Such a pleasure to Host you and your guests. We look forward to welcoming you back when spring flowers appear.
Lovely home! We stayed for a weekend as our daughter was getting married and wanted a place to stay that would make accommodate our gang! It was comfortable and plenty of room for the girls to get ready for the wedding. The decor was beautiful, as you can the chandelier in the dinning room. The owner was very communicative, answered all my crazy messages even though she was in Paris!!! This was conveniant to everything. I definitely recommend!!!

We were so happy to host you and the chandelier in the dining room was imported from Spain. The arms are solid Crystal. I’m so glad you enjoyed that and what looks like brass is actually gold plated so it has retained its beauty over the years.
More importantly, I was happy to answer all of your questions as your enthusiasm was off the chart positive
Check in was easy. Beds were comfortable. It was warm and humid for our July stay, so a/c struggled to keep 3rd floor cool, but we only used one room on that floor and with bedroom door closed, it was cool. All other areas were cool and comfortable. It was very neat to stay in an older home like this. Brought back lots of memories. We would stay here again!

So happy to host you and your friends. Every bedroom has an ac unit so that each guest can choose their own comfort level with temp. Glad you kept the two doors pulled towards each other just outside the dining room - it does keep the ac unit working better for the living room and dining room area. Glad you were able to keep cool in what’s known as our “dog days of summer”. We would be delighted to have you return.
Beautiful, clean and well maintained home. Great communication with owner!

So honored to meet your friends who stayed. Thankyou for booking and staying at our Painted Lady Victorian in Lakewood, Oh -
We are always upgrading using funds from these stays and all the while keeping the original 1900 architectural elements. We hope to see you in Spring and Summer when our gardens are abloom.
Thanks for saying our beds were comfortable and that your 96 your old dad enjoyed the home too. We were glad we also had the hospital grade shower chair for him. We loved the fun photo you sent us of everyone in the front gardens. Come back soon.
Recently stayed here when we were in town to celebrate our engagement party. I am from the area and knew it was a great location to be in. The house is beautiful and filled with cool antiques. Susan was very friendly and responsive. The backyard and patio were a huge plus! Definitely recommend staying here.
Working with the owner was awesome.
I would stay there again.

The absolute most wonderful guests ever. Even left a tip for our housekeeper and scratch off lotto tickets. Just cant thank them enough for leaving the house in amazing shape and being so personable and real. Come back to the Lakewood Magical Victorian soon.
Very spacious house with unique decor that adults and older children will appreciate. Beds were comfy and each room had A/C.
Susan was a great hostess that let us know about places very close by such as Lakewood Park, a must see. Nice neighborhood and centrally located to museums, beaches, restaurants, markets.

Great location, very nice and helpful owner, terrible condition of the house and yard. One bathroom was usable but has a jury rigged shower. Basement bathroom was a hard pass. The half bath is outside of the house, through the kitchen door with no AC. Wiring was scary and likely not up to code. Worst of all, the house stinks like mold and dirt and rot.

Owner Response:
We’re sorry this guest didn’t find our home to their taste — though we have to admit, we were a bit surprised, as no concerns were ever shared during their stay. Everything here is clean, well cared for, and fully up to code — there’s no mold, mildew, or “jury-rigged” anything. The first floor half bath is in the mudroom which is attached to the kitchen and definitely not outside the house.
The summer drought had taken a toll on our flowers in the yard but were refreshed as we normally do but just after this guests stay. New mulch and the whole shebang.
Our home does have a bit of historic character — the kind that travelers looking for authenticity tend to adore. It sounds like this guest might have been hoping for the Ritz but chose our place for its unbeatable location just four minutes from the Clifton Club — rather than a 40-minute round-trip to the nearest hotel.
We take great pride in offering a comfortable, welcoming family home with personality and heart. The house is 125 years young but we are always freshening without destroying the Victorian nature. We invite future guests to read our many wonderful reviews that reflect the true experience — cozy charm, a friendly host, and the best location in town.
We are always taking on new projects with the house and the laundry room and it’s full bath just received a new counter and all new paint. And even a new layer of concrete. The cast iron claw foot tub also received a new color to blend with the decor. We always endeavor to preserve the Historic charm while making positive upgrades.
Charming house near a ton of local bars restaurants
We stayed here (4 adults) for a family get away. The charming house was built in 1900 and has been kept up well. Susan is a great communicator and made sure we were comfortable and happy. There are so many bars and restaurants within walking distance. Beds were comfortable and the overall feel of the place was really nice.

Totally enjoyed hosting all of you for your guys weekend of fishing and golf. Really great to witness men with years and years of friendship getting together for r and r. Life is too short. Glad you know how to celebrate it.
We came to town for a wedding in Lakewood. This house was super easy to get to everything we needed - including the wedding, Lake Erie, shopping, and some activities to keep the teens entertained.
The house is super clean and still has the fun quirks of an old Victorian.
Susan is easily the most easily accessible and gracious host I’ve ever had the privilege of renting from.

Thankyou for staying! We so enjoyed you and your family. Our housekeeper loves hearing that she's doing a great job!
Plenty of room! Air conditioners kept living room and bedrooms comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed. Extremely creaky stairs in this 130-year-old house — no one is going to climb them in the night without being heard!
Staying at the Lakewood Magical Victorian was like stepping into a world where elegance, history, and enchantment all coexist under one roof. When we read that this house was built in 1900 and lovingly preserved, we couldn’t wait to stay. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the sparkle of a gorgeous crystal chandelier, casting rainbows over an eclectic collection of antiques. The home while Victorian at heart, was thoughtfully modernized to make everything feel inviting and livable. Our favorite was the red room, wrapped in authentic wallpaper, where the antique brass bed invited us to sleep like Victorian nobility. We half expected to wake up and find ourselves in a Dickens novel, lol.We were also charmed by the third floor, with its soaring ceilings and skylights—a bright, airy escape that feels more modern, yet still in tune with the home’s soul. And then there’s the laundry room, home to the second full bath and a cast-iron clawfoot tub. This isn’t just a house—it’s an experience, and a love letter to a bygone era with modern comfort and a touch of theatrical flair. Also thank you for tipping us off on that amazing Chocolatier on Detroit Ave. We can’t wait to return.

