About this property

Spacious Private Country House - king beds - extensive parking

Built in 1905, Castleroddy House has been the heart of the McSwiggan family for generations. Its current owners, Sean and Nuala Quinn, inherited the property from Sean’s uncle, Patrick McSwiggan, in 2015. Recognising that this unique heritage deserved to be shared, they opened their doors to guests, offering this hidden gem as a place to stay and experience.

The McSwiggan family has lived and farmed on the lands of Castleroddy since the 1700s. Their deep roots in the area run so strong that they were able to donate land for the construction of Castleroddy National School, which opened its doors to pupils in 1832. The school educated local children until 1959, when it returned to the McSwiggan family’s care. It has been lovingly maintained ever since.

The old schoolhouse still stands today. Located just across the road from Castleroddy House beside the bridge, it offers a rare opportunity to step back in time and imagine daily life in the 1800s. It’s a small but powerful window into the past, and well worth a visit during your stay.

While Castleroddy House is steeped in history, it also offers the comfort and convenience of modern living. With all the facilities you’d expect today—including a dedicated workspace with Wi‑Fi connectivity—it blends heritage charm with contemporary comfort.

Castleroddy is a truly magical place, shaped by centuries of family, farming, and community. We hope the warmth of all those generations helps you feel right at home.

The pictures and description of the property were very accurate. The hosts (Sean and Nuala) were very responsive and helpful the entire time. Checking in was easy and as described there is plenty of parking including right next to the front door. The location is very close to the Gortin Glen Forest Park which has many trails and is just an outstandingly beautiful area. One of the Thomas Dambo trolls is located there and you can actually see it from the kitchen window!

We greatly enjoyed the home with the variety of rooms with couches and dining table near the old stove and the clean colors throughout. It was very comfortable. Driving in when some of the road is single lane was not a problem. Going slow on curves and being prepared just in case a car is coming the other way allowed us to enjoy the fields and scenery. It was very rare to meet another car and there were plenty of turnout spaces to carefully go by each other.Hearing the cows every so often and seeing them in the field was a delight. Looking at the former schoolhouse and hearing the nearby stream was wonderful. Our biggest challenge was figuring out that the strings in the bathrooms were to turn on the lights and fan, etc. This is a great place to stay for a family as well as a couple. The "yard" is fenced in would be a good place to bounce a ball or rollerskate. The hosts were extremely prompt in their responses to our questions. We would highly recommend this home as a place to stay as you explore the Omagh area.
