Balsam Point Lake House A Family-Friendly Winter Base Near Skiing & Snowmobiling

A Family-Friendly Winter Base Near Skiing & Snowmobiling

Balsam Point is a warm, comfortable winter retreat designed for families who want space, convenience, and easy access to Adirondack winter adventures.

Located just minutes from Indian Lake, the house is ideally situated near major ski areas, groomed snowmobile trail systems, and family-friendly winter activities — while still offering privacy, quiet, and room to spread out. After a day on the slopes or trails, it’s the kind of place where everyone can relax, warm up, and settle in together.

Families love the layout and setting: there’s ample parking for multiple vehicles and snowmobile trailers, a plowed driveway, and plenty of room to gear up and down without feeling crowded. Kids can enjoy movie nights, games, and cozy downtime, while adults appreciate the calm, the scenery, and the ease of being close to town when supplies or meals are needed.

Winter days often start with skiing at nearby mountains, snowshoeing through peaceful woods, or heading straight onto the snowmobile trails that run throughout the region. Evenings are for hot meals, shared stories, and quiet moments as snow falls outside and the woods go still.

Balsam Point isn’t a party house — it’s a family place. A spot to reconnect, unplug, and enjoy winter at a comfortable pace. Come prepared for mountain weather, take your time on the roads, and you’ll find a welcoming home that makes winter travel easy and memorable for all ages.

Blue Lake Mt

Enjoyed hiking Castle Rock and Sawyer Mt trails nearby. Visited the Adirondack Experience history Museum on a rainy afternoon. If you enjoy the outdoor it’s a great retreat! We brought plenty of food and enjoyed the charcoal grill every night. Very private and relaxing! Very much enjoyed our stay here!

Awesome place !!!!!

I mean you can`t go wrong, beautiful house, lake in the backyard. Kayaks and boats available, did not have to lug my kayak up. Grill and fire pit for cooking, watching the otters and loons come by regularly. Had the biggest pike of my life on but of course he bit through my line. I ll get him next year, because i m not sure i can find a better place in the Adirondacks for a relaxing trip like this. Think i ll start looking at real estate here :)

About the host

Hosted by Daniel

Host profile image
Daniel and Marjan are a fun-loving couple who truly enjoy the peace and solitude that the Adirondacks and Lake Abanakee offer. Both are artists and college professors, and they find deep inspiration and renewal in the woods, the water, and the ever-changing seasons of this special place.

Our camp has always been a refuge — a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and appreciate the simple abundance that lake and forest life provide. There’s a saying here: “If you’re lucky enough to have a house on the lake, you’re lucky enough.” We feel very fortunate, and we’re grateful to be able to share that good fortune with our guests.

Hosting allows us to open our lakeside retreat to families and travelers who value quiet, nature, and time together. We hope your stay brings you the same sense of relaxation, joy, and renewal that we experience every time we’re here.

Why they chose this property

After years of camping in the great North Woods and swimming in every lake we could find, we began renting cabins throughout the Adirondacks, searching for a place we could truly call our own. After we were married, we discovered Balsam Point — and immediately knew we had found something special.

We’ve spent years shaping this property into a sanctuary where creativity can thrive and everyday life slows down. The setting is peaceful and restorative, with wonderful swimming from our beach and dock in the clear, velvety waters of Lake Abanakee. Nature is always close here, and each season brings its own kind of beauty.

Up here, relaxing is an activity — and we take it seriously. We designed our home and grounds around comfort, ease, and enjoyment, with the hope that guests would feel as welcome and refreshed as we do. In many ways, it’s our own small Shangri-la in the woods, and we’re delighted to share it with others.

What makes this property unique

Balsam Point is a true four-season, family-friendly retreat that combines winter adventure, summer lake life, and a peaceful setting that’s increasingly hard to find in the Adirondacks.
❄️ Exceptional Winter Location
We’re ideally located near some of the best winter recreation in New York. Guests are just minutes from Garnet Hill Lodge, home to nationally recognized cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails. Indian Lake offers 17+ miles of groomed snowmobile trails, with ample room at the house for snowmobile and trailer parking. Whether your group skis, snowshoes, snowmobiles, or simply enjoys quiet snowy walks, this is an excellent winter base.
🌞 Unmatched Summer Lake Life
In warmer months, the property transforms into a classic Adirondack lake retreat. Our home sits in a serene cove on Lake Abanakee, a nine-mile lake adjacent to the larger Indian Lake. The cove is calm and low-traffic—no fast speedboats or jet skis—making it safe and ideal for families with young children and gentle paddlers.
You may see loons gliding past, fish jumping at dusk, and birds and chipmunks playing in the yard.
🏡 Designed for Comfort & Togetherness
The home is a two-story contemporary designed for comfort, gathering, and relaxation:
• Open-concept ground floor
• Chef’s kitchen
• Indoor and outdoor dining for large groups
• Two covered porches
• Fire pit with tiled patio
• Hammocks, grilling, and space to unwind
Inside, you’ll find high-speed internet, hundreds of TV channels, and premium streaming services—perfect for movie nights after a day outdoors.
🌌 Peace, Safety & Night Skies
🚶‍♀️ Close to Everything—Yet Feels Remote
Balsam Point is more than a vacation rental—it’s a safe, spacious, and magical place for families to experience the Adirondacks in every season.
