We are big fans of the "under promise, over deliver" mentality. Therefore, you will find no stretched pictures in this listing (i.e. no square refrigerator or oddly rectangular oven to make the kitchen look bigger than it actually is), what you see is - at least - what you get.

Our beautiful home is located in South Nags Head, NC 27959 - mile post 21 - just north of the national seashore and near the Oregon Inlet where the great fishing spots are. It is a Grateful Dead themed house and is a perfect place for those who want to escape the crowded northern beaches to be in a more relaxed carefree area without having to drive an extra hour to Avon or Salvo, plus the beaches are dog friendly in Nags Head (at some of the other beaches, no dogs are allowed on the beach during the day in the summer). Further, linens are included (just bring beach towels) and there is a beach kayak for you to use at your own risk. A hot tub was added to the front deck in 2025 so you can watch the beautiful sunsets while relaxing with the jets and a private pool is available starting in the 2026 rental season.

About Stella Blue OBX:
The home offers 4 bedrooms (2 with king beds, 1 with a queen bed, and another with a trundle - full over twin). All rooms have either a sound and/or beach view).

There are 2 large bathrooms inside (one bathroom has both a shower and a tub) and there is also an outdoor shower. The beds are very comfortable and there are TVs in every room with a Roku that offers Spectrum Cable and Disney Plus via Wi-Fi.

Other Features:
The kitchen has a wet bar (a second sink with a drink refrigerator underneath). It is large, open, and is fully stocked (wine keys, oyster knives, Kitchenaid stand mixer, Vitamix blender, Cephalon and Hexclad pots and pans, electric knife sharpener, coffee bean grinder, french press, automatic coffee pot with Keurig option, Nespresso Virtuo Pop machine, and all the other stuff you'd expect).

The house has gorgeous tile and hardwood on the main floor and carpet on and upstairs; the entire home was renovated in 2017 and we continuously improve/reinvest into our home every year.

We are non-smokers with extremely firm rules to not smoke OR VAPE inside the house. Not only do we rent our home through VRBO, this is our personal vacation home - we're very lucky to only live a few hours away so we are able to visit the house regularly (usually between renters) to ensure sure this house stays up to our high standards.

Other extras include a pool, hot tub, vintage video game table (with games like Dig Dug, Pacman, and Donkey Kong), board games, 9 holes of outdoor putt putt, an outdoor pool table as well as a fenced in dog yard so there is something here for everyone whether people or pups!

Enjoyed everything about it!

This house was perfect for our family of six adults. Plenty of space inside and outside, incredibly well stocked kitchen, fenced area was great for our dogs, easy walk to the beach with everything we needed (chairs, boogie boards, wagon, etc), quiet neighborhood. I could go on and on! Tiffany was super nice to work with! Highly recommend this property!

Family vacation

This house was so much fun! Very close walk to beach. And, while it was nice to be in Nags Head for grocery, golf, restaurants, there are less houses in this area so it’s not crowded at all. And very dog friendly. The mini golf was really clever and fun! Plenty of room! Great kitchen!

Wonderfully quaint house that has everything one could need to have a fun vacation. The kitchen is stocked with every cooking appliance and cookware needed, there are plenty of fun games and things to do for the kids, including a putt-putt course on the main level and the bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds. The owner is super responsive and friendly! It's at a great location by being only a block away from a beach that has plenty of room and has a fraction of the people that one would see at in VA Beach or Ocean City. We highly recommend this house!

Great place

We had a wonderful time at Stella Blue. Great location, easy beach access and a great house. The only drawback is the amount of palmetto bugs/roaches that show up at night in the house kinda freaked me out. Also nobody seemed to clean up after their dogs in the dog area. My husband ended up cleaning it up bc there was so much dog poop in the yard.

A dear friend is a lifelong Grateful Dead fan. So, we decided to surprise him with Stella Blue. While he was thrilled, so too was everyone else. We had many delicious meals together and lots of time on the beach. One person went on a deep sea fishing trip, and we all ate sushi and wasabi. Stella Blue is beautifully provisioned. It was cozy and playful. We are so grateful for the experience.

