Enhanced Cleaning & Air Purification Oceanviews 4 Houses from The Ocean
We are applying the CDC recommendations on cleaning the home between guests and have installed an air purification system to reduce the pathogens, allergens, particles, and odors in the air creating a healthy environment. It kills viruses, bacteria, and mold. We spent a great deal of time reading feedback and improving this home over the last few months. I have taken back over the management of the house this year. Your safety is our top priority.
This is a great family vacation home! Bring all the kids and pets to this one. Extra bonus sleeping area in the loft area on the futon. The third floor has a master bedroom (queen size bed) and loft area and futon. Second Floor living area opens out to nice deck with a fantastic view. The first level has a master bedroom with a king size bed, 2 large bedrooms each with 2 sets of bunk beds. The house is four houses back from the ocean on a quite dead end road. There is lots of room for parking. PET FRIENDLY HOME

Great beaches, great food and great people ! We had a great week although the cleanliness of the home was lacking and is in need of some repairs. Avon is still our favorite OBX community !
Property is right next to the beach. Couldn’t have asked for a better location. We had our family vacation/reunion here. Owner made check in and out easy. The property is a little dated but very comfortable. We had several issues we expressed at check in and the owner immediately responded and had someone to rectify that day! We had our dog with us and was our first time vacationing with him. It was fantastic. I would definitely stay there again!
The house was a perfect size for all of us (9). There were beach chairs, boogie boards, few sand toys, towels and dishes to use. The walk to the beach was short and easy. The house is dated but still comfortable and homey!
We absolutely adore this beautiful home with all the touches of being at the OBX, verses a more modern home. This home gives you the true feeling of being at OBX. the home owner was super nice, we had to extend our stay and she worked with us on that! She is very kind, and super conciderate. We will be returning, and staying in this home!
The host was wonderful and the check in process was great! The location of the house is awesome and we had a good old family trip full of great memories - we will just likely spend up a little more for a nicer house in the future.
House was great and as advertised, but small things added up to it being a less than great home to stay in. Moldy vent covers, no top sheets on beds, moldy shower curtains, nails sticking up on the deck, tough to use dish washer. I have also seen better amenities as far as kitchen supplies being stocked and clean (Cups, plates, cooking supplies), luckily we do this every year and typically bring any specialty items we need to prepare meals.
We had a very nice experience staying. The weather is cool (~80 degree). The house has big space.
There are some tiny issues such as faucet for cleaning sand should be replaced. The toilet at top floor has water leak unless you push the flapper hard. We tried to use the bunk beds in the beginning but felt safe to use the sofa bed at top floor (the house has 4 bunk beds which can sleep 8 people). We realized till Friday that the Avon city does not collect garbage bags outside the tank, even it's in the bag. The house does not have the tank for recycling materials.

Home unsafe for toddlers
The stairs going up to the third-floor, were unsafe for a toddler. They could have fallen through the spaces. The spindle spacing holding up the railing in the loft were also unsafe ..our toddler could’ve easily fit through them. The bathroom drains were not able to be plugged. None of our children could take a bath. Each bathtub was in need of cosmetic repair .
This home was a great size for our large family and a short walk to the beach. That was the only positives. The home was very dirty. The rugs were gross and one was rolled up next to the fridge. There was no mop to even clean and vacuum was full. You can tell the home is not well maintained. The ceilings are discolored and the bathrooms are pretty bad. The water pressure was Wonder if you put it on horrible. There was trash, clothes and misc items under the beds and furniture as well. The kitchen didn’t have much to cook with and what they did have was rusted or small. The microwave went out the first day there and was not replace until mid week. One of the stove burners went out as well and was not replaced so we had to cook on 3 small burners left. The burner connection melted so we were concerned about fire. We had to buy a grill to cook with until the electrician came to make sure it was safe to use. Outside was not mowed, broken wood on the walkways and trash everywhere. There was no trash can so we got one from across the street. The decks are not safe, very unstable and nails sticking up. The outside faucet was so rusted we had to use our tools to turn it on and off to use. The owner has a great home but just not cared for as it should be. In front of us

