mayflower experience!

Mayflower Heights
The Mayflower house was a quiet vacation retreat. The house sits high on a bluff, providing cool breezes and a view of the bay. Although the house had all the amenities we needed, it had a wonderful old fashioned cabin appeal. We began our days with breakfast in the screen porch and ended them with cocktails in the Adirondack chairs. The deeded beach access right across the street was so convenient, as were the buses that took us back and forth to Provincetown. Mariellen was friendly and attentive to everything we needed. Perfect for our family vacation!

Awesome property
First, the owner, Mariellen Serena was great!! She met us at the house, went over everything with us and made sure we knew that if there were any problems (Which there were not) she was available to us 24 hours a day. The property is very quaint. It sits up high on a hill giving us great views out the front porch of the ocean. Beautiful breezes were constant coming through the house. The furnishings were comfortable, we liked the old rustic charm of the decor. While I could go on endlessly I will close by simply saying we will be looking to book this house again in the future. Thanks again Mariellen.

To future guests that may consider the Mayflower House.
Jeff and his group enjoyed their visit as you can tell from their review.
I spoke with Jeff after reading his review and noting the 4 vs 5 stars.
He said he did in fact mean to give the house 5 stars.
I contacted Homeaway to ask them how Jeff could edit his review to show 5 stars. Homeaway said that reviews cannot be edited.
This is very unfortunate. Perhaps in the future Homeaway will find a way for guests to modify their reviews.

Fabulous time!
My husband, son and daughter, and two of their friends had an amazing time at Mayflower House. Everything you can imagine was provided for comfort and ease, and every corner had something interesting and fun to enjoy. The beds were comfy and even tho it was chilly at night we had lots of warm blankets to stay warm. There was ample room to relax. The small kitchen was well equipped and though we ate out a lot we also cooked some meals. The views were gorgeous and the location just outside town made it quiet and private. It was a short 5 min drive to all the pleasures of Commercial Street. We will definitely be back next year!

Loved the Mayflower House
Mariellen is a wonderful host and her house was perfect for our get together. Great location with plenty of parking and a very cozy and comfortable house for six people. Kitchen was well-stocked with all the cooking utensils necessary to cook meals. Comfortable beds upstairs, which as nice since it was rather cool at night. Oh yeah, high-speed Internet connection was a plus! Highly recommended.

Adorable with ocean breezes and views!
Mariellen was very welcoming and reachable. We had one minor issue, but she was quick to respond! The house itself was adorable and has great views of the bay from the front two bedrooms. The screened in porch and out door areas were perfect for relaxing, reading, or doing yoga. There were 6 of that stayed and we each enjoyed our time and the location. The Marilyn Monroe garage was a perfect landmark for cabs, new friends, or knowing where to jump off the shuttle. I would definitely consider staying at this location again.