Best house we’ve ever stayed at in Outer Banks

So cozy! But cozy in a comfy way not meaning small at all. The open floor plan was terrific. All of the beds and linens were very comfortable. Everything was super logically stored and super well thought out. We have a family lake house that we are getting ready to add onto for our expanding crew and I got some really smart user friendly ideas from the whole set up of their lovely home. We really enjoyed every inch of the house from the putt putt under the house to the multiple family friendly screened in porch areas. And the location! So close to the beautiful never over crowded beach! Plenty of seating and kitchen stuff. If you don’t want to go out to eat you are going to find everything you could possibly need in this house and more! The fenced in yard was money for our dogs. And with their cool sliding door access to the festive yet practical area under the house I always felt like they were safe. So many things that are clearly there for their own family of varied ages that they share with their summer guests!!This year we were an all adult crew but our daughter is 8 months pregnant so we were checking out all of the things they have to offer a familywith babies and young children and they had it all and then some. They even had a very nice mattress to put inside the pack and play bed to make things more cozy for a baby to sleep on. I am sure I left off several really cool things that we all loved about the Stella Blue but that’s bc there are to many to keep track of!

Nice house in good location

Cool Grateful Dead decor, nice stereo, good location between beach road and quiet street. Putt-putt, pool table, and cornhole under the house provide for fun, especially if you get bad weather for the beach. Roomy, and well-stocked kitchen. Perfect for our family, although one more bathroom would be a nice touch.

This is the best beach house we have ever rented, and we have been coming to the Outer Banks for decades! Sparkling clean, beautiful decor, wide and uncrowded beach, dog friendly, and so much fun. Our entire family enjoyed the mini golf and pool table in the evenings with festive lighting and music. Our dogs loved the fenced in area to enjoy the outdoors. We just can’t say enough about the owners and their attention to every detail! Highly recommend Stella Blue for a perfect summer getaway.

Nags Head Awesomeness

We were thoroughly delighted with Stella Blue. It had everything we needed, plenty of room, and some very cool touches. The kids loved the psychedelic swirly lights!! The putt-putt course under the house was cleverly made, fun, and quite challenging, with the extra bonus of the cornhole game built in. The screened porch was a lovely place to hang out. The location was so nice for us to ride bikes, as there was very little traffic, and what traffic there was, travelled carefully and slowly. Getting to the beach was an easy short walk, the little bridge to get across was cool. We loved watching for the tiny fish on our way there. Tiffany was very responsive to our questions and made sure everything was pleasant. It was a wonderful vacation, we all enjoyed it immensely!

We had the best time at Stella Blue. The kitchen is huge and well stocked. Lots of baby supplies including full size crib and a chair. This was so helpful since we had our grand baby with us. This vacation house was amazing. Super short walk to the beach and numerous things to do when you get back including a pool table and mini golf. The kitchen is fully equipped and everything you could possibly need is there for you and organized. Tons of outdoor space to relax. Can’t wait to stay again!

Once again, Stella Blue was the perfect choice for our OBX vacation with friends and pups! We LOVE this property!! The dogs can run and play while we relax and we don't have to worry about them because everything is so secure with fencing! A short walk to the beach, a quiet neighborhood and all the comforts & necessities a home should have. We love the pool table, putt putt course and arcade game too!! This house was FUN! It’s a Grateful Dead themed house that is super dog friendly! Our family dog had an amazing time and we were not worried about her with the dog yard. There is a wonderful sidewalk to walk your pets here as well. The master bed is amazing! Comfy with 5 stars. There are 2 showers in the master bed which was helpful. The shower outside - the Box of Rain - was clean and refreshing. There were extra chairs & umbrellas there if we needed. The most amazing thing was how well stocked the kitchen was. If you’re at the beach & want to cook. We found everything we needed & we cooked all our meals. The charcoal grill came with a chimney starter which was extremely thoughtful! We would stay here again & again! Thanks for being such amazing hosts!

Fantastic vacation

We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stella Blue. Everything we needed was on site and the icing on the cake was the under house play area! We had a sick baby part of the trip but enjoyed hanging at the house playing all of the games.

Can’t say enough good things about this home. It literally has everything! Nothing extra was needed in the kitchen and linens and towels were also provided. We had a blast downstairs with the corn hole and putt put! And thank you for the stereo ability outside. As described, the walk to the beach is very short. The family wants to book again next year! We love Stella Blue!

