Perfect as a romantic getaway for two people, it’s located between Sherborne (6.5 miles), where you’ll find a historic abbey, two castles, a golf course and some fabulous boutique shops, and the county town of Dorchester (14 miles), home to shops, restaurants, museums and an array of interesting sites, including Iron-age hill forts, a Roman town house and author Thomas Hardy’s former home. Explore the local countryside on foot, perhaps dropping into a village pub for lunch, and marvel at the Cerne Abbas Giant carved into a hillside 7.5 miles away. For a day trip, the National Trust’s Stourhead (23.5 miles) is a Palladian house with a world-famous garden, while the coast – including West Bay, Weymouth and Durdle Door – is reachable within 30 miles.


The inviting retreat is set within the quiet grounds of the owner’s home and is all on one level. Enter straight into the open-plan living space, which has a vaulted ceiling with sturdy, original wooden beams. An L-shaped kitchen fills one corner, including a microwave and a dishwasher for quick cooking and easy cleaning up, and there’s a farmhouse-style dining table for two where you can linger over a morning coffee or a hearty supper. At the far end, the space is carpeted and furnished with soft seating, a wood-burner-effect electric fire and a Smart TV – perfect for snuggling up and enjoying a lazy evening after an active day. The bedroom has plenty of floor space and boasts a super-king-size bed (which can be made up as two singles on request) for dreamy sleep. An en-suite wet room completes this comfortable escape.


Doors from the bedroom lead into a private, enclosed garden which has views across paddocks to verdant countryside. As well as a generous lawn, the outside space includes a furnished patio where you can sit and enjoy the fresh air and clear skies.
