Beautiful beach...remote and dirty

Playa Tesoro is truly a remote location with a beautiful beach. People who are thinking of staying there need to be well prepared for there stay. The road in is not in the best shape (although upgrades are being done), so going for supplies is a journey. Unfortunately, upon our arrival our home was not in great shape. I had to clean the fridge before I could put my groceries away. Also, the bathroom was not cleaned nor was the floor swept. At no time during our stay (1 week), did anyone come to change the sheet or bring clean towels, I had to do that myself. In general we were very upset about the overall cleanliness of the place. As we were a day early, Geoff said we could use the private pool next door, but on inspection of it there was no way we would go in. It was filthy. Then there was the bat issue in the roof, kept us up for several nights, and droppings all over the floors. In our opinion Playa Tesoro is very poorly managed. With proper management we think this could be a good destination.

Amazing beach!

The beach is amazing! A little too secluded at our taste and definitively need a 4x4 to get there but the raod is well indicated. We had a great time at the beach and the commompn pool. The management was little confused with their booking schedule.. we ends up staying two nights instead of three originally planned. The advertising says it’s a new home but actually the orange house was used in the past as the common house (restaurant) and the clean up / fixes were not properly done so it was dirty and the kitchen was veru used... there was a frog family leaving in the toilet tank.. we advise the staff and they did not know if they were poison and were suppose to come remove them but never showed up... The restaurant and common pool is well organised and was nice chilling out. The food was correct, the jalapeño chicken was delicious but all the rest we have tasted was ok and a little small for price... pass by the grocery store in Leon before heading there as there is not much other amenities. We enjoyed our two days and would be back for the beach! On the road there were salt field that was a great plus to our playa Tesoro adventure!

Outdoor oriented brothers whom set off in 2004 to find a good surf break on a quality beach to build a nice surf shack. And thus avoid the North America winter. After a furious search, we settled at this beach in Nicaragua and named it Playa Tesoro. After 14 years work, we have a best in country, fully private fresh water system. And an electrical system that works well with private ownership of all the equipment. In Canada, we have over 32 years as business partners in construction. Come see this awesome 3 kilometers of Pacific beach spread over 198 acres, in the friendly country of Nicaragua.

Why they chose this property

Playa Tesoro is a great swim beach with warm, shallow, safe waters. You have 7 miles of beach all to yourself. All sand, no rocks, no garbage, no people, no logs. Just turtles, birds, fish. And a few well built Tesoro homes.

Nicaragua is a great country full of wonderful people: this is a very peaceful, secure, beautiful place. Leon city is the university town of Nicaragua with 11 universities, many language schools, good music and strong arts community. Also, the second oldest town in all the Americas behind Panama city, so there is amazing architecture. The people are warm, peaceful and kind. In summary, Leon is a safe, intelligent, artistic, friendly community that is welcoming and interesting. Leon state and area has a vast array of intriguing places to visit and enjoy on day trips as well.

What makes this property unique

Even in Nicaragua, this property is unique because it is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and a 24 mile fresh water river in the back. Playa Tesoro is the ultimate swim beach as it is all sand, gentle waves and warm water. The river is absolutely pristine, with absolutely no person on it. No garbage, no bottles, nothing but fish and birds. The beach is 7 miles long and we ride dirt bikes from one end to the other at sunset seeing nobody, just turtles. Yet, the second largest city in Nicaragua is a mere 45 minutes away.

Playa Tesoro is 45 minutes from the second largest city in Nicaragua, called Leon. Leon is a 500 year old architectural jewel in the rough. Leon has an amazing array of 400 year old mud/straw homes, 14 churches and 11 universities. Leon has a lively arts community. Our beach and beach accommodation is the best in Leon.