Old school beach house, decent ocean view from upper deck
This beach house is no frills but in fair condition. There have been a few updates, but could use a lot more.
House was clean. Linens were well worn, but ample supply. Beds were comfortable. Bath stalls functioned but worn and discolored. Some faucets were replaced but others were squeaky and old - all were functioning. Shower head in masterbath was comical. Some of the floors have been upgraded, others not, like the kitchen floor, which looks original.
Overall, the decor seemed heavy. Dramatic full-length curtains in living room and royal blue walls throughout the main level did not feel airy. The master bath had screaming yellow walls. There is a picture on every. single. wall. Its like the family dumping ground for furniture and pictures. Living furniture was fairly comfortable, except the one brown 'massage' chair that didn't work. You had to have a pillow behind your back to make it tolerable to sit there.
The kitchen supplies were minimal and not great quality. We stayed two weeks and made most of our meals. The only lighting in the kitchen was over the small kitchen table and the surface light above the stovetop. The kitchen is a good size with fairly new cabinets. Cooking without ample light was really frustrating.
We appreciated cleaning supplies left for us. Dishwasher worked fine.
During our stay, hurricane Ian blew through. Heavy rains resulted in leaking sliding glass door on upper level and bunk room window. The maintenance person came by to secure the deck furniture and close all the windows ahead of the storm, which we appreciated. Other than the leaking, the house swaying a bit during wind gusts it remained intact.
The house layout was funky but that's part of the charm of these old houses, they are unique. I liked that part of the main level deck was shaded.
If you don't mind all that stated above, the house was fine. Location was a block from several restaurants and short distance to the beach.
Amazing time with my children and grandchildren I didn’t find the host very approachable but the place was perfect for us a gas grill would have been helpful and extra out trash cans for trash but aside from that I highly recommend and the Avon area was perfect for us
Julia is a wonderful hostess. There were renters before us but seems they decided to to not check out on time; hours after the agreed time which caused a back up in cleaning etc. and they left the house in disarray. Julia let me know this but all worked out well with our arrival. Jim, one of her staff members met me at the house and showed me around. Based on her previous renters and what they left, I think all was handled well by Julia and Jim. I have no complaints.
Great location, great house for family and overall we had a wonderful stay. Would certainly choose this home or any others Julia has again!
This house is everything it promises and so much more. Plenty of space for comfort, easy walk to the beach, beautiful views, and everyone can have their own deck space. Great for those looking to be off the beaten path, yet close enough for day excursions. Wonderful spots to eat and shop are nearby.
A view of the Cape Hatteras Beacon from the top deck is the perfect bonus feature.
My family really enjoyed this house. Layout was great. Rooms were spacious. Great location. Short walk to the beach.
Only issues:
Needs another outside trash can.
One is not enough
Needs more/better water pressure
Would stay here again!!
We were a group of 8 adults (4 couples) and had a great time! There is lots of space to spread out and also have a great spots to hang out as a family. Location was perfect - loved to be further down the Outer Banks with less traffic/people. A short walk down the road, over the sand dunes and you are at the beach! Outdoor shower was great enjoyed by all. The house was very clean upon arrival and amenities were what I would expect in a beach house. I’d stay there again for sure!

Complaints
Several areas in the house were either not functional or not clean. The handle on the kitchen sliding doors was slightly broken, there were yellow stains on the living room couch, the upstairs toilet did not flush, and several shower curtains were ripping and halfway off the shower rack.
Love the settings inside the house and the location was great. There are things need to update like living room sets, the kithen sometime the electric stove won’t work, the bathroom in the masters room was clogged up and the bathroom at the third floor the toilet is draining water and the curtain is ripped. But the most important is enjoyed staying in the house. Thank you!

About the host
Hosted by Julia Taft
I've been a resident of Hatteras Island for over 20 years. I moved here when my son was in 4th grade and he just graduated from college this year. I am an accountant and own a couple other business in Avon. A wonderful thing about living at the beach is that a lot of family comes to visit. I'm sure you will love visiting here as well.
