Downtown Apt.12 w/ Russian Church & Mountain Views

This downtown apartment is located in the heart of downtown Sitka adjacent to St. Michael's Cathedral within minutes of everything you need; shopping, bars, harbors, grocery store, library, hiking trails and Sitka Fine Arts Campus. Across the street visit the Sitka Library or Harrigan Centennial Hall where you can watch the Russian Dancers perform during the summer months, visit the Sitka Historical Museum or attend a performance of the Summer Music Festival.

The apartment is located on the second level of a downtown commercial/residential building. The main floor has a Mexican Pizza Restaurant, a consignment store and an Art & Jewelry Gallery. On the lowest level you will find a Food Co-op and Botanical Beauty Studio. Also, on the lowest level we feature a stunning mural from a local artist. The second level is a combination of long term residential units and vacation rentals. The building is locked in the evenings and accessed with a pass key. The building has an elevator for tenants and guests only and the key is provided after check in.

The building has 2 entries and will be locked in the evenings. The apartment is located on the second level so stairs will be necessary to access the apartment when checking in. An elevator key is provided after check in. Guests have an access key to use when the building is locked.

Bedroom one has a comfortable queen size bed with dresser and a closet. The second bedroom is the largest and has three twin size beds a dresser and closet with a half bathroom attached.

The apartment has everything you need to be comfortable and feel at home. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you would need to prepare a meal, just bring the food. We provide basic spices, coffee and tea. The living room has a view of downtown, St. Michael's Cathedral and a limited view of the Sister's Mountains. There is a smart tv to add your favorite streaming app. And if you need it, wireless internet is available.

Sitka downtown apartment

Great place to stay in Sitka. Location is in the middle of town and within walking distance to just about everything. Apartment has lots of extra pillows, blankets and everything you might need during your stay.

Close to everything!

Great location- able to walk to all of the downtown restaurants and activities. We ended up renting a car- parking was a little tricky a few nights, but overall not an issue. The apartment was great, and having a kitchen helped cut down on meals out. I appreciated the coffee and tea provided!

Great All Around Apt.

This is a perfect location, lots of room for 5 people, appreciate having 2 bathrooms, love being able to cook & appreciate having some staples, glad to leave some items in the kitchen for the next guests, thank you for having the fans available, very comfortable living room area. Fun Location

Sitka is impressive for its views, history everywhere, and incredibly friendly people. This apartment is in the middle of the action. You look out at either all of the CruiseShip visitors (which is entertaining) or the Russian Orthodox Church with the mountains as a backdrop. Plenty of room in the apartment and everything you need...and if you do need something, the owners/managers are close and reactive.

Great location and apartment, very responsive host

We were in town for a high school baseball tournament. Excellent location - easy walking distance to restaurants and shops (and a coffee shop right downstairs) in the main tourist area. The apartment was well-appointed and very clean. We accidentally left a pair of glasses behind after checking out - the owner called me within minutes of my messaging her and was very helpful. Highly recommend!

Great location, comfortable

Great location, easy check in and out. Clean, comfortable, everything as described. The owner was super quick to reply to any texts. The only issue is there are doors in both bedrooms that access the outside apartment hallway, and you can hear through them very easily. We were woken up sat night by an altercation down the hallway at another apartment, and can hear people coming and going to their apartments pretty easily. Not a big deal but I am a light sleeper so I was awoken most nights and mornings by noise.

This is a wonderful apartment, very clean and convenient. The hosts were happy to accommodate our request for an early check-in. It had everything we needed, including a number of pantry and refrigerator items such as coffee, sugar, spices, mustard and mayo, etc. I found the bed to be comfortable. Sitka is very walkable, and having an elevator to the 2nd floor where the apartment is located was very nice at the end of a long day. There's a coin operated laundromat that is for the apartments and seemed clean and nice. Here were a few "quirks" about the apartment: There is only one large double window in the living room - no others. The bedrooms both have doors that lead to an outside hallway as they don't have windows. The stove is very old and functions, but the indicator dials don't quite work so it's hard to tell if the oven or burners are on. There's no dishwasher so you need to wash dishes, yet the sink stopper doesn't seem to fit the drain so I couldn't figure out how to fill the sink with soap and water - ended up using a large stainless steel pot to wash dishes. The one bathtub is nice but a bit slippery - could maybe use non slip adhesives on the bottom. These are very minor observations, overall the apartment is clean, comfortable, and stocked with lots of books! We were very happy with our stay.

