Istria
Istria (in Croatian, “Istra”) is the biggest Croatian peninsula located in the northern Adriatic. Istria gets its name from the Histri, an Illyrian tribe conquered by the Roman legions in 177 BC. It is an area of rare natural beauty, characterized by its mountains, hills and meadows, rolling vineyards and olive groves, which border the perfectly blue sea.
Istria has an indented coastline with beautiful bays, pebbled beaches, islands and clear waters with sea temperatures averaging between 23 and 24 C (73 and 75 F) in July and August. The Istrian coast offers Mediterranean charm, with its pretty towns beautiful beaches and abundant Mediterranean vegetation. On the western coast you will find resort towns such as Rovinj, Porec , Novigrad, the Lim Fjord – an estuary valley with a canyon-like appearance as well as the Brijuni National Park; a group of fourteen islands famous for their scenic beauty. As you travel inland, the scrubby vegetation and olive groves gradually give way to wooded hills and fertile valleys with stone-built medieval hilltop villages to explore, one of the most attractive being Motovun, located in the middle of truffle territory. Make sure not to miss the art-filled town of Groznjan and Visnjan, a town known for its wine. Other historic towns like Oprtalj and Hum look like leftovers from another century, made of ancient stone poised high above rich green pastures and forests.
Pula
Pula is a three thousand-year-old city in the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula. Its origin is linked to the Argonauts, ancient Greek mythological heroes. Pula evolved along a ramified sea bay, and rests on seven hills whose peaks are crowned with old forts. It is steeped in history with a tradition of hospitality and is a rewarding place to visit. Italian poet and writer Dante Alighieri visited Pula at the beginning of 14th century, while Michelangelo made a drawing of the Sergii Arc during his visit in the 16th century. Irish author James Joyce lived in Pula for a short time teaching English, back in 1904.
The city has some of the finest ancient Roman cultural monuments, which have made it a candidate for the UNESCO list of the world's natural and cultural heritage. The most popular Roman site in Pula is the amphitheater, known as 'Arena' to the locals. Built in 1st century AD it is the 6th biggest in the world. The home of gladiator fights in the past, today it is primarily a setting for various cultural events whilst the museum in its basement holds many exhibits from the Roman period. Other noteworthy Roman sites include the Arch of the Sergii (1st century BC) and the ancient temple dedicated to the first Roman Emperor, Augustus (1st century AD). You can enjoy a wonderful view of the city from the old fortress 'Kastel', which features an amphitheater used for cultural events and open-air film screenings.
Pula also has many galleries, family-friendly restaurants and an eclectic range of shops as well as a rocky coast indented with numerous turquoise bays with pebbled beaches close to the city.
Wining and Dining
Istrian cuisine is varied and rich due to its many influences and Istria has a reputation of being a great culinary destination. An excellent standard of food is served in most modest konobas (taverns) and haute-cuisine restaurants alike. Ingredients are usually first class, locally sourced and organic.
Regional delicacies include appetizers such as Istrian prosciutto (pršut), wild asparagus (šparoga), black truffles (tartufi) and local goat and sheep cheeses. On the coast, you will find premium quality fish and seafood, while inland the focus tends to be more on meat. Popular Istrian meats include kobasice (sausages), ombolo (smoked pork loin) and lamb. These delicious meats are often combined with cabbage or freshly made fuži (pasta twists) and njoki (gnocchi).
Istrian olive oil is produced by regional producers, with a high degree of quality and has a very distinct flavor. Istria also offers quality wines produced all over the peninsula from a variety of grapes including the famous white malvasia, pinot and muscat, the red borgonja, merlot and a characterful indigenous teran.
A typical Istrian spirit is biska, an aphrodisiac mistletoe brandy associated with the region around Buzet and Hum.

It was a very pleasant holiday. Nice location in a rural area apart from most tourists. Even in the main season one had almost a Beach for oneself. The hosts are very nice people and very helpful. I fully recommend this location!
We had an amazing stay in a lovely home. The Pool was very nice and everything was very clean when we arrived. We had a tour of the place where they showed us everything what we might need on a holiday.
The telephone reception in the area wasn't always great but that didn't matter because we were in our own world there.
Everything is in the house available, from airco to cooking supplies.