Stella Blue is everything a family needs to have a relaxing yet fun-paced week in the Outer Banks. The location is excellent for enjoying time on a beautiful stretch of beach. The house extras like the 9 hole mini-golf, pool table and game center keep the young and old entertained for days. The property is well-maintained and the owners are readily available for any questions or needs. We love this place!

We LOVE Stella Blue and are already planning our next stay!! The outdoor set up was perfect for allowing the dogs to roam, play and then pant after a day at the beach, which is a short walk across the quiet street! A great place to stay

This house was absolutely wonderful, the owners has designed a space that is entertaining and feels like home. It’s full of quirky details and beautifully decorated. It had everything we needed and was conveniently located to the beach, which was a very short walk away. My 3 year old and I absolutely loved having fun with the putt-putt course. The owner is so nice and responsive, this house exceeded expectations for me and my family. I look forward to staying here again.

Spectacular!

Everything was so thoughtfully curated, labeled, and organized that we could relax into vacation immediately. I loved the theme, the location, and the amenities. Main floor and 2nd floor masters were perfect for our group of 8, and everything was spacious, clean, and lovely. Pics do not do lighting justice, but everything in (and under) house was in fantastic condition in sun-drenched happiness. We played a TON of putt-putt, cornhole, and pool — almost as much as when we thought we’d be there during pandemic lockdown. Check-in and -out were a breeze, and the owner was incredibly responsive, helpful, and wonderful. I hope to be back next summer.

Amazing location and nice house

As advertised. Location - perfect. A 2 minutes walk to the beach and loved the back little walk across deck to get to the beach quickly. Amenities - The Mini Golf and Video game table were so much fun for the kids and adults. Everything you need for the beach is at the house (chairs, toys, etc...) Kitchen - Well stocked with all you need. We cooked every night. Rooms - Spacious and beds were comfortable Bathroom - Clean and working well It was funny the kids were not to aware of the Grateful Dead but after this trip they have a new found respect for them. Amazing stay and phenomenal owner communication!

We were so impressed with this property! Everything was exactly as described if not better. The owner went out of her way in communications, answering all of my questions both before and after our stay and even bringing a wagon to the house for us! The house was very clean and as described; kitchen was super well-stocked, and the walk to the beach was less than five minutes max, even with kids and dogs. Outdoor shower and hose were great, and the putt putt course AT the house was amazing. Would definitely stay again!

We bought the house after renting houses every year in the Outer Banks and wishing we could stay longer every time we had to leave. We found Stella Blue in the worst of worst conditions and fell in love. It was 90% gutted and perfect. We were able to pick out all new flooring, appliances, furniture, siding, and almost everything else. We were able to do most of the work ourselves, allowing us to invest the highest quality materials into our house while being confident that no corners were cut.

Through our renovations, our aim was to not only make this a home away from home for us but also for anyone who rents our house. There is a great sound system with speakers inside and out that has Sirius/XM radio, TVs in the bedroom are large for each room with Spectrum cable, the beds are incredibly comfortable. There is also a lot to do here other than relax on the beach, which may be enough for some. There is a single person kayak, a 10 hole putt-putt course under the house with golf clubs and balls, a vintage arcade table inside, a pool table, a pool, aa hot tub, and everything a cook should need in our kitchen. We’re excited to share our home with you!

Why they chose this property

South Nags Head is absolutely beautiful! We are surrounded by the National Seashore (steps to our south once on the beach and it serves as a buffer between the sound and homes). This means the beaches are far less crowded while still not being too far from the amenities associated with being further north. Additionally, the best seafood around is almost all brought in through Oregon Inlet and can easily be purchased to cook at home right over in Wanchese (visible across the sound from our top deck but a pretty short drive away for AMAZING year-round seafood). Further, Manteo is a short drive, just north or Wanchese, and offers many fun family friendly attractions like events at Roanoke Island Festival Park, a stroll through Elizabethan Garden or the Aquarium, and great food in a downtown style setting.
South Nags Head truly feels like the best of all worlds in the Outer Banks and we hope that you feel the same.