Best Location Ever!

Right in the middle of Sitka! Walkable to about 90% of what we wanted to see and do. Plenty of space for 4 adults, coffee was provided and there were even a few bonus surprises (good ones!) in the fridge, but a word of warning to those from the lower, lower-48. No A/C or ceiling fans, so pack lightweight pjs.

Clean, well-furnished, centrally located apartment

The apartment worked great for our girl’s trip (4 adults). We were in Sitka for 6 nights, 5 at the VRBO. It was a clean, well-stocked, nicely furnished place. We appreciated the soft bath towels, adequately stocked kitchen (coffee provided!) and ample storage in the bedrooms. Having twin beds in the second room rather than a queen was ideal in that we each had our own bed. The half bath located off of this room provided a good set up for us. Being in the heart of the town made visiting sights, shopping and dining out easy and convenient. We enjoyed the view of St. Michael’s from the living area. Wished we could have seen the mountains, but it was cloudy and/or rainy most of our stay. Even with the rental being located in the city center, we had no issues with noise. Since we didn’t rent a car, we either walked or took a taxi to get around. We rode the public bus (blue line) once. It met our needs but wasn’t the most efficient. However, not dealing with parking was nice. We found the people of Sitka to be very welcoming and friendly. Some of our favorite activities: visiting Fortress of the Bear, taking an ATV tour on Kruzof Island, walking through Sitka National Park (totem poles) and attending the Sitka Fine Art Camp’s production of Mamma Mia. Suggestions for property owners/hosts: Add some hooks and towel racks or shelves in the bathroom, hang a mirror near an outlet as there’s no outlet in the half bath that we could find, if possible upgrade the Wi-Fi as it rarely worked, put in a lock box on the first floor to store an elevator key. It was very off-putting to be accused of “bothering” the consignment store staff to access the elevator, which needs a key for entry, when this was not the case at all. My friends (one in a wheelchair) were waiting in the hallway with our luggage while I determined the layout of the second floor. They were approached by a friendly, helpful consignment store employee who offered us assistance. In the future, please seek to understand the situation prior to blaming your guests. Note to readers: I addressed this directly with Katy and would not have included this in my review if I would have received a response acknowledging a misunderstanding had occurred. This did not happen and I do not want future guests to feel the way I did. I’ve not encountered this type of interaction with prior vacation rental bookings. The good news is it was the complete opposite of our experiences with the residents of Sitka.

Perfect downtown location

The property is right in the middle of town and super easy to access local amenities. Quite comfortable furniture and a desk so I could work while I was there. Very clean. It is located upstairs in an older office building but perfectly remodeled for our stay.

The place was nice and clean and had a great view of the church. There can be room for improvement (ie rust in the bathtub, and a crack in the window) other small things like that. I would stay there again and would recommend this place as well as the host to anyone going to Sitka.

In short, the value for the money isn't there. The living room is spacious, but the comfort of the furniture is just OK. Two twin beds in one of the bedrooms are below average in comfort. The other beds are more comfortable (7 and 8 out of 10 for comfort) The master bedroom can use more electrical outlets, or better placement of existing outlets. Recharging electronic devices in this room is awkward and somewhat limited. If internet is important to you and you want, or require, wi-fi for your internet connection, choose another apartment in this building. Internet service is NOT available in Room 12. We had to go into the hallway, 20-25 feet from the door to the apartment to receive internet service. To make matters worse, the owners don't seem to care. After an exchange of two text messages in which I tried to explain the problem and request assistance in solving it, I received the following message: "Stopped by [not true]. Internet is working elsewhere. I can't do anything more sorry. Welcome to Sitka." If you wish to do laundry (one of the amenities claimed for this building), bring your own detergent and plenty of quarters. Soap is unavailable, even for purchase, and there is no change machine in the laundry room.
