Located in beautiful Portage Point nestled between Lake Michigan and Portage Lake, this six bedroom, two and a half bath home offers the best of all worlds with private Lake Michigan beach frontage and access to beautiful Portage Lake. Recently updated with all new bedding, updates in all bathrooms, new carpet and blinds! Enjoy the glorious sunsets each night from the sun room, the large deck or from a bonfire on your own private beach. Experience the charm and history of this special cottage where families and friends have vacationed for generations. The home provides various spaces for gathering, board games, puzzles, and reading. The fully equipped kitchen has all you need to host large groups, including a dishwasher and two refrigerators. The second-floor master has a king size bed and a stunning view of the big lake. There are three more bedrooms on the second floor, one with a king bed, one with a queen, and one with trundle bed and a full-size bed. Third floor bedrooms include one with a queen bed and one with four twins. Full baths are on floors one and two. Enjoy grilling on the patio and take advantage of the full size outdoor shower for post-lake swims.
CANCELLATION POLICY: from Memorial weekend to Labor Day weekend receive a full refund of your deposit if cancelled 120 or more in advance of arrival. This overrides VRBO's indication of no refund.
The surrounding area boasts watersport rentals, fishing, golf, wineries, berry picking, biking, shopping, hiking, local casino and exploring. For boat owners, there are public boat ramps and weekly slip rentals available. See the Welcome Guest Book for more details. Several championship golf courses within 20 miles including Arcadia Bluffs, Heathlands, Crystal Mountain, Bear Lake County Highlands, Manistee National, Manistee Golf and Country Club, and Pinecroft. Try charter fishing for salmon on Lake Michigan, or fly fishing on miles of pristine trout streams. Fish in Portage Lake for bass, pike, walleye and perch. Walk to the historical Portage Point Inn and Resort for ice cream, summer food truck, local music and nightlife at Lahey’s Pub. Try your hand at the Little River Casino only ten miles away. Visit Iron Fish Distillery! Drive along scenic M 22 to explore Frankfort, Glen Arbor and Manistee. Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes are one hour away.
Though bedding and bath towels are provided, you bring your own beach towels, beach chairs, and beach toys.

The location and views this home offers are outstanding. There is plenty of room and beds in the home as well as a well-stocked kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay and appreciate the clear communication between us and the owners/property manager.

My family of 6 has stayed in this cottage several years in a row now. It is rustic and charming.

The cottage is spacious and has a spectacular view of Lake Michigan. There’s a great sun porch where we eat,play board games and hang out. There’s also a nice outdoor deck for watching sunsets. The beach is literally steps away and very private. The cottage is also a short walk to the public beach and pier and the inn.

Family weekend

We were delighted with the Lake views and private access. The house has so much history, with additions to accommodate current expectations. We brought our own disc golf goal, and found the dune space perfect for an extra activity. Beach walks, cold water swims, table games, sunsets and bonfires with 15 family members sent us home with great memories.

Perfect Getaway!

We had a wonderful time!! The house is beautifully located on the shore of Lake Michigan with easy access to the beach. The home was well appointed with fresh and new towels and bed linens, plenty of beach chairs to enjoy days on the sand and evening sunsets and bonfires at the private dune fire pit! The deck hosted several morning coffee gatherings as well as evening cocktails and sunsets! Thanks for hosting us and we look forward to sharing more memories with you soon!

Great cottage on Lake Michigan

The property was perfect for our family get-together. Beautiful views from every window! Beach on Lake Michigan was great for the whole family, especially the grandkids. Plenty of room indoors so everyone could have some private space, if wanted. The deck outside also had great views and was perfect for coffee in the morning, and beverages in the evening. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the cottage to snyone!

Best of both lakes.

The house is a cottage but comfortably accommodated our large group. The best part is the beautiful location between the two lakes. We spent two afternoons on the beach of Lake Michigan right out of the back door. On the two other days when the wind had a chill we took a short walk down the front drive and spent the afternoon on a public access beach of Portage Lake. The town is smaller but has everything you need including restaurants, light shopping and groceries.

We had a wonderful week! Of course perfect weather made a big difference also! The cottage fit all of our needs. The only negative thing would be the dune that needs to be climbed to get to Lake Michigan but that is well worth it to have the beach mainly to ourselves. It was also great to have Portage Lake so close where we kept our boat. Loved it!

Toes in the Sand

The property is a restored cottage on Lake Michigan to the west and Portage Lake to the East. Our daughter/sister died last year of Covid-19 and this was our first reunion since her burial July, 2020. Everyone had a good time, particularly with the beach on Lake Michigan. My daughter's favorite expression was "toes in the sand" and we were able to do that this week.

This was an amazing weekend. The house while a bit dated worked out perfectly. The home was clean, the location was amazing!!! We had a group of 12 and spent a night on the beach and a night inside as it was fairly cold. Our entire group loved the house and it's location. Jeff was extremely easy to work with and there were no issues at all. Getting there was a slight challenge. They need better directions, go west on 5th, up at the top of the hill with the 3 drives go straight and you will veer off to the right. Good times had by everyone and we had enough space for 5 vehicles, 4 trucks and a car.

Fantastic Getaway

We had a small group of friends travel to Onekama for a bit of an end-of-summer retreat. This was everything we were hoping it would be. We had a lovely nights around the fire pit on the property. The private beach access is convenient and comfortable. The kitchen is outfitted with all the tools you would need to cook various dinners for larger groups. The grill works like a charm; we were able to kick off our stay with a grilled bratwurst feast. The beds are comfortable and the linens are clean. The only inconvenience was a large population of gnats in the kitchen sink area when we arrived. We were able to solve this with some jars of cider vinegar and soap, so the gnats were not an impediment to our enjoyment of the house/kitchen. There was also a slight puddling on the kitchen floor coming from an unidentifiable leak. We were able to quickly contact the host and the problem was addressed immediately. I would certainly recommend this home for a lovely lake getaway. We shared a memorable 4 nights here.