Big old home in great location, but in need of some care
Lot of potential with location, character of old home and size, but some definite shortcomings. Major problem is bathroom situation, neither bathroom is senior friendly with need to step into tall tub without any handles. Basement bathroom is really poor condition, need to spend some money and upgrade! Lastly needs a deep clean…

I honestly am not sure where to begin with this. Don't people look at the pictures when they're booking a Victorian home and see the clawfoot bathtubs? At no point did this guest let me know if he had any issues with someone that was a senior with mobility issues since he was a senior himself.. our main bath has a new $2600 slipper tub and that was before the installation price with platinum feet. It also has a new toilet, granite sink, and designer tile floor. We specifically keep a Medical shower chair in the closet of the room right next door in case someone does need a little extra assistance and it has a handle. There is also a granite sink right next to the tub that most people could hold onto to get in and out. had he mentioned that there was a mobility issue for anyone during the multiple times that we spoke and texted I could have offered the Victorian unit next-door, with a walk in shower.
The basement bathroom is an original clawfoot tub. It's cast-iron with a shower over it and a lovely shower head with multiple functions. We keep spa steps next to the tub so that children and seniors can easily slide in and out of the tub. There is also a sink next to it to hold onto if you prefer to get in and out that way. I think it's quite unfair to complain after leaving without giving a host an opportunity to assist. They had lots of friends, visiting, and spending time enjoying themselves on the front porch and the back deck. Whenever I would text and ask how things are going. I heard "everything was going well." We specifically ask all of our renters to let us know on check in if there is any cleaning that got missed and not once did he say that there was an area that needed even a little of attention. I don't know what some folks are really expecting ....this house is cleaned twice a week it receives at least 10 hours of cleaning. It's 3500 ft.² we don't skimp on the cleaning and the same cleaner cleans two other houses and we don't get any complaints about that cleaning, so please future guests if there is something that is Not up to your standards Please reach out to your host and let us know so that we CAN do something about it right away and not two weeks after you leave. We are always in the process of upgrading our 123 yr old house and sometimes we have to wait for experts to be available. Ever since Covid the world has had to wait a while to get someone who can do a really good restoration.
For what we charge and the amount of space and amenities I don't think we provide a lovely space. Our housekeepers even go over the day before or the day of someone arriving just to make sure nothing got missed. Any future guest that wants to see snapshots of this man's texts and what his friends wrote in the guestbook, which was lovely, you will see that this was an undeserved low rating.
This charming home was perfect for our stay in Lakewood. Our hosts made a few recommendations of places to visit, which proved to be perfect!
We encountered one slight problem, but it was resolved very quickly. The home was decorated in a style that complimented the age and history of the house.
On the practical side, the AC worked great and all appliances were in good working order. On the fun-vacation side, both the front porch and the back porch were comfortable and a great place to sip our morning tea and raise a glass of wine in the evening.
Our group of ladies, several of us of a "certain age" had no issues with the furnishings, tub or stairs.
Please be aware, the house is over 120 years old, and is a bit creaky, but it has its own energy!
We would return to this property again if we come back to Cleveland.

Not what expected.
The house could be charming. But the dilapidated bathrooms fixed and uncleanliness are hard to overlook. Tiles taped to the wall in the upstairs bath and a basement bathroom that was dirty are not charming or trendy features. The kitchen was unorganized and the towel closet on the second floor looked like everything was just stuffed in. I do not recommend this home. For the cost, I expected much more.
Would def return as my friends loved the furnishings. Super clean. The 2 claw foot tubs each with a shower over them were great. Having that extra half bath on the 1st floor was a bonus. One of our friends had recent knee surgery & the host already had a shower chair as well as sturdy stairs next to the cast iron tub to be able to maneuver. Great water pressure. Accommodating host. I personally enjoyed the tall ceilings with skylights in my 3rd Fl bedroom. We had enough room to all stretch out. Window AC units worked great. Beaches on Lake Erie are nearby. I'm a workout buff and the Lakewood Y is a new building with top of the line equipment & an Olympic Pool only 7 min walk away. Listened to the host suggestions and saw a Great Lake Erie Sunset from Lakewood Parks Solstice Steps. As a hosp administrator I felt Uber comfortable & appreciative of modern touches like usb ports for cell phones. We were pleasantly surprised that the antique Jacobean dining table leaves easily expanded to accommodate our fun potluck dinner. Will return in the fall to see the fall leaves in the Metroparks along Rocky River.

Thank you so much for staying with your friends my neighbors enjoyed meeting you as well. We look forward to having you back again. Your one friend was so adorable in the way she fell in love with our quaint half bath on the first floor. The original owners the Hungers who bought the house in 1902 put that in for their mother-in-law and we've always been so grateful they did. The family lived there until 1957 and their granddaughter lived to be 98 years old and passed away in 2017. We so enjoyed talking to her and hearing stories about the house and her playing there when she was a little girl. On one side of the house, we still have the original hedges that her father put in and a lilac tree that her mother planted. It's still blooms every spring after all these years.