Thanks for the rating. We look forward when our guests feel good in our house. You are the kind of guests one could only wish for.
The stay at the house was really great. The house was really wonderful for 10 people and zwo dogos. The bathrooms were super equipped, plus the layout of the rooms was great. In the kitchen was everything we could need! The garden with the rosemary and mint smelled wonderful and was a joy to be in. The dogs had Theke Owen Space, there was a fence everywhere. The pool was terrific, we spent many hours there playing various games. Everything was very clean, which was great! We will definitely come back again! Thank you for letting us spend our family vacation there.

Thank you for the wonderful description of your stay with us.
Even I wouldn't have thought to write it all so nicely :)
You were wonderful guests.
Thank you
We've had a wonderfull and perfect holiday in this house. Everything was just great: the house was spacious and cool during the hot says with a lot of space. It is well equiped. The owners did a great job in renovation. Beautifull bathrooms and airconditioned bedrooms. Really erverything you need is present!! The garden. Oh my God. It felt like heaven: plenty of space, Nice flowers, herbs and trees and of course the amazing, clean and big pool! We enjoyed several hours at the poolside. In the evening we fired up the grill and ate local specialities we bought at the market and shops in de city's nearby as there are Pula, Rovinj and Labin.
The villa is located in a nice and quit village. A 5 minutes walk away there is a pizzeria, grocery store and a little bakery.
Last but not least: the hosts: what a nice and lovely couple! They gave us a warm welcome and showed is the house, told us some things to do in the neighbourhood and let us feel very, very welcome!
We have enjoyed every second of our holiday in Istria. It probably was our best holidays ever!!!
We would recommend this property and it's owners!! We give 12 point out of 10!
The owners, Mirjana and Miro, were waiting to welcome us and show us around the house when we arrived in Krnica. The house is very spacious and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. We made good use of every part of it. The large kitchen upstairs had a very useful second fridge.
Our first week was hot so we were grateful for the shady areas around the house - two porches and three balconies gave us room for manoeuvre. The pool was an absolutely perfect size and temperature for us, though a second sunshade beside it would have been nice, because none of us are great sunbathers. The garden area is very attractive with scented plants and flowers and a good area of grass for the children.
The centre of the village is a two minute stroll up the lane where there are a general store, post office and two well-established cafe-bar restaurants. A very good new restaurant, specialising in Istrian food rather than the ubiquitous pizza, opened at the end of our first week. Further afield, we made great use of the rocky shores where swimming and snorkelling in the sea are easily and freely accessible.
Pula is a lovely town with Roman remains and some attractive museums: we particularly enjoyed our visits to the Olive Oil and the MeMo museums. We also made a day trip to Istralandia Water Park about 50 minutes up the motorway, and enjoyed a visit to the old town of Labin.
Our three-generation family really enjoyed a happy two weeks in this lovely former family home.

You were also very kind and good guests.

We try to renew, renovate and improve something in the house every year.

The owners are very nice and kind, the garden is large and well maintained, the pool is very nice. The house is large and clean, nevertheless its bathrooms are a bit old.

You are a group of young people that everyone would be happy to host.
The sea is as far as it gets. And this should not affect the rating of the object.
Vielen lieben Dank!

And you are guests to be desired. Decent, communicative, young and cheerful.
It was a pleasure to host you.
everything was very well arranged and prepared with great hosts

Everything was perfect - lovely garden and pool!
We were three families on holiday together (6 adults and 6 kids). There was plenty of room outside and in. The pool was fantastic. We had problems finding the house, because the GPS send us to a wrong street - We called the owners for directions and after that we found it right away! We felt much welcome, and there was cold drinks in the frige upon our arrival. The town - Krnica - is charming, and there is just a short walk up to the pizzaria, bar and the local store. We would love to come back another time.
